We were absolutely brilliant today. The effort and commitment they showed right from the start was faultless.
When you look at some of the players in their team - Lovendkrands, Burke, Butland, King, Ambrose....It's incredible how we just went there, played them off the park and took them on with no fear.
If we play like that consistently then we will win more than we lose this season.
The noise in the Charlton end was deafening in the second half.
Spoke very briefly to a Charlton fan on the way home, he reckons Solly is off to West Ham , Hayes has gone to Brentford and we are signing Danny I'm guessing, not sure if he's behind the times or bang on the money?
I would snap West Ham's hands of if they offered 5mil or a package worth 5mil. He is an excellent young player but there are very good right backs out there who could be snapped up for a fraction of that.
You were very organised and over ran us in midfield (I put that down to Mullins being absolutely woeful though, he got caught in possession about 15 times).
You definitely lack that oomph on the attack though. BWP seemed like the only player that could run at anything above a jog.

Has to be rubbish if Solly was all but done he would not have played today

Great team effort, good support and shows that this team can survive in this division, but to do well we need to be sharper up front and need more strength in depth.
Just back and not read thread. Totally gutted as a great performance. Stephens lost the ball when could have run it in the corner and the last attack proved oh so costly. Defence was class especially Wiggins. Most Charlton fans won't hear it but he is our best defender plus he also provides so many assists and power to our attacks withhis pace and crossing ability. One turn under pressure in 1st half was pure class.
BWP poor and wasted some great oppotunities to shoot/set up chances etc. So frustrating. Nothing to fear from this league on that display but need to get those two points back quickly. Win Tuesday and this will seem like a good point.
As others have said we do need to be more clinical in front of goal, it's too early to judge BWP but I'm hoping his confidence has returned.
Man of the match could go to either Pritchard, Solly, Cort or Hollands. Pritchard really seemed to shine for me today, yet even a league higher; Solly still seemed to out class the opposition. How he wins balls in the air I will never understand!
Apart from a few short spells their attacks were pretty harmless, we seemed to dominate the first half. The second half they came out more determined but we still seemed to be in control.
Celebrating that goal was mad, truly a special moment. Made me realise just how far we've come and perhaps how far we can still go with those 11.
Most disappointing last minute though, I was stunned when they scored. Truly stunned. It's funny that 90 minutes before I would've grabbed a point with both hands - yet I felt robbed when it came down to it.
Gutted that we didn't win as they didn't trouble us at all up till then. Every shot/cross went straight to Hamer which showed great posisioning and handling on his part. Solley and Pritchard looked classy though I thought Stephens didn't get his raneg of passing right. Yes we missed 5 or 6 but some of the football to create them was sublime. Only problem today was mistaking the floodlights of Egbaston for St Andrews. Luckily got into Brum early but will never get used to cricket grounds having floodlights.
Good, solid performance from everyone in a red shirt today. Total commitment from all our lads - looked like a continuation of last season. Really couldn't pick out a MOM.
Only one team deserved the 3 points, and the Blues fans knew it .
Great to be back in the Championship & looks as though we have little to fear.
Just got back home having dropped Large off at Sevenoaks Station so he could get home earlier, so I make appologies if I saw the game a bit differently to others on here, but this is my take on today...........
Back 5 immense & I agree that Wiggy is the stand out player atm
midfield too static at times - i don't agree with the current set up as we have no natural width so no crosses........I thoiugh Pritch is starting to show that he was playing non-league football a year ago and I feel that this league could be a step up
BWP needs to grow some gonands and shoot !!!!! diabolical pass when set up by Kermy in the 2nd half - I would have subbed him after that. However, as the brum fan says earlier, he is the only player with any pace. Kermy has now got to show that he is not just a one trick pony & has more than flick ons in his armoury and needs to show that he can run forwards with it too.
finally - gutted after the game & blame SCP totally. I felt he went too negative once we went ahead (took off JJ and brought on Taylor) whereas I would have brought on Green so we could keep hold of the ball. Last 5 mins we surrended teritory and tried to hold out and ended up just giving them the ball - should have pumped it long & fought for it in their last 3rd.
He clearly wanted another tall player on the pitch to help deal with Zigic. I'm never a big fan of defensive substitutions like that but in hindsight it looks a little bit of an error by Powell as Taylor lost the first header to Zigic and then both he and Morrison missed tackles to allow Zigic to dribble through and shoot. I can understand why Powell made the change but I'd much rather he made sub in an attempt to help us keep the ball further up the pitch well away from Zigic's bonce.
Oh well, overall it sounds a good performance, especially away from home, and we've been a bit unlucky to be punished for the one clear cut chance we gave away. The team will have learned a lesson and can take some confidence from it too. Win on Tuesday and we'll all be delighted with that start. Even a draw would represent a solid opening week made up of tough fixtures.
And your wrong we crossed the ball more today than any game I can recal
I think your right about natural width as we don't have out and out wingers but both full backs and right and left mid work the ball into positions that allow anyOne in our team the time and space to deliver a cross
Bwp was at fault with that pass not because he didn't have the balls to shoot but because his unforgivably did not look up before he played the ball
What was with us only having 6 subs out of 7 today, and no Green or Wagstaff? If there were injuries surely it is worth taking someone like Harriott or Sho Silva for the experience
Fancy us to do well if we get a goalscorer, missed way too mancy chances.
Wide play was brilliant, agree we needed to bring someone who could keep the ball jn their half on at the end not someone who will invite more pressure an ultimatley miss a interception!
Green was a sub today.I was at the game today I just feel we lack that little bit of goal power you need at this level just someone with that extra bit of class that will give the other strikers a bit of a boost.I have to say though that every player played with their heart on their sleeve!

Decent goal and great support.

So gutted after watching that. : (
Rhoys wiggins for me was the stand out player, the bloke will end up in the premier league sooner rather than later he really is such a class player.
