If Saints have offered 6 mill for Hooper do you really think that they see Yann as the ideal replacement given his career so far. Forget the short stint with us and YK has not hit the heights. I doubt this one.
Sky Sports say after talks between the clubs, no offer will be forthcoming. Yann very happy and would like to extend contract at Charlton. Lets hope its true!
Selfishly, I hope we don't take it/ it's not true. Business wise, a £1m profit on a 30 year old? You have to take that. Reinvest it, but take it all the same.

Its about judgement and timing. Selling key players now even to re-invest is a gamble. Given our league position and the importance of Yann to the team, it may end up losing us money. The bigger the offer the more tempting of course.
My own take on this is that we signed Clarke and Haynes:
a) to add cover/strengthen squad over all b) to cover against hostile bids for Yann and BWP which are hard to turn down
To me that shows a marked improvement in planning compared to previous scenarios where we held out and sold without an obvious replacement.
I am sure they don't want to sell either but playing the ostrich is not a sensible option for clubs with limited resources.
To me the biggest threat for a hostile transfer bid this window is Wiggins.
sounds like we've scared celtic off and given kermo a rise - need to do the same with Wiggins - have to keep your best players if u want to progress unless its silly money which £1 mil isn't.
As a Scottish fan, I know that Celtic are linked with a LOT of players, majority of it pure speculation. If Hooper goes to Southampton, there's a very, very small chance they'll go for him. If Hooper doesn't go, then absolutely no chance.
Lennon's transfer policy is to sign players in their early twenties, e.g Hooper, Stokes, Kayal, Matthews, Forster, Wanyama. I'd be STUNNED if this transfer happened.
Good news if Celitc aren't interested, even better news if they were and we said no to £1m. Would suggest that behind the scenes we might be in a better position than we may think to reject a £1m bid for a 30 year old.
Powells reaction now on OS but he doesnt go into too much detail which makes me wonder about the clubs reaction if the bid did materialise, surely theyd fight to keep him at least til summer...... Someone needs to speak to the relative of kermogant who kept posting about his nickname haha
I'm really surprised at some of the fans here deluding themselves that they are hard-headed business realists. Yann is a key reason why we are where we are. The directors need us to be promoted for their entire business plan to work. There are only 11 days now until the window shuts. If they sell him now they have a tiny amount of time to identify and purchase an example of the most prized species in football - a good striker. And every other club will see us coming. And then there will be a period of 3-4 weeks while the new guy develops an understanding with BWP. Yep, that would be really 'good business'.....

Good business is buying low selling high and keeping your running costs down. For example, natural second teir teams like Lyon and Udinese have become very effective football teams punching massively above their weight by doing just that. I don't doubt that supporters would see the sale of Amorouso or Balboa or Anderson completely unacceptable and suicidal. Mo st fans down't really care less if the club's leaking money on a massive squad, because it's not their cash. I'm not saying that we should sell - though I understand why he might fancy the move to a bigger club and a better wage - but there's always a price. Just as we need to trust in Powell we should trust in this board's judgement too and accept sometimes they'll make decisions that fans don't want to understand - because they have less skin in the game.
How on earth can Lyon be a 'natural second Tier team'? It's the second largest city in France, they are building a spanking great stadium, won the league 7 times this century etc etc. This has got to be the most daft comment on here this year so far.
@Jimmymelrose Lyon used to languish in the shadow of St Etienne. A business plan later and the titles arrived. I would not call them natural 2nd tier but they certainly previously underperformed.
Mortimerician, I fully understand, thank you very much, that a football club is a business, however it is not as simple as you suggested. Never mind, there is a fairly simple issue here. If we get promoted, revenues go up by at least 3m, largely the TV deal. If we sell Kermy now for a 1m, and deraill our chances of promotion, which it will do, what is the use of that million. There's always a price as you say, but that price is higher than 1m.
I think you and Sheffiled Red would be on firmer French ground if you had cited Auxerre rather than Lyon, although of course their business model was built on a world class academy. In the global world of football virtually every French club is a selling club, except for the dodgy artificial construct known as PSG.
Not sustainable which is why it is imperative to get into The Championship. Slater said that promotion was the aim for this year and I think we can see by the squad and attitude of all concerned that this is still the imperative. He also said that it would not be disaster if we failed this year which implies to me at least that there is money and the business model is long term. All academic as we are going up :0)

I feel that you are twisting the argument to suit your opinion. Yann is important, but with our squad being THIS strong, losing him wouldn't necessarily cost us promotion, and picking up a replacement won't necessarily be that difficult. "3-4 weeks to develop an understanding" is pure conjecture. We could sign someone who ends up hitting it off with Bradley in the first game for all we know.
I don't think any single player leaving us will detrimentally affect us the way that, say, Parker leaving did. Hence why making a £1m profit on a player who only has a few years left in his career is good business IMO. But like I said, I like the guy and hope he stays.

Would be good for them to get some experience at a lower level before making the step up to a proper league.
I'd hate to see him in them shitey hoops!
review end of season
ps do they want docherty ?

Currently Charlton is running at an estimated £4m a year loss - that is not sustainable on L1 turnover.

Different type of players, doubt if Vardy could play well with SWP as too similar.
