We very rarely look like conceding. We are watching a championship defensive unit right there. I would have reservations about some of the attacking options if we do manage to go up this year.
Won't name names though.....Doesn't seem to be the Charlton thing to do anymore! ;-)
Spot on Carly, our defence is Chapionship standard, our midfield is almost there but our attack is very weak, as AFKA has stated 1 x goal by our forwards in 20 collective games is poor and that would get us relegated back down again so it needs to be addressed for next season
Not being funny, love the guy, but Kermit does not link up with people very well, especially BWP. Its a concern. We play it around alot though, allows other people to get in scoring positions as well as the strikers.
BWP was unlucky tonight, didnt notice Kermit much.
Balanced game tonight. One we were 2-0 up against 10 men, we was always going to just sit back and break up there moves. Clever, but boring.
We have dropped MKDons and on the verge of dropping Wednesday and Huddersfield. If we win our games in hand over Wednesday we will be 16 points ahead with 15 games to play. Happy days.
I think Powell made a mistake in trying to completely take the sting out of the game with 45 to go but we did what was required. A lot of people around me were getting annoyed that we kept playing back to Hamer, but at 2-0 up against 10 men there wasn't any real threat. I don't think MK outplayed us today, but I do think our performance seems worse than it was due to our complete lack of ambition in the second half and I think people should keep that in mind. The extreme we went to to keep the lead wasn't all too entertaining but I think if we'd gone in at 1-0 up or even 0-0 we still would have had this one. With our defence and some of the moves we string together I think we're just to good for other passing teams. It's the cloggers and spoilers that worry me

We've seen when the midfield (and full backs) create BWP and Yann score goals.
Think you're being harsh on the strikers there and kind to the midfield.
I just knew people would be on here calling us "pony" and saying we were "played off the park".
Strange bunch, Charlton fans.
Well we were a bit pony in the second half, looking at the stats Franchise had more of the possession, and more shots on target than we did, and if their CB hadn't lost his head, we could easily have lost that game.

But, and I really do want to stress this as I think it's important for perspective, we did clearly go into that second half looking to muck about and maybe nick one on the counter by taking advantage of them being down to 10 men. To Robinson's credit he re-shaped his side very well and it was difficult to notice they were a man down. But our second half performance was related directly to our desire to take the sting out rather than an all round poor showing. Granted, we didn't carry out the plan all that well but it's a tough thing to do for 45. I genuinely don't think we were lucky, that match was ours to win and we did the job

By that logic if we hadn't scored twice we would've lost 0-1.
Only problem we have at the moment is strikers not scoring and our wingers aren't creating enough. JJ I can forgive as he's played his part but Green just doesn't put crosses in early enough instead he delays and is closed down while up front Kerms and BWP just isn't working, Kerms flicks on are great but BWP doesn't seem to be in the right place. I wouldn't drop Kerms as he works his bollocks off and wins and competes for every header and thats what you need from your centre forward.
But then again BWP was put through a few times tonight but it just isn't happening for him and feel once he gets a goal he'll be fine. So really I don't know what I'm moaning about we're 8 points clear with games in hand!

Yes we won, but it was unnecessarily tense at the end, we were playing against 10 men, and frankly took our foot off the gas too much, effectively letting them back into the game as we abdicated space and possession. If we were worried about staying fresh for Saturday, why didn't we use all 3 subs?
Yes for sure we can win the league! The result tonight was handed to us on a plate and that seems to happen when you are at the top more so than when you are at the bottom. It is disconcerting that we are not scoring from open play like we were earlier in the season and that the goals have dried up for our strikers but nevertheless we march on relentlessly towards the finishing line. At 2-0 and with 8 games to play in 26 days? I can understand the second half performance against 10 men and it wouldn't be Charlton if they didn't give us a little scare late in the game. Whether that was intentional I'm not so sure but we are now 10 points clear of third place with 2 games in hand and that'll do me in whatever gear you like. It's onto Tranmere now and by SCP's reckoning we need 8 more wins and the odd draw out of 17 matches...............bring it on COYR!

To be fair, MK Dons were always going to have more shots and more possession than us because they had to chase the game, once we hit the break at 2-0 it was always going to be that way.
It was a big win that will have our rivals in the top 6 shaking their heads with dismay as the gap widens. If we win 9-0 at home someone on here will still say "I was disapointed with BWP tonight" or something as strange...This is Charlton and this is as good as it gets in my view, so to return to the thread yes we can seriously win this league and we may do it sooner than a lot of us expected at this rate...roll on Saturday, another mediocre performance and three points
Thought we took our foot of the gas 2nd half and were way too laid back, but who cares winning!!! Don't worry we have Hudds away and Stevenage at home only top 6 games left. Just enjoy the ride and i am sure we will strengthen next year for another promotion push. Kerm has to stay in the team for those of you saying the front two isn't working if anything give Haynes a run out with Kerm, you never know could be a master stroke and gave another fans favourite on our hands. His pace is frightening. Up the Addicks and as I have said just enjoy the ride.
I see where AFKA is coming from , we do look like we have not got out of third gear for a long while but you have to give MK Dons a lot of credit tonight. They are the best footballing side in this division ( including us) and i still fancy them to beat anybody over two legs in the play offs. I will take lacklustre wins all day long as long as it gets us promoted.
I am as miffed as everyone on here that our strikers aren't scoring, but then I see some of the goals scored tonight & I know things will click very soon for Kermy & BWP.............Lee Hughes (boo) chased the ball down, keeper then slips leaving him to roll the ball into an empty net............Paul Benson side foots in from 2 yards out with no defender in sight - words like blindfold & granny come to mind !!!
I'd rtaher play crap & win than play a blinder every match & end up losing...........been there & got the tee-shirt !! I don't belive in God or any higher being - but what we are experiencing is payback for suffering over the last few years.
Glad I wasn't there now as I probably, (no definately) would have had a grumble. But in the cold light of day MKD have played Sheff Wed & Hudds in the last couple of weeks and picked up a draw in both, hence the gap to third forming.Pretty no effective yes
Performance all round was a funny one but as said we look solid at the back, Hamer worries me now and then but for most of the game looked good. I for one feel that Hayes should have more involvement, if you go back to earlier in the season he offered the squad a lot. Not necessarily in terms of goals but his play with BWP, just curious if he could be the answer up front.
So SCP can say we second best and not at the races but i cant ok the choice of the word pony might have been harsh but we wasnt very good. Our fluid passing game is getting closed down quicker and our option seems to lump it.
I cannot fault the guys over the season but i just feel we need one really good performance at home to make us believe we are that good
All teams have a blip during the season - the great thing is, we still keep picking up the points during our blip. That is primarily due to having the best defence in the league, not by a narrow margin but by a massive margin.
Important to note that powell is building a side based on the sven goran erricson philosophy of football. Be organized, defence first, attack second. Look at the table and it is clearly working. Secondly don't change a winning side also comes into play when we talk about the playing style as much as the players picked. I've seen enough to know that when we have to we can take it up a gear or two. If we played more attacking football I'm convinced we would score a lot more goals but perversely I think we would also drop more points. Basically powell has a formula for picking up points which will get us promoted. We should also remember that we are now playing teams a second time and they would have adjusted their tactics accordingly (making it harder to run away with games).
Really don't understand the moaning on here, we have wanted a winning team for ages, we finally get one & we are now not winning the right way. As valleygary has said on here before we are the Chelsea side of about Five/Six years ago for this division. Abramovich did not like that style so he changed manager look how that has worked out they have neither a winning nor expansive team now. We ain't Barcelona so what, who cares? We have a winning team which I for one am grateful for.
I think we are having our blip in form, when all other teams lose we win ugly. Hopefully we will hit form again soon, but until then I am happy to keep nicking three points.
Old saying, strikers win games but a defence wins you titles.

And This
When your not playing well its all about points... I think there is more to come from this side soon.
Cant knock the points we have taken off our rivals!!

I understand Smudges point entirely, it seems very Surreal to me that we dont seem to be being challenged in a game, Teams have a lot of possesion but rarely get a clear cut opportunity to score , we seem to be clinical inside the 18yd area
but then take the Bury game 21 shots on goal loads of possesion and the feeling from the game was that we were poor, and we only scrapped a last minute point
chill out folks enjoy the ride we will go up, we will go up as champions and finally kiss this shit arse league behind, or would you rather be Huddersfield and MK dons, one of them aint going up this year possibly both of them yet they play nice football and one of them has a hitman on fire infront of the onion bag

I must admit that I miss the days when we played with a clever holding midfielder able to spray the ball around, Jensen, Reid, Murphy for instance. Although we are in a wonderful position, for me that might be the missing link. However we should be aware that the management team proved last summer that they know what they are doing, and I am quite sure that somewhere in the background we have people specifically thinking about what we will need if we get where we want to be next season. This is going to be a long journey, and at the moment we are only just approaching the first stop.
As much as i dont like him Claridge sumed it up a couple of weeks back. Charlton have many diffrent games they can smash teams by 3 or 4 goals and grind out results. he also said when Charlton aint at there best they bring teams down with them.
A couple of seasons ago we started off eally well with Parky but teams worked us out and we coudl not grind results out! Now we can!

Don't know what game you were watching then. "Played off the park" suggests we got murdered and took a bit of a pasting. A 2-1 pasting?

Surely would not hurt to try? Rest Kermy?
