"Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends, we're so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside"
It maybe just the "traditional curtain raiser" (using this term is obligatory when referring to this fixture) but it means the bit we all really enjoy, the young fit blokes wearing a Charlton shirt and kicking a football stuff, is back.
Rewind 12 months and this game was spent asking "who's that one?" as 18 or so of Powell's new signings plus a couple of trialists appeared for the first time. Green scored a long range cracker, Morrison looked solid and Williams scored a goal.
This year will be less exciting in the "I know who that is" stakes. Wilson and Cook are likely to play some part while there are rumours of a Spanish keeper being on trial. Otherwise the big exciting new sighting will be the rather fetching black away kit.
Sir Chris has said he will field two totally different teams in each half so expect a slow and disjointed performance with the 8 or so newly signed youngsters being the only ones busting a gut to impress.
Prediction. 4 - 0 to the Addicks with Izele McLeod scoring twice to spark huge rows on CL as to whether the "only here to get fit striker" is worthy of another chance. Nah, calm down, only joking, its been a long summer.

With Wilson and Cook we now have two senior players for each position (except CB), I wouldn't expect more than 2/3 youngsters to be involved.
Apparent off-field problems/uncertainty can show on the pitch as we saw when we got relegated from the championship.
