Let's wait and see how things turn out over the season. Waggy came back and proved his worth to the team last season.
It will be harder for him this season in a higher division but hard work and effort are one thing even those blind to his other talents can't deny him, surely?
Waggy is a classic fan favourite - a youth product, nice guy, and very visibly energetic on the pitch. While that's always nice, is it enough in this league?
I don't think it's slagging him off to say that I place much higher value on things like touch, awareness, ability to beat a man and decision-making....the things he's not as good at.
However, the quality I value most of all in players is this: the willingness to take responsibility at all times, and to never hide from possession. This is something that many people fail to recognise in so called "lazier" players like Green, Stephens and even Jerome Thomas and Lloyd Sam in the past. Sure, it may not always work - but they always want the ball, and are never scared to try something bold. Wagstaff spends a lot of time on the wrong side of his man's shoulder, hovering around, chasing lost causes and waiting to be presented with opportunities. Stephens and Green (when at his best) try to create them from nothing.
If I had to chose between a player high on workrate but low on quality, or the opposite way round - I know who I'd pick every time (see Ricardo Fuller...)
Wagstaff doesn't strike me as overly quick, he doesn't beat his man too often. It's hard to put my finger on, but he just has a very energetic style which I think gets interpreted as 'pace' more often than not.
Danny Haynes is IMO the quickest player the club has had since Rommedahl.
Azeez is rapid too - wait til you see him unleashed. He runs like Michael Johnson too - very upright. Awesomely fast and very very strong
MY two cents is that Waggy doesn't have a trick or the delivery to be a winger. He isn't strong enough to play off the frontman (shame as his eye for a goal is excellent) and that leaves him screwed.
When Green is running at goal and shapes to shoot he almost always hits the target and either forces a save or it's blocked or a goal. Waggy just runs down blind alleys. Dont get me wrong - I was pushing for him to play off the striker last season - I still think he could do a job up front - but we have better options now

As well thought out and articulate as 'Two bob Beckham'.

Maybe, but I knew exactly who Henry was talking about when he said it.

So did I,but that doesn't make the comment any the less inane.

I'd say he has pace, but he is very one dimensional, so a defender just needs to stand in his way and he is done. He also got into a habit of falling over, lying down and appealing for 5 minutes.
Yet despite this he still scores goals and contributes assists.
He came back into the team for the run in and gave it a boost.
Now he's got over his injuries we'll see what he can do but it was only a week or two ago that Jackson and Stephens were being written off and Haynes was the forgotten man who'd never be fit.
And I do think he has a future as a striker, in the role that Theo would like to play and Henri converted to from the wing.

Sense of humour by-pass went well I see : - )
There was a smiley thing. It's a joke.
I only call him a two bob beckham to wind up the fans of the two-bob beckham : - )

And yet the two-bob Beckham was our highest assist-maker last year. Strange.
Firstly no he wasn't BWP was. And BWP never took any corners or free-kicks
And the two bob beckham got all of three goals one of which the keeper threw in the net which was less than Waggy got in fewer games.
I'm sorry Henry, but referring to Green as a 'Two bob Beckham 'wasn't intended as a 'wind-up' to anyone. It was a derogatory comment, nothing more.
However, you prefer Waggy,I prefer Green,so it's all good.
Let's see what CP thinks...
How do you know what I intended? It was a joke hence the :- )
Of course it is derogatory. Not any more derogatory than calling saying "waggy is rubbish" but just funnier.
We've already seen what Powell thinks. Dropped Green for Waggy at the end of last season and brought Waggy back from Orient while at the same time Green can't get off the bench.
I think both will be gone in the summer if not before as CP clears the decks and frees up some wages for the big push under the new owners but we shall see.
Wagstaff picked up some bad habits of falling too easily and needs to be stronger , much stronger to make a difference. Haynes has presence; unfortunately wagstaff does not and I would not put him as any great tackler either. Great bloke but at present too lightweight.
I hate to labour the point Henry, but nowhere after 'Two bob Beckham ' did you insert the smiley thing, and although you accused me of having had a sense of humour bypass, it wasn't remotely funny, believe me.
Wilson followed by Green followed by Wagstaff for me. Wagstaff hasn't shown enough in the past 12 months to warrant the hyperbole, too weak, too quick to complain to officials and his strengths aren't groundbreaking either. Greens delivery is superior, Wilsons faster, Pritchard is a better hustler and ball winner, and ultimately Waggy cant make the step up imo. He either needs to switch his position full time, or switch his club

I actually liked the fact that he stood his ground and argued when more often than not he had been fouled. I have noted that in this league there is much more pushing and pulling and it needs to be made an issue so you get more decisions, or better still the other player stops doing it. It was not as if he pi**ed off the ref to the extent that he was continuely getting booked for it.
I also think that Green's delivery is poor 80% of the time and I lost count of the shots that went flying up into the stands as he seems unable to keep a shot low and hard.
Waggy's first instinct is to attack and he runs at players and into space. This puts the defence on the back foot and makes things happen. I have said before that he has the attributes that lend him to playing in a 5 man MF, but not ahead of Haynes and Wilson. I have no doubt that CP has bought him back as Wilson is injured and if anything happens to Haynes he will play as I believe that this a formation that CP intends to play, at least when we are away.

Surprised anyone sees Green as anything like an "all round player". Not sure why Wagstaff's poor awareness and decision is apparently his problem - yet Green is generally weaker in those areas.
I expect to see us play a form of 4-5-1 more often this season and that's a system Wagstaff is more suited to - though Haynes and Wilson should both be ahead of him at the moment.

So as Scoham proves no, I'm not wrong. Waggy did more in less time. Green was dropped by Powell for Waggy as he needed his qualities in the run in when the two-bob beckham (this is a joke) couldn't be relied on.
As I said I can see both being gone by the Summer if not earlier if for no other reasons that Wilson is better than both and both are young enough to attract a fee.
Azeez is rapid too - wait til you see him unleashed. He runs like Michael Johnson Eddie Firmani too - very upright. Awesomely fast and very very strong

Well, you are. If Wagstaff's the better option and you think (for some reason) that he's also the PREFERRED option, then just why has Green played more minutes?
To substantiate your point, if you divide playing time by contribution (goals and assists), even then Green comes out on top. I just did it. It's also interesting to note that Green hit the woodwork on five separate occasions, often from range.
And why would Wagstaff be loaned out if his contribution in the run-in was as significant as you say?
For the same reason that most in this thread have suggested - he's not good enough for this league.
The recurring argument from Wagstaff fans is that he tracks back and works hard. This is just a smokescreen for his obvious shortcomings as a winger. He doesn't beat men, he runs into blind alleys, and he passes the ball back to Solly far more frequently than he does anything positive.
In this league - and especially away from home - you need players to stand up and be counted. And that includes making themselves available for the ball. Now I'm not saying Green is the answer but at least he's always in the game.
Personally I'm very happy with Pritchard and think the chances of Wagstaff replacing him in the team are incredibly slim.

waggy is our best ever worse player

And your love-child Wagstaff amassed a grand total of two goals more than the two-bob Beckham.
So when it comes to combining assists and goals, Green wins. Right? Right. So your argument is yet again, poor.
Incredible.
