  • Clearly anyone who says Paddock Wood is a shithole needs to get out and about a bit more.

That's what I was thinking! If Paddock Wood - the epitome of the Kent country town as far as I knew - is a shithole then what does that make half of south London?
  • I live in Tonbridge, and across the road from a Millwall fan! So it is obviously a Millwall town lol.

Oh and there are three Chelsea flags in windows on the way to the station, so maybe it is home of the head-hunters!.

As a season ticket holder the prospect of a few beers chance to watch the massive Red Army
On my own doorstep is too great to miss.

So the Olympics and the misses can step aside! The new season is about to start and my voice needs to start getting ready for the north upper!

    COYR!
  • Quick question:
How far is the ground from Tonbridge station?

  • As a Paddock Wood Addick and a regular at both The Valley and The Longmead (Angels ground) have been v amused by these comments-while Paddock Wood is not the most wonderful place I've found it nothing but an extremely pleasant place to reside in and more pleasant than my home town of Bexley where I lived for my first 22 years-The Angels have a great little set up and I thoroughly enjoy going down there-regular crowds of about 600 but usually loud vocal and good-natured and - especially on midweek nights when the floodlights are on - the atmosphere can be terrific - as an owner of both a Charlton shirt and a Tonbridge shirt this poses me a dilemma-so if I just say COYA and leave it at that I can have a foot in both camps!

Quite a trek-a good half hour walk-taxi probably a better option
  • OK cheers for that cab it is then.
  • Is there a bus service from Tonbridge station to near the ground, as I see it is a 2 mile walk(30mins).

You can get on a number 7 from the station and get off at the castle, but that really only gets u to the other end of the high street. The ground is much further on. Taxi is the best option, think there's a cab firm to the left down the high street as u exit the station.
  • 'a number of Millwall attending Tonbridge v Charlton XI' - hahahahaha, really!?!?

  • I'm pretty sure there are buses that run from right outside the station to near the ground, but I don't know what numbers. You have to get one that's going up the Shipbourne Road (as opposed to the Hildenborough Rd or the Hadlow Rd).

If it helps there are numerous pubs along the walking route.
  • Pubs you say...mmm maybe i won't bother with the cab
  • get the number 218 or 219 and tell the driver you are going to the pinicales, he will tell you when to get off?

You pass at least six or seven pubs between the station and the ground - the Humphrey Bean is a Wetherspoons pub, The Castle, The Chequers, The George and Dragon, plus a couple of hotels where you can get a pint - but to be honest I would recommend drinking at the ground - there is a very decent social club where you can get v drinkable beer at reasonable prices - apart from when Dover misbehaved a little bit last year, it's a great chance to mingle and talk to other fans.

  • I live near tonbridge myself but my inlaws come under paddock wood!
6 bed house with swimming pool and stables and a carp lake.
But ur right who would want to live in that as its classed as paddock wood?
  • I'll be there tonight
  • If you think Paddock Wood is a lovely place and epitome of a kent country town, YOU need to go out more :) I'd like to see you go to Bidborough, Penshurst or Speldhurst. It'd be like you'd gone to absolute heaven. Paddock Wood is a shithole, I would rather live in south london than there tbh, probably less pikeys and chavs in south london.

Anywhodiddle, Longmead is quite a way from the station and I don't think theres any buses running there. Could be wrong, but the buses round here aren't very good. And expensive. Better off grouping together and getting a taxi.
  • I think people are getting the surrounding areas mixed up with "Paddock Wood" Kentaddick, I live just off 7 mile lane so know the area very well.
Paddock Wood is a dump but you do not have to travel far to see an improvement.

As I say, I live in Paddock Wood and find it a perfectly pleasant place to live in though I confess that most people who don't know it do tend to write if off as a '****hole' which I think is slightly unfair. It is bordered by villages of quite stunning quality such as Horsmonden, Brenchley, Matfield and Laddingford though - even in these rural idylls you'll still find many of our travelling friends as you will in those other places you mention. But we digress..........roll on Angels v Addicks!

  • That's because tunbridge wells is a proper shit hole full of toffs!

Are you serious? I wouldn't describe that many towns as beautiful - but this place I would; have you been around the Common/Pantiles?

It's such a shithole that it's always full of tourists!

P.S For those with long memories, for some reason I never fully understood, some of Chelsea's most notorious headhunters came from TW (and some were proper headcases) - so it's not all toffs, either.

  • Agree i say i live tonbridge but its btween seven mile lane paddock wood and hadlow wont say any more but if you the area well then you know we dont mean paddock wood itself bang slap in middle of it but the close surrounding areas.
  • Most looking forward to seeing Cousins and Smith tonight. I hope CP is at the game.

Tonbridge is a bit sh*t, full of pounds shops but its alot nicer than alot of places I have seen up north and its pretty safe which is the main thing.
  • Tonbridge is posh. FACT

Doesnt scotty wagstaff live in tunbridge wells or born there?!

went to school in tunbridge wells but I think he lives near maidstone. Used to sometimes see him out with his girlfriend in spoons but he doesn't drink. Haven't seen him there in years come to think of it.

Lives in Leybourne next to my mates mum and dad.
  • I'l be spending 2 weeks at the in-laws in Eridge Green, between Tun Wells & Crowborough - not a bad little spot quite the contrast from the Canadian wilderness!!

Sister-in-law lives in Paddock Wood so dare say a few days there as well...was looking forward to biking/walking in the countryside without carrying bear spray but these reports of Millwall fans might force me to reconsider that :)
  • Back to the football why is the squad all warming up in macron gear?

because that's the name of the town? It was used as a holiday resort by the royals in the 18th and 19th centuries. And Queen Vic gave the town the prefix of Royal. Maybe head over to sherwood or even call some one a posh snob to their face in spoons on friday night and see where it gets you.
