I find it ironic (if that's the right word) that many of those who abandoned the team at half time are the self same people who moan about fans not standing etc.
Sorry Len, but how on earth would you know that?
You seem to have a massive chip on your shoulder about something with your posts these days and I can't for the life of me work out why.
Because when you've been a season ticket holder in the same place for the best part of a decade you get to know faces and voices. There are few blokes who moan when some of us dont always "stand up if you love Charlton" and the like yet had it on their toes like Usain Bolt when the team actually needed some support.
No chips on these shoulders, I prefer them in my mouth or stomach, but rather a Desmond Morris like observation of human behaviour in the football ground.
Have never left a game early - maybe I'm just a masochist. Worst game I can remember in recent seasons was the away game against Blackpool when it seemed like most of our support had left well before the end. It was hard not to laugh at the way we played in the first 45 on Saturday.
2 of ours left and went back to the Cons at half time. I left with a min of the added time to go. They pay their money (and have done for donkeys years) its up to them if they want to leave stay etc.
"disloyal ????" my arse they were there in Woolwich town hall--the clearing of the Valley and at Shithouse park.
For those who did leave early - how much football did you see in the previous disastrous seasons?
Season ticket throughout and 5-20 (overall ave. 12 I'd say) away games a season including when i lived in Spain for a year.
I actually meant in terms of minutes - if you felt compelled to leave early on Saturday then you must have left a lot of games early last year? I have left games early before (but probably not more than ten minutes before the end) and that certainly wasn't the worst perfomance I've seen of late.
We all deal with things differently and I 'm sure leaving early entered the minds of a few who decided to stay. It certainly did mine. Had we conceded a 5th I would have definitely been on my way, but we upped the tempo and really had a go in the second half and we always had a chance of getting back after our 2 goals and nobody was going to leave then. I may have been more inclined to leave if we were not top - but even at 4 down I thought we had a slight chance. In the end a poor decision by the linesman, cost us I think a point or even 3 and the 2nd half was much better. However, If it hurts you too much to watch anymore- it is undersatndable, it certainly doesn't mean you are any less of a fan - we are all different!

Off the top of my head in the seasons since and including our PL relegation season, I have left the following games with say 20-30 minutes to go - Millwall away, Blackpool away; and the following with less than 10 - Wolves away, Dagenham away, Brighton home.
Oh I also left West Brom away in the cup DURING the penalty shoot-out as I would've missed my last train home.
Still a strange thing to do IMHO....they missed a much improved performance from us in the second half, one which would have gone a long way to restoring their belief in us as champions elect.
Watching football should be a pleasure. If you aren't finding it pleasurable, then there's no compulsion to stay. If you'd rather go home, go to the pub or stand at the end of platform 2 with a notebook and a flask of weak lemon drink, then that is a matter for you and no-one else. People support Charlton because they want to and they should support the team in whichever way they see fit. As others have said, you pays your money and takes your choice. That said, some people seem to be almost permanently on the edge of unhappiness with the team and I wonder why they ever go at all. And wasn't the atmosphere better in the second half? There is a joke that the quickest way to improve morale at work is to sack all the unhappy people; its the same thing in a football crowd, except that you have to wait for the unhappy people to sack themselves.
As for me, I would never consider leaving early. You never know what's going to happen. When we got our second, I genuinely thought (for about 5 minutes) that we might pull it around and get a draw - or even a win. It wasn't to be, but it might one day and I don't want to be kicking myself for missing it. Also it doesn't suit my belief that you get more pleasure out of the good times, if you've stuck with something through the bad times. Finally, as I've told my kids when they were younger, seeing a match through to the end is character building.
Quite a few left early at Bournemouth, we all know what happened there. I've no problems with people leaving early (10mins or so), if its the type of game that is gonna end in stalemate, or we are 4 up or 4 down, I dont get leaving at half time, surely as a supporter you have to give them 20 mins of the second half to see what happens. In the second half we saw Charlton get stuck in, the atmosphere was very good, we scored two good goals, and but for a crap decision by the ref should have had a stonewall pen.
I remember going Watford away many years ago on my own! it was cold and wet and we were 4-0 down at half time. I arrived home just in time to see final score! 40 years a supporter. Sometimes for whatever ever reason you have just had enough
I'd never leave early, but it's each to their own I guess. I was in the home support for Millwall away at the Den, so had to endure the 4-0 drubbing and them cheering. Now that was bad!!!!
Just wondering, did anyone leave early when we played Swindon in the first year down here in League One? Down to 9 men? That's the reason I wouldn't leave.... you never know what could happen. Llera chipping the keeper in added time to gain a point with 9 men.
I was there till the final whistle, yes it was a bad day at the office and people have the right to leave or stay it is what it is - their choice. ultimately as long as everyone don't leave it's all good right! that would be very embarassing!
Two different people came up to me last night and asked if I left at half time, one a Chelsea fan and one Arsenal. They thought it very strange given the season we've had. For the record, I've never left a game before the final whistle.

But I'm ancient.

Do I get a gold star?
sorry - just how i felt! thoes that left at half time, pay the same as the rest, what they do is up to them i suppose though!
And nor would it ever.
