That's because tunbridge wells is a proper shit hole full of toffs!

Are you serious? I wouldn't describe that many towns as beautiful - but this place I would; have you been around the Common/Pantiles?

It's such a shithole that it's always full of tourists!

P.S For those with long memories, for some reason I never fully understood, some of Chelsea's most notorious headhunters came from TW (and some were proper headcases) - so it's not all toffs, either.

Didnt realise you had to come from a S***hole or sink estate to be a football hooligan?....the majority of Chelseas top boys are/were from Surrey or Berkshire, with Reading being a headhunter feeder club.

That probably explains the 'little' run in we had with Reading in the early 80's...plenty of Chelsea at that game but remember they we pretty quick on their toes when they came face to face with Charlton's finest.

The same in 95, last game of the season

  • Took my nephew to Reading once, he wondered why they were all wearing QPR shirts.
  • DA9...is that Greenhithe?

Thought so I used to live there and recognised the DA9....not lived there since 85.
  • There is a road called 'Charlton Terrace'.

    Obviously a Charlton town!

Those of you calling Tonbridge and Paddock Wood dumps probably haven't been to many away games!

One thing that always struck me as funny about Tunbridge Wells was that it was the home of the Anti-Nowhere League, one of the greatest of the second wave of punk bands in the early eighties. So What, I hear you say.......!

Still going William, and still utterly brilliant!
  • When their first single came out, one of my mates wrote to them at their record cmpany. He got a reply from Animal, written on a piece of the old style bog roll. I bet he's still got it pinned to his wall at home.
  • One of my all time favourite songs.

Would be a great way to end an argument/ thread on here by just posting the video everytime you got the hump with arguing.
  • I live near tonbridge myself but my inlaws come under paddock wood!
6 bed house with swimming pool and stables and a carp lake.
But ur right who would want to live in that as its classed as paddock wood?

I went to a Muso party back in the early 80's when (for a wind-up) a very famous guitarist actually swam in the carp lake and fished in the swimming pool......a certain equally famous lead singer was not amused!

i have also heard about this chelsea headhunter thing. a friend went to a college near there and we went to a pub near the pantiles for the chelsea Barcelona match a few years back. the one where inista scored in the dying seconds.
full of chelsea. i was wearing a barca shirt, slid across the floor and shouted "get in there" when barca got that goal.
no trouble apart from some dirty looks and a few mumbled threats, there was some big blokes there though so we finished our drinks and left.
with my antics at the end i probably deserved a little slap.
After that experience i would say no head hunters left nowerdays or they are a little more mellowed out now.
  • yeah, quite a few chelsea round here tbh. But then again, when you live in the west end and chelsea, a natural place to go if you wanna move out of the city is somewhere like tunbridge wells
  • Still say the only reason u see chelsea shirts is cos there banging um out cheap in sport n soccer in the victoria centre?
  • The Chelsea headhunter that is being referred to is almost certainly a chap by the name of Hickmott - known as Hickey - who was one of their top boys in the late 70s/early 80s. I'm pretty certain his family were funeral directors which seems to provide a certain synergy somehow and for using that dreadful word (synergy not Chelsea) I will cease this post immediately.

I'l be spending 2 weeks at the in-laws in Eridge Green, between Tun Wells & Crowborough - not a bad little spot quite the contrast from the Canadian wilderness!!

Sister-in-law lives in Paddock Wood so dare say a few days there as well...was looking forward to biking/walking in the countryside without carrying bear spray but these reports of Millwall fans might force me to reconsider that :)

Sorry but Tunbridge Wells is full of snobs, why do you think they say "Royal Tunbridge Wells" stuck up wits!

because that's the name of the town? It was used as a holiday resort by the royals in the 18th and 19th centuries. And Queen Vic gave the town the prefix of Royal. Maybe head over to sherwood or even call some one a posh snob to their face in spoons on friday night and see where it gets you.

    blimey someone's heard of eridge!

and tunbridge wells is like anywhere, mix of people. get down to spoons/fusion/p&p on a thursday night tell me its full of toffs then!
