Leicester fan in peace

Hi folks, first of all MASSIVE congratulations on promotion. We look forward to seeing you next season.
Far too big a club to be down there!
Special mention to Chris Powell, he was a classed as a legend at Leicester and he played nowhere near as much as he did for you guys but just proves what a great genuine guy he is. One of the nicest guys in football and deserves the success. Even as a coach for us, he was inspirational all the time!

Also how are our ex players doing? Michael Morrison, Yann Kermogant and Danny N'Guessan??

    Thanks Chris.

I think you can safely say that MM and Yann are two of our top four players this season and DNG has had an immediate impact in terms of crucial goals.

See you next season (unless you pull something special off!)
  • Thanks for the congrats! Yann is awesome, by far best signing of the season and on his way to being a charlton legend. Morrison is quality, another one of our best players.

    Looking forward to next season!
  • Well i rated all 3 but particularly Morrison. Not sure why we ever sold him! Think Sven just wanted bigger names which has got us nowhere!
N'Guessan was very hit and miss and i suppose you know all about Yann's antics.... his ridiculous penalty that potentially cost us promotion although had started to look a good player
  • Morro has been excellent, played in every league game I think, DNG again has been very good scored some vital goals. But the main man is Yann, he has been superb all season, a fantastic bit of business by Powell, we dont let him take the pens though! ;o)
  • Cannot speak highly enough of morrison and yann top players!
  • Thanks for that. My Dad is from Leicester and is a big fan, so Leicester are pretty much my second (by a long way) club. I was hoping for them to get playoffs this season and promotion but looking less and less likely... Can't wait to see Charlton v Leicester and the away fixture next season though, going to be the highlight of my year, especially if Charlton get 6 points (purely for the look on my dad's face as he has 2 sons that are both season ticket holders at Charlton)
  • You guys could well do a Norwich/Southampton and push for promotion again!
No doubt Yann will score against us.
Morrison and DNG will get good receptions as neither did alot wrong
  • The day Yann walked through the door we went from being promotion hopefuls to red-hot favourites ( he says with the benefit of hindsight). I think it is difficult to exaggerate the impact he has had on the team

I was watching the playoff semi with my dad. That Yann penalty was absolutely disgusting. The ironic thing is that if he had scored that penalty he probably would have stayed at Leicester, and I know a few people might disagree with me when I say this, but he has definitely secured us a fair few points this season (as have others) and I am not sure we would be in the position we are today if it wasn't for Yann and his penalty miss haha.
  • well lets just say there was a noticable difference when we played hudders away and kermo wasnt there

I would take Schlupp on a free :-)

Schlupp hopefully will be going nowhere!!

We've got a few players we need to get rid of but half of them are on big wages.
    Too many ego's!

Wait and see, I have heard Schlupp wants to join a "big" club :-)
  • We'll take Morrison back though and swap Yann for Steve Howard!!!?
  • Cheers Chris

As others have said Yann is indeed the man. He has been a swashbuckling talisman for our season
  • Kermorgant has scored some important goals this season in the words of bwp he is a beast. Morrison has been solid at the back all Season along with Taylor Solly and wiggins.
  • Do you think Yann will get a bad reception then?
  • Just dont let him take a pen at Leicester!

  • In some ways I hope he does because he'll play a blinder. He is absolute quality
  • There were a few Leicester City links in the past - Len Glover went from Charlton to Leicester (but he still stays on our forum) and Ian King and Colin Appleton joined Charlton. Malcolm Partridge came on loan from Leicester as well a little later.

I think I am right in saying Gary Rowett came from Leicester too.
  • Just dont let him take a pen at Leicester!
I'd say the reverse actually, if ever a bloke wanted to show what he could do and all that!

In all seriousness Chris, Morrison has been a beast of a defender this year helped by the fact he's played in a very settled and very good defence. The stats don't lie and I would imagine he's close to being first on the team sheet each week.

Yann probably is the first name on the team sheet...

Not just you guys SW also sold him on - barely six months and a few games after signing him. As others have said Morrison has been immense, he's scored a few goals and has been as far as I can remember an ever present. How did he go through two teams so quickly without either seeing in him what we have witnessed this season? As the cliche goes football is about opinions - but there must have been something in the water that made two sets of managers and coaching staffs sign him and then quickly discard him.

Kermorgant has been a class above most players I've seen in this league, goals, assists and he's taken a battering as many teams have adopted a physical approach to man marking him. No matter how many kicks he's taken he's got up and gotten the job done. Very professional and I've no doubt he can be a success in the CCC.

Too soon to say about Dany N'Guessan, he hasn't looked match fit since he joined us and has played on the left and right and through the middle, but he's contributed three goals and could be another gem.
  • Surprised nobody has mentioned Paul Konchesky here. How is he doing for you Chris?

Following on from the Yann comments, he quite simply is the most effective player I think I've ever seen in a Charlton team. If he keeps it up for another season or two with us then I have no doubt he will go into that same legend category as the likes of Brown, Robinson, Rufus, Mendonca etc.
  • I think Yann would get booed purely because of THAT penalty, it was a disgrace considering the importance of it.
Unfortunately fans dont forget these things plus he only scored 1 goal for us in over 20 games. You could see he had class, just needed more time to settle in England. Plus he was a Pearson signing then he left! Sven actually played him this last pre season where he scored and looked good but then sold him! Strange. Mind you Sven sold Jack Hobbs and Morrison when they'd done nothing wrong so not good!

N'guessan by the way has immense power and good pace but sometimes looks like a Sunday player. Other times he looks unplayable! Another play that never got a chance after Pearson left

    Can we buy Johnnie Jackson?

Paul Konchesky has been superb. He is in our top 3 players this season without doubt. Mr consistent and a certain starter next season. Is a good all rounder and defo a top end Championship left back at least

  • Just as some Leicester fans might boo Yann, I've a feeling that Kochesky will get a less than warm welcome if/when he returns to the Valley. He made it no secret that he saw his career elsewhere after Curbs decided that he better suited to playing left midfield rather than LB but he has worked hard on his game and made himself into an effective player. His problem was never work rate but poor positional sense that allowed a winger to go past him. I think we last saw him when we beat West Ham 4-0 in our relegation season and true to form he got turned inside out for one of the goals.

I cant comment on his past really other than the fact he was NEVER good enough for Liverpool and since he's been here, he's been excellent. 110% every game and fans favourite.

On new players, Darius Vassell would be a good bet btw.
He's out of contract this summer and dont think Pearson will keep him. I certainly would but he'll want younger players in

SCP and Vassell were in the same England squad, so wouldnt rule it out, although i hope we go for someone better and younger!!
