Feel so bad for Cardiff City fans, of which one of my closest friends is one. The worst thing about the change of colour is that's it's after a survey re the most successful clubs play in red & nothing to do with appealing to an Asian market FACT. My mate would never buy a red shirt even with a red dragon on it. And the Cardiff Blues fans hated the new stadium, they were never gonna stay, so that also had nothing to do with it. And we moan about an off red shirt with a bit of naff advertising. We don't know how lucky we are guys. Long live the Bluebirds!
Can't remember to many cardiff fans complaining about the money the club has spent on players in the last few years. The only reason they have been able to compete at the top of the championship is the various owners they've had. You can't have it both ways. Personally if cafc started spending money the club itself could not generate then I would be deeply concerned. More to the point the club would cease to be the charlton I connected with. Changing the colour of a shirt is nothing because a clubs identity changes with finances. Might as well change the name of a club and give supporters a choice of following the money or setting up a new club in the non-league.
I've got no idea why changing the shirt colour and nickname would suddenly make all the Malaysian football fans stop supporting Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal and support them instead. Similarly, it doesn't seem that the whole of India now supports Blackburn Rovers after the Venkys took them over...
Of course teams have changed their colours and nicknames before, thinking of Leeds Utd changing their shirts to White (after Real Madrid) and a certain small South London clubs becoming the Eagles...
Wasn't there a rumour (in VOTV or somewhere) many years ago that someone in Greenwich council wanted us to change our name to reflect the borough of Greenwich more?
Agree - Venky's are a lauging stock here. As they should be - took an established premier league club and destroyed it with bad decisions. Absolutely clueless.
And why would any Indian/asian fans support a club just because an Indian owns it? The reason people support manu/arsenal/chelsea/liverpool is because those are the only clubs they know of, and there are no local teams to support if you like watching the game.
The whole rebranding thing is bizarre though and seems like it was thought up by a 5 yr old. In any case I would think that losing the club's traditions would only put fans off irrespective of where they are! Would any asian supporter want to see a liverpool without anfield/the crest/ynwa etc? I think not.

Hmmmmmm really how long you been following us a year !!!
A change of shirt and ownership could bring a change of fortune to a club which has started to struggle over the past few seasons. The new Ipswich. Always thereabouts, never quite 'there'. Having seen a photo of Mr Tan the new owner, he looks like a dodgy Kuala Lumpur spiv, which is probably what he is.

There is an obvious lack if understanding of a brand and brand values. the owners are also relying on the strength of customer loyalty in Football. In many ways this is similar to Charlton leaving the Valley. The ground, shirt and the the history is what makes up a club - players, owners and boards do not feature in the things that make a fan loyal and whilst clubs have moved grounds they have always retained their identity. Moving away from the colours and the badge are major transgfressions away from features that fans have emotional investment in. I notice as a sop to the existing fans the Bluebird continues on the badge - how many years till that goes through an overhaul and the Bluebird is a dead bird.

Not many I suspect, because it looks really out of place.
It won't take them long at all though to have a prettier badge that completely eradicates their history and tradition.

Or the current owners run out of money or get fed up (after missing out on promotion several times) and sell out to a local Cardiff consortium, who promise to bring back the traditional colours and badge...

I'm not sure why but Hamburg is a blue, black and white club (stadium, fans, branding etc) but they play in white and red with barely a hint of blue. The fans wear blue.
They seem to get on with it although there may be a lot more behind the reasons.
Quick wiki search, the red and white is the Hamburg city colours, the badge honours the club Germania, who were the oldest club in the three that merged together to form what is now known as HSV.

Thanks, although I still find it strange/interesting that you won't get a dozen fans out of 55,000 wearing a replica shirt of what the team on the pitch is wearing. My point is Cardiff fans could carry on wearing blue and sod what their actual team wears! Maybe it's not that big a deal?
If I were a Cardiff fan I'd be looking to boycott anything to do with the new branding. There could be a commercial opportunity to mass produce replica shirts in blue with a badge that doesn't impact on the Cardiff TM badge.
If Puma were on the ball, then they would produce about 5,000 home shirts (as there will still be people who buy it because they buy every kit) and 20,000 away kits
Our badge has changed in the past , although our colour I believe hasn't although I do seem to recall pictures of us in prodominately white with a red section on the top shoulder and chest area
We had a blue home hit in 1923 which was briefly re-introduced in an away kit as "Seahawk and Denim" around the time of the centenary. I bet it wasn't called Seahawk and Denim in 1923.
Keeping the same colour shirt and badge of a club allows the fans to pretend they are still supporting the same club. The reality is they are not. So why not get rid of all pretence and call it what it is. The real man city did not win the league this year. They are some other entity entirely. The same goes for chelsea and any other club where expenditure doesn't come close to income generated.
With this new type of owner comes new badges, shirts, stadiums, players and managers. The only thing left is the original fan base and they can slowly be replaced with the prawn brigade.
For those cardiff fans who are moaning I have genuine sympathy but the reality is it hasn't been their club for a few years. They have a choice. 1, Support the new cardiff, glory in the results but accept the changes in identity. 2, Sit back and wait for the money to run out to reclaim the old club 3, Start up afc cardiff.
To simply accept the money and results (which would not have come their way naturally without investment) but baulk at identity changes is deluded and hypocritical.
I would rather support charlton as a mid table championship side than join the money merry go round. I like the badge, shirt, players and history we have. I feel connected to it and it is part of me.

I expect you to be setting up an AFC Charlton then when we sign Neymar for £65million in 3 years time!
In all seriousness why not boycott the red kit (whilst buying the blue away kit) and sell/distribute a sow on badge to go over the new one, nice little protest that doesn't stop them going to the matches but hits the purse strings a little, plus I imagine they could still sing come on you blues and and any bluebirds songs etc?

Will see how I feel at the time.(If I could do the funny face emoticon it would go here). My point is you either go with the flow or you don't.

I can't see what wrong with accepting the money (it's not as if there's any choice), but still campaigning for the traditions of the club to be upheld.

Think it's an outrageous thing to do
Thankfully we learnt that lesson and never deviated from red and white again. Unfortunatley we didn't learn the part about changing grounds.
As for a club changing colours a lot check out the Palace page of Historical kits. Mind blowing.
