  • went to Acc Stanley on loan, scored 3 in 6 then got injured.

black away kit looks good, was it as good in the flesh?
  • Yep. Went out on loan to Acc Stanley and played a few Kent and FA cup games
  • Out on loan to a L2 side, can't remember which right now...
  • Smith was class and Haynes wanted to make a statement, we looked decent in the season half but the first half was atrocious! Yann has put on about 2 stone.
  • I think ClemSnide must have been at a different game...........

1st half standouts - Bover (by a mile) Pritchard played ok, Up front BWP & Kermy linked up well (as usual) and again (as usual) BWP is suspect with 1 on 1's......As stated before Callum Harriott didn't impress too much & can see why he has fallen down the pecking order.

2ns half standouts - Smith (surprisingly) and can see him usurping Hayes (where was he ??) as back up to Kermy. Cook looked ok , but I didn't think it suited Waggy being part of a 3 man midfield. Stephens was the most impressive of the 3 (even better than JJ) but I still think Bover outshone him. Haynes looked lively and took his gioal well, Exciting last 15 mins and we could (and probably should) have had 7 or 8 !!

Good performances all round and would rate it a 7/10 - but it was only against Welling so lets not over do it, but things looking better than it did at 2.55 pm.

PS Golfie jnr counted 8 lost balls...............
  • Ok cheers. Sounds promising

So we agree on Smith and Harriot. We also agree on Cook. The only difference of opinion is on Wagstaff and that puts me at a different game?

A nice result and a morale booster even though it was 'only' Welling. Good to see Smith scoring. I (of course) wasn't there. Does it look to anyone who was there that Smith has the makings of a real player for the coming season(s) ?? .. other than the opinions expressed right above of course :-()
  • For what it is worth, my opinion of the squad players from today only:

Pope - not a lot to do but one good punched clearance.

Cousins - looked good - not in the "Jenkinson" league but can certainly see him stepping up next year.

Bover - looks good & has atouch of class but he wasn't actually that effective...has potential through

Harriet - lots of skill but not effective at all...would need to step up to make an impact

Smith - looked very good (I was surprised)...it was only Welling but well done to him

Spanish Keeper - had nothing to do so no comment

Mambo - easy game for him, hard to judge

It was only Welling and the players first run out of the season so nothing can really be garnered and the above is purely my reaction to their performances today for those who could not attend rather than any sort of long term judgement before anyone jumps on my back about any comments above being harsh (or otherwsie!).

  • Yes Lincs.
    a man who knows .. cheers M I A
  • First half was a non event. Harriot failed to take his chance. No one really stood out.

This is what I was referring to. If you didn't think Bover stood out then I thought you'd must have been watching another game.

then again, football is a game of opinions..........no need to argue over it.
  • I didn't think bover stood out
  • I didn't think bover stood out
    Certainly a lot taller!

No seriously in the first half he made a couple of sublime through balls.
  • How will cousins step up next year if we have two food right backs already?

It may be a bit boring to read through but if you have the time, I would appreciate any feedback you might have on this report I've compiled:

Never done anything at all like this before and I'm actually studying Maths at University but thought I'd use pre-season to give it a shot.

Considering he didn't play a single minute of first team football last season in L1 despite us only having one proper right back I doubt he would be stepping up into this division anyway. He seems a great prospect but I think people are expecting too much from him too soon

very good - keep it up & if you dont get anywhere with the Maths degree you could take up writing........

  • Where was Hamer today?
  • Hamer was in the crowd

  • Haynes was direct and quick and made all the difference in the second half .alarmed to see just how large Kermo has become. Looks like he needs to lose at least a stone.cook had some nice touches and looks an intelligent player who can thread a pass.a little on the small side so might struggle against a bigger and skillful defender .smith looked impressive in holding the ball up and laying it off but would surely find it tougher against better quality defenders who will nip in for interceptions and who will muscle him around much more than he found today.morrison made an horrendous error to let their guy in to hit the post otherwise we were untroubled.incidents like that reflect very badly on bwp.missing one on ones as he did again today can be forgotten when you win 4 nil but if the morro error had lead to a goal against then all his one on one misses are going to prove very costly indeed.on the whole some pleasing performances and the above is intended simply to indicate where some improvements could be made rather than writing anyone off after one pre season match
  • Has had his eyes lasered recently.
  • Hamer was in the crowd
    Cheers
  • When's are next friendly??
  • Impressed with some of the younsters in first half; Cousins, Bover an Pope although next season will be too soon for them in the Champoinship I suspect

The 4-5-1/4-3-3 in the second half was interesting and will give an option next year againsy some teams. Likely to mean BWP will miss out then though. Peter Crouch, oops sorry Michael Smith looked promising second half while Stephens ran the show
  • Hollands, Hamer, Wilson & Sullivan were all sat in the stand pre kick off as we wandered into the wrong block when looking for our seats..honest !

Had a little chat ( as you do) & welcomed Lawrie onboard .Then commented on the lovely pic in the paper recently of Daddy Hollands and family which he felt wasn't bad...However, as you'd expect , he was ribbed without mercy by his team mates for the "details" in the piece.

The game...well, as others have posted, the first half was rather "tame" although I did feel that Bover & Pritch were the most energetic of our bunch.

2nd half - different gravy. VERY impressed with Smudger Smith and with young Jordan Cook. Both constantly prominent in all things going forward , with Smith especially being difficult for the Welling boys to knock off the ball. And agree that Danny Haynes was aways looking for the ball - his goal was richly deserved for his efforts over the 45 minutes.

Haven't been to the Welling "curtain raiser" for several years as I got bored with the constant substituting but SCP made it worthwhile by putting out 2 different teams in each half. Wonder what he has learned from this afternoon's performance ? Well, I can't believe he could have failed to be impressed by those already mentioned so a minimum of 2 "new" faces to be added to the mix that is his squad. No lacklustre performances in the 22 although, much as I love the lad, I'm afraid that Waggy still frustrates me . But I'm always hopeful that he'll win me over some time soon.

Oh, and heard a conversation between 2 Welling supporters sitting behind us. " The Charlton right back- can't remember his name - was their POTY ..Well, Newcastle offered £5million for him recently and were knocked back! Must be good !"

    Indeed he is !

  • thought bover and cousins showed promise in the first half
pritchard was good but yann and bwp looked a bit flat

2nd half was like, wow! cook showed some good footwork and haynes looked a handful.

must remember it was our first game

Second half much better. Liked the formation. I saw it as more of a 4-3-2-1 when attacking and 4-5-1 when defending.

Cook and Haynes played off the very impressive Smith. Both switched from left to right and looked comfortable.

Thought Wagstaff looked at home in the centre as well.

Spanish keeper had little to do but what he did he did well.

Smith MOM for me. Linked play very well.
Good review Clem and pretty much how I saw it.
  • @callumcafc well done mate, good report.
