The work is probably connected with the new East London Line service from Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction which starts the next weekend. (There will be a station at Surrey Canal Road from 2015). The service to London Bridge from Victoria goes at the same time.

If you are looking for a pub for the Millwall game try the Britannia 44 Kippling street about 5-7mins walk from London bridge, or the Horseshoe inn in Melior street, both decent pubs and as in back street around the hospital they are quiet.
