A stubborn amateur

edited October 2012 in General Charlton
It was so obvious to everyone at 60mins that we were on top of the match but couldn't quite get that goal.......so make a bloody change because we could all see it. Bring on hulse and rasak and instantly we have a better team. But no you wanna be a hero like always and be proved right so you wait 10mins before the end and bring on Hulse ...but then like a mug you bring on Pritchard over a premier league midfielder who plays for the league champions of England... clueless amateur

I'm a big Chris Powell fan but I tend to agree with you. Wouldn't say he was a clueless amateur though. More a little naive, IMHO

Don't mean to start a row but if we were obviously on top, then why would CP want to change it round?

I will get on that now.
  • I'd go with unlucky rookie.

  • He's an inexperienced manager let down by 'the money men' in the close season. He has to make do with last season's players and a few pretty good loanees who will need the proverbial time to settle. At the close of the season before last I slagged Powell off horrendously when we lost about seven on the trot. After last season I won't make that mistake again.
BUT .. improvement is needed and soon. No-one mentions the defence. I have only seen 3 games this season, to me the defence is nowhere near as sound as many fans seem to think.

    Not from me.

Personally, I think how is a rookie manager ever meant to learn his trade without making his own decisions and standing by them. To call Chris Powell a mug and a clueless amateur shows a lack of patience, and a severe lack of class.
  • We were on top without creating much, how that's possible I don't know, but fully agree I'm not one to have a go at powell put his choice of subs and the timing of his subs each games are clueless.
  • Powells inabillity to make changes when needed had cost us yet again. Also not playing a balanced back four has cost us yet again. We was on top in the second half but were never going to score, why not make a change and go for it. Same against blackburn clearly on top but bottled bringing on a second striker and really going for it.
  • Not a bad effort from your last Powell thread:

    http://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/46796/questions-for-powell/p1

Hindsight is a a wonderful (and lazy) thing. I'm not sure the difference in personnel would've made someone make the right decision from 18 yards inwards.

Like you say, we were on top but didn't score. Is that down to Powell? Is Hulse more clinical than what we had on the pitch? Is Rasak match fit? We did everything we could in the second half apart from score. I'm frustrated as hell but I just can't fathom how you can blame and brand Powell.
  • Totally agree WSS

I was happy Powell had the bo**ox to play 3 upfront towards the end, but was a bit late changing it around. Might have to think about dropping BWP he misses far too many chances but silly mistakes from our back four and poor decisions from officials cost us the game tonight.

Hamer back pass, what is he playing at?
  • I can see how, poor decision to bring Pritchard on, he doesn't create and doesn't score and he's also tiny and that Watford team were big, the timing of the subs were all wrong
  • I think Powell should have made changes.
I think Powell is responsible for us being in the Championship.

    Get it into perspective.

  • why do we always hump the ball up

The defence is sound. It is left isolated at times by the midfield being slow which is our main problem. We conceded from two set pieces we should be defending set pieces better as a team.
  • The defense is out of sorts, 1 clean sheet in 9 games speaks volumes

That is a little bit grating

We had the 6th best defence in the league before tonight. The problem is clinicalism up top and drive from midfield
  • Ah so you would have liked to have had someone you have never seen play before and has been at the club 3 days come on holding midfielder instead of Pritchard. That would have been a game changer!
