  • think its just shows the importance of playing people in their correct position.

Does not bode well for Waggy though does it? Wilson and Green look to be the top choices for right midfield, Pritchard is able to deputise there also. Wouldn't be shocked if Wagstaff ends up moving on in January, but nor would I be overly disappointed if I'm honest.

I like Waggy but tend to agree. If we are to grow over the next few years to get in position to challenge for promotion we will see most of the current squad move on or demoted to squad players with better quality players coming in there place. This is dependent on staying up this year and money etc.
  • I like him. Strange really cos when you look at him, he doesn't look like a footballer - let alone someone who actually has quite a bit of pace on their side.

If he ends up being a back-up right winger/right back when Rhoys Wiggins comes back into the fold, then we would have done very well.
  • The thing about Wilson, is that he's a midfielder, signed to be RB cover. If Solly had left, then would he really have been first choice RB this season? At what point should someone like Cousins become RB cover, with Wilson a permanent fixture in midfield?

  • When Cousins is ready perhaps?
  • Wilson has pace, drive and energy - something our midfield (apart from Pritchard) seem to lack.

    He has to play midfield.

Agree, think he'll turn out to be a better option than Green, who doesn't have those strengths.

    And Wagstaff.
  • As i have said in other posts on other threads now i like Wilson when he goes forward, he is just a poor defender. I like the idea of Wilson being right midfield as he does have good energy and his crosses (although hit and miss) look dangerous. keep Solly at RB, Wilson as RM and Wiggins/Evina at LB i'll will be happy.
  • Think we'll create alot more chances with him on the right. Said a few times that I didn't see why we spent money on a backup right back but he's turning out to be a good signing

  • Hope the people so keen to judge after about two games, are well and truely enjoying that pie!!!!.Dont choke!!!!

firstly i was not amongst those who felt he was a below budget signing .I saw him at the stevenage game last season and thought he was by far their outstanding player ,he is still young and can get better ...think he will become a real crowd favourite .....remember (with some mixed memories) our last Lawrie !

That would be "Sam" Lawrie? One of my all-time favourite players.

  • I think the best bet is no one should make any comments or form an early opinion on any new player until they have witnessed said player "live" for ten games minimum playing in their favoured position , then and then only should views be allowed to be expressed.....
He was absouloute shit playing full back in the orient cup game that I saw him in but has clearly improved although my actual opinion is being witheld cos I haven't seen him play right midfield ten times yet

Or we can just post our views on what we see or just have the standard he's brilliant cos he's signed for charlton/played for our youth team/supports us/trys hard/is a nice bloke so must be good line trotted out every time a new one arrives in the first team
  • Couldn't agree more oohaah.
  • Ooh Aah, the difference is between

    A. Wilson played badly

    And

    B. Wilson is a bad player

Unfortunately a few can't or won't distinguish bewteen the two.

    So you get premature evaluation
  • So many on this site suffer from this Henry!......

Reasons were given as to why Wilson was a bad full back.

He is a good midfielder and his recent performances have shown that.

Hope he keeps up his form as he looks to be a good addition.

    Its an age thing!

  • Wilson is a league one full back and has the possibility of going on to become a championship standard right midfielder.
  • I really don't think that Wilson was as bad a full back as some people are making out.I agree that right midfield is his position and he should remain there. But we have no experienced cover for Solly.

  • Wilson is not a bad full back or just a league one fullback either . Anybody who thinks so ( the usual suspects)are judging him on one performance.
  • Can some one let me know when to start the Hulse -humble-pie-time thread
  • zzzzz

Like I said, criticism is not always a bad thing. Happy to be proved wrong as Wilson did, but still stand by the fact CP should have played solly/evina weeks ago.
  • At Wolves in the 1st half Solly and Wilson both did a good defensive job but seemed unsure when attacking. After the break they sorted out their attacking options and became a very effective partnership.

It was very fortuitous that Wolves did most of their attacking down our right.

Sorry Beds but I don't like to think of myself as "a usual suspect" but in my opinion if that's ok with you I don't think Wilson is a Championship level defender. His ability going forward from right midfield has a lot of potential and the fact that he can defend is a useful attribute and one that Green cannot provide. My opinion of him as a fullback is not based on one game but I think he has on the whole looked uncomfortable at fullback.

Happy to see Wilson doing well in midfield. He is not a good full-back for reasons i have said many times (one being he doesn't like tackling which is a key attribute for a defender), but i will admit he is good in midfield because he is fast and has a lot of energy. He has calmed down a lot and looked less nervous in recent weeks which has helped.

Keep him in midfield and the rest of the fans i am sure will follow suit and support him. He just makes me nervous as a defender, and i base this on seeing all home games only, which in my opinion allows me the right to give my views. We can't all go to every game home and away so maybe i have missed games where his tackling has been immense (although not read that on any reports from anyone so far). I'd like to go to away games as well but work and family committments stop that.
  • He has played well at full back and put in some good tackles. Is not afraid to go forward and I suspect he has a better pass completion rate than many in the team in recent weeks. Injuries looked to have produced a more balanced team.
  • Why is this site becoming all about one-up-man-ship? I can only speak for myself - my criticism of Wilson was based on seeing him 20-30 times for Stevenage. I have mates at the club who have seen him day in day out in training for the last few years who also agreed he wasn't good enough for the championship and felt they'd got a really good deal for the amount of money we paid. It would appear that he's stepping up which is fantastic. But based on a lot of opinions who had seen him a lot more than just against us and spurs - he hadn't shown anything to suggest he'd be able to step up. I'm happy that it's looking like i'll be proved wrong,
