  • Our biggest problem is our inability to convert chances - 1 point from the last 2 games given how we dominated them is very worrying.
  • Countless chances, against a piss poor watford side. Ref... Lino.... Run of the ball got to change soon. Feel so F***** off..
  • Thought we looked better before Hulse cane on personally.

Thought the post was a bit strange personally but each to their own.
  • We miss our goal scorers and dead ball kickers jackson, kermy and even waggy. Can't say I'm that convinced about Kerkar yet.
  • Someone you've never seen is always going to be a world beater.
  • nolly said:

why do we always hump the ball up

    cos our wingers r shite

  • Clean sheets just don't seem to happen in this division. Look at the results each week, maybe two teams keep clean sheets? Attacks in this division are very good.

We need to try and find a way to convert more chances rather than be too concerned defensively.

Not going to respond to the laughable opening post.
  • The post is way Ott and that detracts from a serious point

sCp should've changed it on 60 mins I would've changed it at half time and it would have been for rasak to allow Stephens the space the extra man should've provided

More of a reluctance and faith in starting 11 mistake than the stupid things choice said
  • On a slightly different note...........does it make a difference what position a manager played as a player ??? Curbs was a defensive midfielder as his teams played in the same style............Pardew was no better and Parkinson the same. Powell, a defender, sets his stall out to keep clean sheets (just read his post match interview where he is bemoaning we have only kept 1 clean sheet this season) - whereas a feel an attacking player would be looking to score more goals than their opponants.

Just ask yourself - are clean sheets enough ? if you kept 46 clean sheets but never scored then 46 0-0's are only going to get you 46 points and certain relegation. Therefore, scoring goals is more important than clean sheets !!!!!!!.
  • @Tricky is right, there are very few clean sheets in this division.

I'd say Powell being reluctant to use his subs earlier is very much the norm amongst most managers....who does make effective (early) subs on a regular basis? Fergie definitely (but look at the talent he has) but I'd struggle to think of another boss who does it with any great success?

Virtually every game we play, the opposition will make the first unenforced change, and in most games the opposition will make more changes, usually all 3, so I think Powell is quite extreme in the late subs category
  • Oh, look who's back.

    Not been missed.

    Still a plum.

Hindsight is a a wonderful (and lazy) thing. I'm not sure the difference in personnel would've made someone make the right decision from 18 yards inwards.

Like you say, we were on top but didn't score. Is that down to Powell? Is Hulse more clinical than what we had on the pitch? Is Rasak match fit? We did everything we could in the second half apart from score. I'm frustrated as hell but I just can't fathom how you can blame and brand Powell.

Ah yes, the thread slagging off the manager part way through our most successful season EVER (in terms of beating what's in front of us). And here he is again.

Maybe he should make another video. I've got some national TV experience under my belt sonce the last thread, so I'd be happy to lend a hand.
  • And if he'd made 3 changes when it was still 1-1 and we still get beat? What happens then?

    Naive amateur. Probably.

  • I don't think we are doing too bad at the moment, If you thought we would piss this league then sorry but you are clueless. As people have said if you are controlling the game then why change the team? Even after they have scored you don't make subs straight away as that is a sign of panic tatics, you wait and see how the team deals with it then make your decision. It's all if's and but's if he changed the team at 1-1 and we lost 4-1 we would be moaning why he changed the team.

There's more groan on this thread than a knocking shop. Go have a cold one and chill out. I'm sure CP is the one that will struggle to sleep.

Have faith in the guy, just hope the board start backing him more.
  • A stubborn champion amateur
  • Fergie doesn't make early subs he trusts his team he picks to start

I understand that point but what fergie does is on the side Barrate a player who continually does not do what is asked and then will sub him at around 60 mins
  • Have to agree that Powell was very wrong to make changes so late.

unless he was injured I was more pissed off that Green was taken off.

if you're going 3 up top with Hulse down the middle you know that we'll go longer and get more crosses in and yet we relied on Solly/Wilson on the right and Kerkar on the left who i thought was poor last night.

maintain that Solly should be playing right back. he might be able to do a v good job on the left but we miss him on the right and we need that natural balance back across our back 4.

came away very frustrated last night.
  • What minute did they score and what minute was the changes made?

Up until they scored we looked threatening. The ball was kept on the floor and we had a few chances.

Agree with this in the main but will add i was surprised he brought on Pritchard when we needed a goal i thought he could have made a more attacking change for the last 10/15 minutes and gone for it

Why sub so early, we did everything but score
Only change I would have possibly made sooner is Hollands, got the run around
  • What minute did they score and what minute was the changes made?

Up until they scored we looked threatening. The ball was kept on the floor and we had a few chances.

They scored on 70 and changes made on 77. Why the delay? Changes that late are normally used to slow the pace of the game (see Watford) not to win it. I thought Powell should have made his tactical change to go 3-4-3 at or shortly after half-time when it was obvious they would only play Deeney up front. Still trying to work out how we only got 1 point from these last two games. We didn't play badly but I just don't feel we are going to win games.
  • Maybe not the words I'd use but it was an appalling use if substitutes so I agree.

Although we were on top we needed fresh legs to push on after an hour.

Around us we thought Green probably did need to come off (he didn't play bad, just hadn't had much luck and looked tired) and be replaced by Wagstaff's pace to stretch the game.

Hollands should have come off sooner also but surely to be replaced by Rasak (What is the point of having him on the bench otherwise).

7 minutes isnt a huge amount, time subs warm up etc. the first 10 mins after halftime we won a few corners, controlled possession and look good. If Powell had made changes then, people would be saying why didn't he leave it when we were on top.
Last night we could have played any formation and not scored.
It was just one of those games.
  • My only real gripe is playing players out of position as soon as Solly went right back & wilson further up the field they look so much more natural. Playing a right footer at left back is not working & we can all see it's not working. Still think with the rub of the green we could of won that game by three or four last night, sometimes its just not your night, being a Charlton fan we have had a few of those down the years.
  • But ValleyGary why weren't the subs being readied BEFORE they scored? We were playing 10 men, at home and weren't winning. It shouldn't have required a goal to make him realise that we needed to change. And you can't really say 7 minutes isn't a long time. If a player gets injured and is subbed, we don't see the sub taking 7 minutes to warm up, he is brought on immediately (as happened on Saturday with Jackson.)
  • Yes we was on top before the subs came on but never ever looked like scoring. We was awful against Derby but waited till we was 2-0 down before a change was made. Blackburn on Saturday were there for the taking we was on top for the whole of the second half but never looked like scoring why wasn't there a change to go more attacking. These lack of changes when needed are costing us.
