obviously would be delighted but i cant see it happening with the current squad, would like to see us get a top half finish and build on the squad carefully over the summer a couple quality midfielders would do the trick
Promotion to the Prem is a double edge sword. I hated the last couple of years there before sterile football and an aim of being 10th and a good game agaiunst Man U. I have loved fighting against relegation and getting promotion. However, you can't stand still, but I would like a couple of years in the Championship and then yo yo between the two (Prem and Championship).
I still doubt we can make the top 6 over the season but if Frimpong is as good as i have seen him play before and we get him for the rest of the season, could be the difference between finishing around 10th and that top 6.
I think we're certainly good enough to make the playoffs. When everyone is fit and if we can stay injury free then we're more than capable of making it into the top six.
The team isn't ready for the Premier League but is any club in this division? I'd take going up, coming down and using the parachute money to build an established top flight squad. We've done it before.
This club has some of the best around and having lived through three promotion seasons in my lifetime, I know that if we creep into the top six, our fans will be buzzing and will push us over the line come the end of the season. That's what this club is all about. We're so strong when everyone is behind the club.
Happy in the champ for now thanks. Dislike the premiership, the hysterical sense of achievement you get if you occasionally beat one of the top 6 by a lucky goal and the awareness that this is as good as it is ever going to get - mid table or occasionally even up to number 7. Woohoo! I'd like to live in the moment. This is turning into a briliant season for us. I want to just enjoy it.
As for Frimpong, he's very welcome, but he isnt the bleeding messiah - with our injured players returning and the few we have brought in I think we are going to do nicely for the rest of the season thankyou.
Of course we have a chance. There is no stand out team so far in this league. We are mid table and on a, albeit short, but good run. I honestly think we have a strong squad and a few more good results could give us the momentum to really push on. I predicted 5th at the start of the season and i'm still reasonably confident that we will be there or there abouts.
I'd take promotion to the Premiership in a shot , do i think we'll do it this season ? unlikely but we can all dream a little , amazing what 3 wins in a row does to confidence , hope we can build on it , our home form needs to sharpen up considerably , and we need to be clinical in front of goal.
our squad is looking a lot stronger now. Palace and Millwall been on great runs yet we are only 3 points behind the quick fit fitters and 13pts behind the nigels, nothing to stop us going on a long unbeaten run now,i think we will at least make the playoffs no probs,if we had got the points we deserved this season we would be right up there now,we have had our share of bad luck with injuries others will get there injuries to.we are ready for promotion just look at our ground and i want us to get it,you dont often get a squad together that fights like ours and is all pulling in the same direction as are the fans,Go for it one and all i have a good feeling about this season
Funny how a few good results can change opinions from questioning Powell or talking about relegation to having a strong squad and winning promotion.
We have a chance but need to keep our key players fit. Haynes has made a huge difference but we don't have a real alternative, BWP has struggled to be a threat at this level. Frimpong will hopefully improve the midfield (and add much needed pace and energy).
We needed several signings in the summer so the team could evolve and we're starting to see that - Jackson is no longer playing on the left of midfield and we've improved on the likes of Green, Hollands and BWP. Players we had doubts about like Pritchard and Stephens are competing at this level, the back 5 have stepped up as expected.
If promotion means that we ultimately obtain more financial stability than we now have then yes .doubt that would happen though as most of what we receive would likely as not be taken by the owners,as is their prerogative.then we are subject to further instability in the event of inevitable relegation unless we find a fan to buy the club with deep pockets.seems that we may have struggled to achieve that when we were last taken over albeit in league one.also which players would want to remain ?
Promotion is not on my radar this season. We're simply not good enough. I will be very happy if we can have a tilt at the edge of the playoffs. If money is available strengthen in the summer and ave a right old go next season.
Tricky. You need the thought of success or promotions in sport and it is always the aim so I would be delighted. Have a feeling though that ticket pricing would soar to an unaffordable level for me and starting a season aiming for 4th bottom gets boring quickly.
I can understand why some fans prefer this league but i can't get past how you can not want to see the club playing at the highest level possible.
Because I support Charlton for the personal enjoyment it brings me, rather than for success.
Being in the premiership would probably price me out if we stayed there (prices have gone bonkers since we were last there) and if I can't go and support my team, esp away from home, its pointless.
If I was an armchair fan, then fair enough, but I'm not.
before this season, my 'realistic' prediction was somewhere between 10th and 20th, and my 'out-there' prediction was 5th. who knows, but anything is possible imo. like others, i would definately take a season up, get some parachute money in and rebuild for a future in the premiership, although i wouldn't mind a few more years in the championship either. also wouldn't mind being a yo-yo club, and to be honest, anything is better than league one!
No chance .It was only 3 games ago we were looking dead. But if it happen the club would be sold to new owners, back to square one. Some directors would get there money back good for Mr Murray .
However I'd be well pleased if we go up, cash in, not spend silly money trying to remain there, probably get relegated and have the money to launch a real attempt to remain in the prem for substantial seasons the season after.
As I said on here the other day, if the chance comes for promotion you have to grab it with both hands.
I HATE the Premiership and all the wank that comes with it, but we are in debt for a nice few quid (30 million) and just a single season in the Premiership could help clear those debts and give us a fresh start.
As Richard Murray said at the start of the 2006/07 season, "This is not the season to get relegated, the TV money is about to increase substantially."
SCP's will to win, his man management, KC putting his hand in his pocket for Frimpong, best team spirit in the division, best squad in the division IMO, and 110 points available...Premiership.....WHY NOT?
I can barely afford a ticket (home or away) now. If we were in the Prem I'd be f*cked. And, as a "loyal supporter" I don't see how that is desirable or fair.

with the Champs as it is, promotion is a possible but a remote one. let's be grateful for what we've got.
that said, i'd take promotion all day long.

We got relegated.
