Very rare there's much trouble at away games, although I don't like the idea of the Brum fans sitting above us!! I'm getting the train up with a few mates, we have a bit of banter as expected but obviously there's certain fans that won't take it as banter. Those are the ones to stay away from and you can spot them from a mile off. I do enjoy the hussle and bussle of away days, meeting for a cafe breakfast, drinking your body weight in beer but there's ocassionally the odd dickhead who ruins it. At times it's even a cafc fan. At the end of the day it's all about the footy & I've got a sneaky feeling we could turn them over. If that happens Sage... Run!
Sorry, I was trying to be funny. No, I'm not going as I haven't found them to be a friendly bunch in the past. I'll leave it there. If we're taking 1500+ I should imagine people will have to sit in their allocated seat.
Grounds have allocated seating? See, I learn so much on this site.
To be fair, you've normally got thousands of empty seats to choose from!

Our away support is better than Charlton's though. But, yeah, that's true at some away games...yet I've never known Millwall fans to check for an allocated seat whether the game is a complete sell out or there's only 250 people there.
It's a bit of an odd thing to do.
Same at home - in fact the club made the most popular stand, the Cold Blow Lane end, blocks only about 15 years ago.
It's better then it used to be but I went there on a coach when I was 15/16 (1981), we lost 1-0, we had a section of the Tindall Road End, with their mob right next to us (there was a fence and netting right up to the roof between us), during the game the odd coin flew by but as far as I know no one was hurt. After the game we made our way to the coaches and then it all kicked off, several hundred Birmingham came up the road towards us, I wasn't hanging around and legged it onto some waste land police did a good job in standing in front of their lot and as far as I'm aware no Charlton got 'done' though it was a close shave. I think things have got better there now though the atmosphere is generally pretty hostile...but good if you like that sort of thing. For the record Birmingham also came into the covered end but Charlton held their own and forced them back out....same season I think, wont forget that as my mate lost his shoe in the mellee.....thankfully a big skinhead passed it back to him. For what it's worth I like Birmingham as a place and have had quite a few weekends up there (my wife has family living in Chelmsly Wood....they are all Villa though)........funny thing did anyone see the interview with the Jamaican sprinters...they all loved Birmingham).

Didn't know the CBL was blocks only Bunny....that is a good idea, they should do that with our 'covered end'.

Yeah, since about 1996 or so the whole of the Cold Blow Lane end has been blocks only - ie you buy a ticket for say block 13 and sit anywhere you like in that block.
It's been a great innovation - means you can bring mates and sit with them easily - even though the stand has the most season ticket holders in it (also block only).
It makes feel more like a terrace - in that you can move around more freely from game to game depending on what mates/ family are there.
The trade off though is that the club has to under sell the stand by 500 seats or so - in order to met safety requirements. This stops any overcrowding for games that have 'sold out' in that area...as there will always be scattered seats available.
This policy applies to the away end to.
As for the side stands - there's an unwritten law amongst fans that season ticket holders get to sit in their specific seats, but match day fans get to choose on a first come first served basis. This obviously causes a bit of aggro on busy match days with the day trippers - but for most bread and butter games works fine.

You knew that Bunny. After all you lot normally take your seat with you.
In their defence, it normally states on the ticket, take your seat 15 minutes prior to kick off. Although it say's nothing about throwing into the stand opposite. ; )

I dunno...you are caught live on national tv throwing hundreds of plastic seats at a fleeing Bedfordshire police force on a football pitch just once (and maybe once before v Ipswich) and nobody ever lets you live it down!
(Off topic, Sorry) Last time I went to B'ham I walked back to the station in the p*ssing rain. Got so soaked that I had to buy a new pair of jeans, shirt, pants & socks from the market near the station: £20 job lot. At least I was dry on the train home.

I remember that one, MOG.
We drove up and had the equivalent of "starched" denim jeans when they eventually dried out on the way home.
Evening fellas, Birmingham fan here...just a few things to clarify reading this thread...you guys are in the lower part of the Gil Merick stand which is behind the goal. You usually get half the stand depending on how many tickets you've sold. You won't get any problems from those sitting above you...it's a sparsely populated stand, and a lot of the older folks sit there...never any trouble. Opposite where you sit, however, in the corner of the Kop stand, is where some of our more excitable fans like to sit. Most of them only buy tickets in there to stare at the away fans all afternoon and act like Chimpanzees. For the last 3 months of last season the club stopped selling tickets in that corner of the ground, as there was a bit of trouble between fans, however the 2 games this season, a friendly against Antwerp (who bought 1,000 fans) and the game against Barnet the stand was in use, but the stewarding and policing of Blues fans looked a lot tougher. The other part of the Gil Merick lower is usually empty, but due to the poor atmosphere at st Andrews over the last few years (thank you mr. Mcleish) a group, imaginitively entitled Forza Blues have been set up, with the aim of bringing the atmosphere back...they are being supported by the club, and there will probably be drums, whistles and other pathetic thinks designed to fabricate an atmosphere. They were on local news tonight to promote themselves and they look like a bunch of window lickers. Pleas abuse them to your hearts content...they might get the message.
A few pointers to consider for travelling fans. We have a reputation for certain numbskulls following us, and it's a deserved one. It's true that the Barnet coaches were attacked, but for some reason there was no police prescence at the away gate on Tuesday. There will definitely be police on Saturday, so those on official coaches will have no problems. Those walking to the ground...my advice would be if you want a drink, have one in the city centre, you won't get any trouble...the 25 minute walk to the ground through the Digbeth area will take you past lots of pubs...some are friendly, some aren't, I personally wouldn't drink in any of them as an away fan....
Hennesseys is find...I suppose it's classed as Digbeth but it's close enough to the Bull Ring to be a city centre bar....it's the pubs further down into the heart of Digbeth I'd avoid
Cheers mate - can't make it now, gutted - was looking forward to this one. Usually drink in The Anchor, but with Blues mates, otherwise yeah would drink in the town.
Brum away play off 2002, just sat where we liked, same as any away game, what is all this stuff about sitting in allocated seats? You don't get to pick when you buy your ticket do you? Our club just hands us the next ticket off the batch they've been given, whatever the seat number.
Oldies down the front, singers at the back, those who are a bit of both in the middle. (although from memory Brums lively bunch sit on your right, so for those wanting more banter head to the right!)

You would think it would be that simple but for some reason we can never work it out.
Need to get back to New Street for 17-50. Looks like it could be tight, is walking it from the station the best way?
Ive read that the service from Moor Street to Bordesley is unreliable ?
From memory that walk is perfectly doable, if you walk quickly, leave on the dot and don't stop to clap our players off/shout abuse at Ambrose etc
In sell out away games, having allocated seating avoids the chaos of late arrivals desperately looking around for a spare seat, or groups of seats, indeed most times I went away last season, the area we were allocated was usually sold out (clubs tend to prefer to have fans all kept in one part of the stand rather than sprawling around a much larger area)

Haha clearly looking for a bite, YOU GOT IT SPOTTY!
Wigan away, you took 86.
Now please re-tract your comment, do your homework, and facck off.

Hope you all have a safe trip
Hopefully there won't be any zimmer frames heading down from above us !
Will aim 80% abuse towards ambrose and the remainder towards the ultras!
