Didnt he sign about midnight the last night of the transfer window as well. Ensuring we didnt get anyone else in to replace him (i think). We had played a home game that night and i remember throwing something at the telly as we watched sky sports news with his smug face smiling from his motor as he rolled up at the Spurs ground.
If I recall correctly, we had played a game that night and in the post-match interview Curbs basically said that Murphy was still a Charlton player and wasn't going anywhere, pretty much at the same time as the scouse git was having his medical at Spurs. Don't think Curbs was happy about it when he found out either!
The game in question was a 0-0 draw at The Valley vs WBA on January 31st - deadline day.
Murphy had been sent off vs Arsenal on Boxing Day and and had not played - or even appeared on the bench since that had happened.
Curbs had told him to sit tight and that he would work him back into the team but Murphy - who had been linked with the Bar Codes - wanted out and he got his wish at the very last minute after Charlton realised they had to let him leave.
Danny has got a lot of stick from some Charlton fans and from Curbishley for suggesting that Tottenham are a bigger club. The fact is they do have a bigger ground and more fans than Charlton. Danny meant no disrespect to the Charlton fans by saying that and has always been very grateful for their support. He simply meant the expectancy level at Tottenham is higher and that is something he thrives off.
Manchester United, for example, have more fans than Fulham. That is not a criticism of Fulham fans. It is a statement of fact.
In the past few weeks, when he has been left out, he has still been travelling with the team. He has been doing extra training with the fitness coach in order to remain fully fit for when the chance came. He hates not playing but it has not been his choice. The thing that really annoys me is the snide nature of some of the remarks that have been made. These included such things as Danny having a fuller social diary at White Hart Lane. Curbishley obviously does not read this column, otherwise he would know we do not go out much. (more)
I'm sure we'll all see the views of Chairwoman Cry-Baby through more cynical eyes now, but you can be sure The Times will give her enough rope to make them both look a bit stupid over the next few months.
Like I've said before (final word on Murphy, promise), the best thing that could happen to him was not that move to Spurs, is not an England call-up, not even a regular first-team place, and definitely not a wife who keeps blabbing on in her fortnightly newspaper column. He needs a psychiatrist, because it's his state of mind which drags teams down and has now dragged himself down. (Maybe it's something Charlton should have recognised sooner.) But in a football world where Sol Campbell has the piss taken out of him for seeing a reiki healer - big deal - don't expect that to be a working suggestion any day soon.
Don't forget Kishishev and the russian midfielder who I have forgotten, despite having a picture somewhere of his naked wife. However, whatever thanks we may give to Danny Murphy for his part in that triumvirate it does not make up for the way he left this club, how he slatted the club, curbs and us the fans. I also understand that when he was at the club he was an obnoxious billy big whatsits and was rude to the every day admin and catering staff.
I don't boo and and I don't chant at former players but on Saturday I did, with relish.
Who cares about Murphy, can we see the picture of Smertins naked wife ?
As I recall he kind of blamed the fact that he didn't get called up for England because he played for Charlton (not a big club) so now he's at Fulham......how silly is that
I seem to remember Murphy chose us rather than Spurs when he signed. Perhaps that's what upset his missus right from the start: she wouldn't be a 'proper' WAG with Charlton.
I very rarely boo ex players but I did Murphy. However I would rather have boo-ed his wife. YEs she did deserve it. It was her who slagged us off publicly in her newspaper articles. She deserved all she got. I don't mind players moving on, it happens in football - but when you do show some respect.
Sorry you do not call women and children what they were called. Behave yourself. If you had brains you could have made up a song about film premieres or something like that which could have been funny.
Curb It - please read what I write before you start saying I havent had any brains. I clear said boo. I did not call any woman anything as i didnt see her. I have no idea what other people called her as I was in an area that certain so called abuse was amade and i have no idea what it was. I cannot see in my post I made any reference about children. What all this bit about film premieres is is beyond me. So get off your high horse

There's a bottlo ( off license) in Australia called Danny Murphy's and for Bout 2 yrs after he acted like a muppet I refused to buy booze from there ... Totally ridiculous really but true ...
I don't see any problem with booing him -it is part and parcel of being a footballer and leaving a club in not the best way possible - I just think it is pretty cheap to pick on her - All I can read from that article is that she is defending her husband over us which surely you would expect her to do.
Doesn't Murphy play in a midfield 2 at Fulham? I remember he didn't seem to be able to for us but seems he can for Fulham.
I don't think you can consider Dempsey a forward in a 4-4-2 sense. Even in his twilight years, Murphy is much more mobile for Fulham than he ever was for us, possibly Mark Hughes laid it on the line for him.

You said she deserved the abuse she got on saturday. So you will be waiting a long time for an apology from me.
Remember when there was talk about Murphy getting a recall into the England squad becuase of how well he was playing for us at the time? Eriksson came to The Valley to watch him (can't remember who we played), and Murphy froze under the pressure. He was awful that day, and it was bye-bye England for him.
I remember it vivdly and you are exactly right - he looked like a rabbit in the headlights all game. Ironically it was home to Spurs. We went 2-0 up, then lost 2-3. Same time Darren Bent made a rather out of character two-fingered gesture to Spurs fans (just to indicate we were 2-0 up). Don't think they ever forgave him for that - one of the reasons they never took to him when he signed for them.
I'd certainly boo Murphy and his missus, given the chance - but I mean just boo (before Curb-It comes after me)!!
A second-half treble saw Tottenham battle back to snatch all three points against Charlton at The Valley. Darren Bent put the Addicks ahead midway through the first half with a neat finish from a Danny Murphy pass.
Bent doubled the lead after the break with a curling right-foot shot before Ledley King answered with a faint touch from a Pedro Mendes free-kick.
Ahmed Mido then scored from an acute angle, before substitute Robbie Keane blasted home late on for the win. Charlton had their hopes of halving the six-point deficit on Premiership leaders Chelsea dashed with a spirited second-half display from Spurs.
But the hosts had looked likely winners of the game.
Out to impress England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson in the stands, Murphy sent in a probing cross for another England hopeful Bent to pounce on.
The striker skipped clear to beat goalkeeper Paul Robinson from 10 yards.
Bent could have doubled the lead 12 minutes later when he scuffed Alexei Smertin's squared pass across the goal.
But the 21-year-old made no mistake shortly after the break, latching onto a Jerome Thomas pass and calmly stopping the ball before curling it into the right-hand corner of the net.
King had missed the best of Tottenham's chances in the first half, blasting a Pedro Mendes' corner wide.
But he made amends in three minutes after Bent's second, faintly connecting with Mido's flick-on from a set piece to reduce Charlton's lead.
The visitors equalised 13 minutes later when Mido picked up the ball deep on the left of the box and drove it through the keeper's legs from a tight angle.
Keane, who came on for Jermaine Jenas, then secured the victory for Spurs in the 80th minute, when he collected a pass from Jermain Defoe and beat the keeper with a right-foot drive from just inside the penalty area.
Charlton desperately tried to level the scores in the final moments, but Luke Young wasted the best chance by firing over the crossbar.
•Charlton manager Alan Curbishley: "I think we lost a game which we deserved to win. "I think the Ledley King goal changed the whole slant on the game - we'd just gone 2-0 up and deserved to be.
"But it lasted for three minutes and even at 3-2, we had a couple of chances to make it 3-3 , but they weren't taken and we paid the price."
•Tottenham coach Martin Jol: "I think Robbie Keane when he gets this chance in this sort of situation can score which is great. "Before Robbie came on, it was 2-2 and we had to take a gamble and play three forwards on one flank and it came off.
"I think we deserved it. In the second half, we believed in it and it was a very important away win for us."
Don't agree with most that's being said, was absolute quality for us, loved seeing him play for Charlton. He absolutely ran our team, Smertin was decent but no where near as influential as Murphy. I think he had every right to be p*ssed off when he was dropped. Also don't remember him slagging us off when he left, who cares what his missus says? Curbs could say anything back then and we'd have taken his side and rightly so, but Murphy joined a bigger club after we messed him about.
What a sad bunch. These are professional footballers and they work for MONEY. If you was a professional footballer playing for Charlton and you were approached by Spurs what would you do? EXACTLY - Rumours on whose a nice bloke and who isn't don't matter a jot. I don't expect anything of a footballer player and they mean F All to me or my life. I support them if they play for us, but once their gone their gone. Judged solely on how they played for the club whilst wearing the shirt and nothing else. Murphy was superb for Charlton, he also saved Fulham from relegation a couple of years ago and is something of a hero at Craven Cottage because of that alone. Everyone has egg on their faces because Pardew is making them look silly, so time to grow up. The players ( including the current crop ) care nothing for you or your club. The ones that do are a rare breed. Matt Le Tissier is one, there aren't many more. I shout for BWP and cheer him on the pitch, if he sat next to me in a pub I would move away................. Now, slag me off..........!!!!

I'm sure your wish will be granted. They're queuing up to fella. What a strange post.
tbh it always felt like he never got over being released by Liverpool when he was with us.
Partly, IIRC he was set to join Spurs when they started dragging their heels and Curbs nipped in, but I think you are substantially right, it took him a while to transtion from a big club to a smaller outfit and it took a while for his ego to adjust.

I only disagree about players not caring once they've moved on. I think that was a silly thing to say as a lot of players do care.
Weird one. Surely still good enough to play in the Premier League? The Blackburn fixtures should be fun then.
I'm not convinced he is. At 35 he is going to find it even harder to hold down a place in the first team of a Premier League side. I suspect that he would never have got a two year deal with a Premier League club, and if Blackburn are promoted this coming season he might just get one last hurrah before he retires.
For any player to get a two year deal at 35 is quite an achievement.
He is likely to have wanted to move back to his home turf so it is a good move for him ,as a player he was in and out with us and it was a shame we couldn't hold on to him.

But to give abuse to his missus and kid makes you a bit weird.

The CCC is a tough place in midfield, it's very physical and the ball is airborne a lot.
