Without (admittedly) having read this entire thread it strikes me that there is a hell of a lot of anti MK Dons sentiment here.

Just to play devils advocate for a moment spare a thought for the people of Milton Keynes who, until 2004 didn't have a team (and certainly no allegiance to Wimbledon). Now fast forward 8 years and those same fans have grown to love their team in the same way we love Charlton - alright they may not have the history, they may not have experienced the ups and downs that we have but THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO BE PROUD OF THEIR TEAM!

My message to AFC Wimbledon fans is let bygones be bygones. The past is what it is and nothing can change that. You also have a team to be proud of and have done remarkably well climbing the football pyramid the way you have over the past few years.

Good luck to both of 'em in the cup and may the best team win!

What was ever stopping the people of Milton Keynes clubbing together to start a side???

The people of a lot of towns don't have a football league side and even when they do most support a club hundreds of miles away via sky

Not an argument I'm afraid mate

Lasy year someone posted about AFC's treatment of Kingstonian so it is not like AFC are the moral guardians of the game - any non league clubs were happy to be rid of them as they went up the leagues.

Then you might find this link of interest in correcting your view. Wimbledon didn't buy the lease to the ground until at least a year after Kingstonian had sold it themselves. And the article linked is the horse's mouth, the guy who set up the Kingstonian supporter's trust and watched it all happen..Tx l

Interestingly Winkelman was on TalkSport earlier. Might be crocodile tears of course, but he stated that he regretted what he'd done in the sense that he didn't then understand the intrinsic link between supporters and their club, and said he wouldn't do the same thing today.

He wasn't repentant of creating MK Dons, of course, and declined to drop the 'Dons' from the name when challenged to do so by AFC Wimbledon's chairman. Same argument about respecting the fans' emotional investment in the club. Frankly I doubt they've got more than a handful of Wimbledon's original supporters left so I'm not sure what that means.

Thanks for that link Rikofold - interesting reading from someone that closely involved.
Like I said, recalled someone on here a year or so ago posting that non league clubs didnt like AFC.

I do stand by my comment that I dont think it would have been better to let Wimbledon fold than to relocate to MK. Some club must be better than no club. Obviously even that opinion is enough to be villified by some on here.

Yeah that would probably have been me, after AFC caused numerous amounts of trouble at Bromley and a afew other gorunds.
Morally don't agree with the MK Dons scenario... and you have to take your hat off to AFC for rebuilding and getting where they are... unfortunately they are an odious group of t00sers who I hope I never have the misfortunte to meet again... and I am looking forward to MK rattling double figures past them.

    Probably

Doesn't really back the point up though does it?

So the the football league deprived populous of Milton Keynes had a right to franchise out a football club like a branch of McDonald's then?

I'm not digging at you but the guy who wrote the article admitted he was doing so with bias and he neglects the real point. In fact he is flippant about it.

If Wimbledon fc were to fold then the space in the football league should have gone to the next placed conference side. Not be renamed and rebranded and sold as a product to a supposed football deprived hotbed

No offence taken. Incidentally I wrote my initial comments prior to reading the blog.

Your the idiot and your obsession with MK dons is boring now, oh and I've been there twice thank you very much and it's a soulless plastic shit hole of a stadium in the middle of no where just like a lot of new grounds. Winkleman is a prick there was no need to try fuel the fire with his comments.

MK Dons should have done what AFC Wimbledon did, but instead they stole Wimbledon's place in the League. Of course they have a right to be proud of their team, but they shouldn't have a right to be in the League without earning it first - and certainly not by killing off another club. We shouldn't forget, because it could happen to us - and indeed it very much could have happened to us back in the 80s.

For what its worth, my belief is that the blame for MK Dons lies fairly and squarely with three parties Merton Council, Wimbledon Executive management and the Football authorities.

I don't blame the lack of support that Wimbledon used to get, nor do I blame MK Dons, why spend years investing and toiling in the lower leagues if someone is going to give you your objective on a plate. MKD did not steal Wimbledons place they were given it. They were opportunistic but then who isn't in football .. Plymouth doing badly financiaslly we get BWP for a snip, Charlton doing badly Newcastle get Rob Lee at a snip.

If Wimbledon had gone out of business I doubt the AFC we know today would exist, it may be a fans formed club but the momentum for the club was generated by the sense of injustice, if it had faded into oblivion it would not have generated the momentum or importantly media coverage. So in a strange way MKD are responsible for the AFC we have today .. not sure AFC fans would agree.

MKD is a nice ground, but too big for them, currently, but like the rest of Milton Keynes is soulless and it is also reflection of a club which has a lot of fans for whom they are not their fist choice.

Don't really care who wins in the cup, may watch it, neither of them are my club, so I can't get het up about it as others have done.

Is there any reports or records of the first time Charlton played arsenal?

17th of October 1936. Charlton lost away 0-2

Read on the BBC website earlier this week that AFC Wimbledon have advised the MK Dons staff/scouts to keep away from Kingsmeadow in the build-up to the game, in case they are recognized!

Thierry Henry got both goals I believe

One thing that often surprises me is in the haste to criticise MK Dons people seem to forget that AFC still have a few questions to answer namely over the treatment of Kingstonian (and the location of their ground)
  • Options
What questions are they? They purchased the ground from Kingstoian as they couldnt afford the upkeep and Kingsonian havent lost out on the deal have they as the gorund is in a bertter state now than it was five years ago.

As for the location of the current residence that is down to Merton counci, and could be rectified in next few years

That's been answered earlier in this thread.

Did somebody get a toeing from a Womble WoW?

Loads of 'unfortunate' incidents... my friend (who is a Hampton&Richmond fan) was attacked by a group of AFC fans on the way back to his car after the game at Hampton where AFC managed to knock over a wall and loads of advertising hoardings..
My mate, his pregnant wife, and his dad (who is an OAP) were also attacked by a group of AFC 'fans' after AFCs last visit to Bromley... probably all Bromleys fault for serving them beer, not escorting them to the station etc etc.. fking wkers the lot of them....

Read that AFC have sold about 1500-2000.

Read this morning that the AFCW board are refusing all hospitality from MK Dons and will sit in the stands. Gets the point across I suppose.

Also Wimbledon supporters planning on wearing those white contamination suits to "protect them from toxic fallout".

It's unlikely to end well this game...
  • Options
Personally think that AFC board are inflaming a situation which is already volatile, they should be telling their fans to calm down. They will undermine their cause if it all kicks off. i think someone said Winkelman (?) has also commented and he too should shut it. Despite every thing it is only a football match and there is no excuse for anyone to end up in hospital.
