Players that showed so much promise that really didnt make it!

Apologies if this topic already exists. Ramdomly looked up Osei Sankofa on Wiki to see how he was getting on and was shocked to see he is now playing for Boreham Wood in the conference south. Cant believe its the same guy who played against Man U in the prem only a few years ago. Got me trying to thinking of other players who showed alot of promise, James Walker who some fans were tipping as the next darren bent is now playing for Dover Athletic. Is there any others?

  • Ben Odeji...........now there's one from cobweb corner.
  • Tamer Tuna
  • Yassin Moutaouakil, Aswad Thomas and Tamer Tuna I thought would make it
  • this one will run and run .. there are just SOOOOOOO many

Only game v Mansfield in League Cup. Remember in the warm up before the game he tried flicking the ball backwards onto his back letting it roll down his neck. I was well impressed as you never saw such fancy dannery in those days. Maybe thats why he was never seen again.
  • Jamie Martin - one of the best young strikers I've seen in our colours. Apparently went off the rails. Mark Ricketts always seemed a decent ball playing CH who wasn't slow. James Walker was one who might have made a better living as a footballer had he not decided he was a striker. He was a decent player but not prolific upfront.
  • campbell ryce, charlie mcdonald, and someone remind me of the name of the next scott parker, was going out with the girl from girls aloud for a while????
  • Mark Tivey saw him score an amazing goal for the reserves one night in Welling.

The Van Nguyen or whatever that Vietnamese bloke was called.

He was hyped to be the next big thing as I remember.
  • I saw Grant Basey a couple of times when he came into the first team and he looked very solid, but he's ended up wandering around Barnet & Wycombe.

Thanks thats the fella, was driving me nuts thinking of that name.
  • Stacy Long ?
  • neil mcafferty and anthony allman are great shouts. Mark Ricketts was another, didn't we keep hold of him and sell michael turner instead?
  • Kevin Lisbie
  • Adam Tanner.
Was in the year above me at school. Scored a penalty against us for Ipswich in the mid 90's and was tipped for greater things, but then went off the rails.
Got kicked out of Ipswich for cocaine use and then kicked out of Colchester for drink driving.

  • Scott Parker could have ended up in this category if he didn't go out on loan to Norwich. He truly came back a guy determined to knuckle it down and get going. The transformation was immediate. A lucky escape IMHO.
  • Who's the kid who went on loan to Inter Milan ? Winger I think...
  • paul murrey i think was anorthern ireland lad see him in a few reserve games at selhurst
  • I think all these players eventually find their natural level. Sometimes they are simply not as good as we hope they will be. Lisbie and macdonald have both had decent careers. Walker was unlucky as he has had health issues.
  • Moutaouakil , Youga and Simon Walton spring to mind as players I thought would be very good for us.
  • chris dickson i thought would be the next bent
  • Jermaine Darlington
    Peter Evans
    Richmond Donker
    Nathan Amato
    Rossi Franco
  • Darlington and Youga are good shouts.

    I'd add Kyle Reid
