  • I like old Llera, but wish him a torrid time on saturday!
  • Ambrose, thomas, lisbie, paddy macarthy, jay bothroyd, mark hudson, semedo, bougherra players who were deemed by some not good enough who went on and done well at other clubs.
Thomas granted has found his feet again at West Brom although probably only playing as well as he did for us in the Prem - when we got relegated he didn't seem to want to know and didn't put in the effort
Lisbie played all his games for us in the Prem and since leaving has played at Champ/L1 level - obviously he has scored more as he has found his level
Bothroyd only played for us in the Prem although most of his starts were in the Cup - he has made a name for himself in the Champ but has not set the Prem alight
Hudson and McCarthy were both OK and have remained in Champ - not sure whether they are playing any better than when at Charlton - both still very slow
Ambrose certainly improved at Palace and also got the nod for Free kicks and pens which he never had at Charlton due to the likes of Reid and Murphy - not sure if has continued his first season form at Palace into subsequent seasons though
Bougherra was sold to make money and Semedo is probably not playing any better at Wendy (remember he was player of the year in his last season here - hardly a failure

  • Llera the first player who also sponserd our kits too.

Was up that way over xmas and got chatting to a West Brom ST holder. When he found out I was Charlton asked me what I thought of Thomas. I said 'much a one trick pony who mostly fails to deliver an end product and thinks he's better than he is". He agreed totally and said him and his mates don't understand how he is a regular in their team, but pointed out that this is the 3rd manager they've had that picks him so he must do something right for them.
  • With you Dizze but I would have preferred to have kept Llera rather than the Doc

Doc is obviously on decent money and therefore is hard to get rid of.

Ah, but some of the "some" are complete planks. You could have added JonJo on that basis, although that would have got me mad.
Some of these players we had to sell: Bougherra, Hudson. Only planks thought Semedo wasnt a good player for us. A greater number thought that his concentration on the defensive side of midfield held us back, which SCP has proved to be correct. Jay Bothroyd has amazed me but he was only here on loan. I'm not sure Thomas, Hudson and McCarthy are doing significantly better for their current teams than they did in their time at Charlton. I'm not sure I'd have McCarthy in ahead of our current centre backs, even when we are division lower.

    Still, interesting list, mate.

You seem to be contradicting yourself a bit regarding Semedo Prague. Is CP a plank or not?
  • Of course i am not. Semedo was ever-present under Chris Powell last year. Unless you know better than me, I believe it was Semedo who initiated the move. This then got CP thinking about a better way to organise his midfield. Which he has done, and we are the better for it. Semedo was player of the year here, but there were and are some planks who didnt see why.
  • i could see why he was player of the year but like CP i could also see that we could do better, which we have.

Because he had a decent attitude and worked hard, but mainly because there was little competition!
