  • What an amazing day. The best game I've ever been to. Emotion, Passion, Drama, Happiness and even the trophy to top it all off!!! Well done to everyone there.

It's what it is all about...
  • wow, just wow!

Before a ball was kicked 'Stand up for the champions' was belted out and the WHOLE crowd, nigh on 27 thousand were up and singing it, sent shivers down the spine, and was one a many moments that put a lump in my throat.

The crowd, and not just the Covered end, all played there part, it was electric!! I looked around me at times, and there was just a sea of smiling happy people!

It was my first trip to the Valley this season and to see it full was fantastic. As for the atmosphere i didn't really manage to enjoy it to the full as i was down the front of the east stand. When the 'stand up for the champions' went up five minutes in, the bloke behind me with his teenage boys shouted me to sit down, much to my annoyance. The same bloke's son asked him if there was going to be extra time, then the three of them left with 15 minutes to go. and 3 18 year olds next to them were engaged in a conversation about the size of 'their' clubs ground being 50,000. unfortunately nobody near me sang or even shouted hardly at all. i could hear the north stand in full voice and a bunch to my left in the jimmy seed, giving it some, but near me it was like a morgue. my mum rang me with 10 munites to go and asked if the game had finished as it was so quiet. i think that the ticket promotion attracted a lot of people that weren't that bothered whether we won, drew, lost or even scored. thsat said, maybe some will return and grow into being fans rather than just spectators.

it was a great day result wise and the goals were a telling sign that the team really wanted the win. hartlepool played their part on and off the pitch and the after match celebrations were a joy to see.

the valley flloyd road soprano prior to the match made my eyes water a bit and the red devils were a nice touch to add a bit of glamour and sense of occasion.

as for the game i felt we worked hard first half without any luck on the ball, but second half the same endeavor paid off. hartlepool's second was enough to made it an exciting finish. 101 points is awesome, 51 home and 50 away. what a season.

well done to all at the club for the whole event. i'm looking forward to next season already.

Chris Powell you have are my hero and always will be for what you have achieved. i don't mean success, i mean the restoration of pride in our club.
  • My son said it was the best day of his life.

    Ahh, bless.
funny that - my 8yr old son said is was the second best day of his life - on questioning him on what, in his short life, has been his best day, he answered "the day I was born"

    no answer to that !!!

  • I was in the West Stand and had a wonderful day. It was really special.
  • 101 points -----------------------101 points FFS we wont see it again--------------its that big. When the final whistle went i just felt pride------------101 points.

In45+ years of going we have only won 3 things--- its why i have total contempt for the glory boys ---------how can they feel as good as i did Saturday night ? they come seldom for us at CAFC --------thats why we enjoy it----------God only knows what the Lib would have looked like if it had stayed open till 11PM
  • Well - just coming down from the high of Saturday, and felt inspired to join this forum. First attended the Valley in 1965, but never experienced a day like 5th May 2012. It was perfect, from the Red Devils, magnificent opera singers, presentation, post match celebrations, smurfs and managing to sneak a victory. For my daughter, it was her first ever visit - hope she doesn't think all matches are like that one.
    Nice one - and welcome!
Welcome Blond Bobby and don't trust Off_it! If he's being nice he wants something :-)
    Just happy Len, just happy.
  • Prince-e-paul, when 'stand up for the champions' was sung, I made a point of slowly scanning the stadium, and from where I stood, it looked to me like everyone where on there feet. It's a shame you had the people you had around you, I hope it didn't spoil your day to much mate.

Very true GH. These things don't happen often. Went to dinner at a friend's on Sunday who "follows" Chelsea. He barely mentioned that they'd just won the bleedin FA Cup, but was at least genuinely pleased for me.

101 points is truly remarkable and amid all the celebration I desperately wanted to top 100. We finished a season where two big clubs pushed us very hard for a long time with 6 wins and a draw. No wonder they both (all) fell away. I too will be very very proud of those players for a very ling time.

  • We're the 9th club to have achieved 100 points since 3 points for a win, that is some achievement

Agree, Rothko ...... it doesn't happen every season, only 9 clubs in all divisions in 30 years.

    Great achievement.

  • I had the worst hangover in my life on Sunday. I can say now that it was worth it. Had a quick flick through this thread, and obviously Yann deserves every plaudit going, whether or not he actually 'meant' that goal, but I also thought Hollands' volley of an equalizer was sublime.
  • A day to remember forever!! Loved every minute of it and well worth the trip from Holland.
I love this club soooooooooo much.
Seen the bad times and the good times. BIG congrats to the Covered End for the atmosphere you all created.
  • I ended up going to The Venue in New Cross with a big group of mates to celebrate. Bumped into loads of Charlton fans randomly in there too. Got home about 4.30AM in the morning and Sunday was spent recovering and reminiscing after a glorious day!
  • if we dig up some stats on the number of games we have won/lost with Pritchard involved, it will make interesting reading.
I was very impressed with Pritchard on Sat - should have a good future if he can adjust to the next level.
  • It was a very proud day for all on Sat and what a great song after we hit the third and wonder goal - "that's why we'ere Champions, that's why we're Champions".
I went to the loo 5 mins before half time to avoid the rush and missed the Hartlepool goal. I went to the loo 5 mins before full time - and missed the 2nd Hartlepool goal! I never usually have to use the loo during the game - must have been all the excitement.
Charlton Athletic is a GREAT CLUB and let's hope Toni Jimenez and his backers continue to provide the funding required to put us back in the top tier.
Three great Charlton goals on Saturday, topped by Kermo's wonder strike. Haynes' header was like a bullet - think he'll do well next year as he has a point to prove. He's very quick, very strong, has a good head .........
