Palace away following

As much as I despise the feathered ones I always believed they had a decent following(in terms of numbers) to The Valley.

Turns out on the 7/9 their tickets for next week went on general sale with two tickets per person, shall be interesting to see if they sell out.

  • Still awaiting police confirmation of an escort from surrey.

Not so. Us old uns who can remember a bit further back still talk of their visit in 74/75 when both teams were going for promotion. A Friday night, a huge game and a crowd of about 24,000 (correct me if I'm wrong). And not more than a few hundred Palace showed standing behind the old away end. Even they soon disappeared when a few Charlton walked around to say hello. You wouldn't have known there was a Palce fan in the ground. Never seen such a pathetic turn-out for such a big match - and even a Palace fan I know will admit to it.

Nor did their following to the Valley improve throughout the 70s or 8Os. Never showed up in any real numbers and never once tried to get into the Covered End.

It's only in recent years, after the Jimmy Seed stand has become all seater that they've turned up in any numbers. Fair play to them for that. But let's not re-write history and pretend throughout the last 20/30 years they've had any sort of following at the Valley.

No confirmation yet. Tense stuff up at the yard. There debating whether they will need to deploy a armed unit in case things get a bit "Millwall"
  • they had 750 at the den once....shaming shame itself there

Would not argue with that Fortune(nice title by the way), I was working on from the early '90s in my defence
  • Bringing 3,000 to a local derby isn't exactly an indication of a good following. Any club in the top two divisions would manage the same.

The point is that they haven't sold that many yet...

    Thank you
  • Looks like they're going to be congregating in the Barrowboy and Banker in London Bridge before the game. Great - that's where I'll be coming in from work. Its inevitable I'm going to be seething before I get to the ground being surrounded by that lot.
  • if you have clear skin they will no your charlton tom

  • I'll be the one with the Charlton shirt mate. I'm itching for this match.

Inevitable that there will be a load of palice at London Bridge as their route to get over to us

These tossers annoy me no end. Funny how Palace "don't care about us" until they beat us at their gaff the year we went down. I do wonder if this "carefree" attitude towards us stems from the fact they've generally done poorly against us in the very recent years.

A quick glance on their forums and this notion can be instantly disregarded.

Either way, I do despise them as a club - what do they even stand for? I hope we beat them, and if they want to kid themselves about their thoughts on us, so be it.

This is notwithstanding the fact that I have good mates who are Palace fans. All clubs have their fair share of c*cks (I know we do, too), but I just find Palace's existence absolutely pathetic and in many respects embarrassing.

To coin a phrase I read on here earlier, they shame shameful.
  • I'll be on a train full of them too. Coming from charin x. Cracked me up pulling into London bridge last year with all the scrotes banging the windows. Stinking nigels.

I will be disappointed if we do not get 23K as that would mean Charlton support would be less than 20K

Only if they sell out - which doesnt appear to be a certainty. Dont blame them, why pay to see your team lose ;-)

    hahaha
  • There's probably a poster on a Palace forum called OooaahEddieMcGoldrick digging them out about their turnout right now :-)

  • Are they doing the Eagles Express coaches from Kent for this game ??

Lol. Every club needs one (or two).

Have they taken away the surface to air missiles at Blackheath?

No chance, the game is live on Sky, I would not be surprised to see a sub 20k attendance annouced
  • Is any one else as bored with all these 'our support is bigger than their support', 'how many will they bring', 'you're not our rivals, they are...' bulls### threads? All a bit school playground isn't it.

It's a game of football for crivens sake why not focus on that? I've not seen one football related post yet.

The way some people are getting their knickers in a twist over it is a little bit embarrassing imo. We haven't even had any visitors from Palace yet, this place is going to go into meltdown when that happens...
  • who would have thought a thread about 'palace away following' would be talking about how many they will bring

no not bored of it but i'm not interested in 'Local skip hire' 'labradors, german shepherds & dogs' or any of the music threads

amazingly i don't open these threads or if i do i skim read and don't bother commenting on it cos i find it a bit boring

seriously bournemouth give it a go , it can't be difficult if i can do it
  • I only comment Bournmouth because I like to see The Valley as full as possible not because I am interested in Palace fans or any other fans in general.

  • His point still stands though. People are making schoolboy threads like this and there isn't one on the actual game!

I'm worried about David Goodwillie, he's a great signing for them, but not as good as Ricardo!
