The one man who has ALL the answers is of course keeping as quiet as a church mouse.....how incredibley frustrating for both himself and all of us....oh to be a fly on the wall at The Valley right now! Knowing him, he will simply go on doing what is best for The Addicks (for the short time he has left), and in fact it's quite likely with considerable difficulty.......... just as he has done for many a year.
Very good post, and I say that as somebody you might have in mind when you used the word 'irresponsible'. I don't regret anything I have posted, save for one detail I quickly edited, but it's still a sharp and useful reminder to always keep a sense of proportion, overview, and an eye on the longer term.
Prague wasnt saying irresponsible of you or any of the people who posted....i meant those at the club who have leaked inside info to mates without telling them to keep it to themselves probably should have kept quiet or broke it to a wider audience of Charlton supporters if the news is so serious to be catastrophic for the club.
The way it is is a state of limbo. People ITK know the facts while those of us who dont just speculate and ridiculously expect the club to make statement about rumours that havent come from them.
So it appears in many people's eyes that PV is the hero, fighting for what is right, the only voice of reason in the boardroom. A charlton man. However let's not forget his involvement in some of the worst decision making in our recent history as well, as well as the good times. Perspective. It seems that over the last week emotions have run high and many here are so quick to judge the new regime. PV was part of it but the indications are that he was not central to the new direction in which we are heading. I think we need to stop this PV hero worshipping like he has single handedly saved our club. He hasn't. A good man, a talented leader at times - but like all of us prone to errors of judgement. Let's give Mr Slater some of this respect and get behind the new board.

Destined to spent eternity fighting relegation from this league.
I just don't buy that. Over 100 points in League One with a fantastic defence and very good young goalkeeper. A team who played as a unit, digging in together and fighting with a decent record in front of goal. If we made no additions at all in the Championship I'd have us down as just above mid-table but short of a play off spot. If we strengthen up front and make a solid signing or two in the middle, maybe good squad players, we can kick on in my opinion. On paper nobody can tell me that Reading were the best side in this division last season up against West Ham and Leicester's money but it doesn't work out like that.
In my opinion many are underestimating the Championship. We need strengthening in a few areas, but equally important is keeping what we've got (See Kermogant-New Contract Post)
My opinion is that many are overestimating it - of course it will be tougher but we have good players!

Interesting Muttley. Somewhere in the middle myself. Reckon we would stay up with little transfer activity, but we want more than that don't we?
I think he is right in that the team put together last season was done with the championship in mind. A good many if we had signed them this summer for the coming season I would be excited. We do need some new faces but it's not all doom at the moment
I think we need to stop this PV hero worshipping like he has single handedly saved our club.
Well he did bring Jimenez and Slater to us.Some mixed emotions at the moment as to whether that was a smart move. In fairness to him it was probably the only move.
Well IMHO for what it's worth we won't be getting out of the Championship without signing at least three or four good quality championship standard players and even that won't give us any more than a shout at the playoffs. If our five year plan exists then we will have to spend At some point but if it takes two or three seasons to acquire a squad capable of challenging then I will be more than happy with that. If I could choose one position to get that quality in now it would be central midfield.

Agree with this. At this stage I am just happy to be back in the Championship and for us to get stronger/better over the next 2/3 seasons before looking at promotion.
I thought the statement might say: 'We have tracked down the club employees who have leaked information to the Charlton Life clique, and be assured those loose tongued individuals are being sacked on the spot for gross misconduct' ..or something like that.

As Monsignor Incorruptible, a humble priest in the service of the sainted Pope Chris, whom we venerate as vicar on earth to the righteous God that is Curbs , I say sacking - even with cloth and ashes - is too easy, gentle Seth. They shall learn the entire offending CL thread by rote and repeat it daily like a million 'hail Marys' as they are cast out unblessed , to live forever in damnation in the New Den of the evil Lions, from whose website the contagion of this wicked message did first come.
Richard Cawley is a wonderful, professional and highly ethical journalist I am sure but perhaps he could have asked a few more incisive questions such as why did Peter Varney and Alex Newell leave or what is the relationship between Chris Powell and Tony Jimenez like?
He most likely won't have got very full answers but all the same.
The nature of the relationship between Chris Powell and Jimenez is critical. If that's not good it's likely to be far more significant than any minor tensions at Board level.
I think our team is already capable of surviving in League One, and Chris Powell always said it was about establishing ourselves back in League One. We aren't a Norwich, with 25,000 season ticket holders, or a Southampton with a big budget, so there's no reason why we should be seeking promotion immediately.
Anyway, after 3 years of playing Hartlepool, Yeovil & Tranmere with a half empty Valley, can't we all just be pleased to be in the Championship? This team should be capable of finishing above Barnsley, Millwall, Peterborough and a few others as it stands now.

Yes we got 100 points last season, yes the team worked well as a unit, yes Chris did an allround great job.......but. Slaters statement just adds fuel to the fire that something is not quite right and we do need 3-4 good quality additions. Teams in our division are adding to their squads with quality players, look at Brighton, how can Brighton pull off a deal for Wayne Bridge and we are not at the races. We need to make moves soon and pull a deal off from somewhere to stop the 'gossip' but mostly because at the moment i fear for us next season without a few quality names added.

'Marquee' is probably the wrong word, but Baldock is a decent striker who wouldn't come cheap

Could it be we're going to try to live within our means?
