I agree with feesh - give the current first team squad a go - bring a few in of course, but play it by ear, see who is available and decide whether they might have the potential to improve us at the time. A specific list won't work.
I think we will only add a few players. It makes sense, the board aren't expecting instant back to back promotions to the premier league, I think next season will be about seeing who's good enough for that level, then maybe start to bring in a few promising players who could cut it at a push in the premier league.
I'd imagine 7-8 will be let go and we'll replace with 7-8 also.
I'd like to see us go after Rhodes, Schlupp, the ginger winger from Sheff Utd and a couple of Premiership loans (Jonjo would be different gwavy in the Championship next year).
We need another GK (experience to back up Hamer), a right back, centre half, centre midfielder too.
I admit to knowing nothing about them apart from what I have read here but could be of interest perhaps.
Looks like Wylde is going Blackpool or Southampton. Left sided player with a very good cross.
Yep agree Wylde looks like a good prospect, would be worth competing for him, but wouldn't pay more than say £2-3k p/w and I'd imagine Saints could beat that. Celik didn't really get a chance.
Jonjo definitely not, does not fit in a 4-4-2. He worked at Blackpool because Ollie loves to attack, and he plays three up front, consequently having lot's of players in between the oppos defence and mifield. We do not do that.
Bring in cover for left and right wing, maybe decent cover for right wing so that if Green doesn't step it up. A forward as I don't think Euell or Clarke will hack the Championship. Think the back four will do fine to be honest.
A quick winger is exactly what we need. Both jackson and green are far too slow to trouble oppositions right backs and left backs.
Quick wingers are ten a penny in the lower leagues, but most of them are shit. Look at Kyel Reid. Being fast isn't enough, you need game intelligence, positioning and defensive skills as well as all the attacking attributes.
I think it's almost certain we'll sign a left winger over the summer. Maybe Wordsworth from last night is worth a look.
Yeah I agree with that. Just feel we need a good winger to come off the bench at least, you could say wagstaff but he is very hit and miss
On another note not sure if it has been mentioned but I definetly liked the look of the big centre back that colchester had. Okongehuen? Heard we were linked with him in the summer and is out of contract in the summer. Looked very very solid.
I think we could strengthen the squad by pinching the top players from League One, it worked for Norwich that's for sure. Obviously not Rhodes as he's out of our budget but little gems that have gone under the radar slightly. Example, Norwich picked up Elliott bennett from Brighton, very tricky player.
It's a long shot but Johnny Russell from Dundee would be a quality signing.... If FIFA 12's anything to go by
Haha I could draw you up a list as long as my arm if FIFA's anything to go by! Little nipper that Johnny Russel ay?
I'd like to see an attacking midfielder (preferably who can play both in the middle and on the wings), with a a lot of pace and nice close control. Would definitely help create a lot and bring a new sense of fluidity to the play.
I agree Norfolk. I have also hated Green's winner against Exeter, his winner against Yeovil, his assist for the winner against Bournemouth, his three assists against Chesterfield. I could go on but I think that's all your comment really deserves. Good to know you're thinking rationally about next season though
Release Green on a free was clearly a joke but IMO he is the weak link and a right midfielder should be priority. Atm Wagstaff isn't getting a look in and it seems Powell would rather play Pritchard on the right who is also not good in that position.
I don't think he's the weak link. I think in a team 13 points clear at the top of the league there can't be a real weak link. He's a L1 winger. If he got all his crosses bang on target, every long shot went in and always beat his man he'd be Leo Messi. It's no accident the two best players in the world are wingers - being able to consistently pull off the moments of magic changes the face of a game. Being able to do it occasionally makes you anywhere between Premiership and L1. It took Stewart Downing until the Carling Cup final to have a decent game. While Green hasn't set the world alight I really don't see many players out there who could realistically do a better job than Green. I'll take the 6 points we wouldn't have won without him, and that's ignoring any other contribution he's made this season. It's easy to pick on a winger

Maybe another Centre Midfielder for cover or if the others can't take the step up.
It also depends on if we sell anyone which I hope we don't.

In CP we trust!
lol
Good goal though.

His weaknesses are his decision making, awareness, anything defensive, lack of real pace.
That's not to say Wagstaff is the answer, but of course there are weaker players who are less likely to step up if/when we get promoted.
Anyway the assist v Bournemouth was Haynes' ;-)
