  • Shame they didn't slate bradford

And from what I heard parky was party to the renegotiate

ha ha good old parky .... you love him
  • Shame they didn't slate bradford And from what I heard parky was party to the renegotiate
nah, don't believe that, he's a decent sort
  • Least he only has to wait a month before the transfer window opens, hopefully he can get a move then a get at least half a season under his belt with a new. Good luck Benno hope you get the move you deserve soon.

  • He must've thought he was in with a shout here or he would've gone to Notts County.  Crazy to go to Bradford and I can't believe a L1 club won't come in for him.  With the proper service (and god knows he didn't get that last year) he will score.
I wonder if he regrets turning the deal down that we offered?  He wanted 3 years and in view of the FPP rulings coming in we would only offer 2 years plus the option of a 3rd based on appearances in the 2nd year.  I actually thought charlton were a bit disingenuous by reporting that they had withdrawn the 150k offer we made when clearly, had he agreed terms he would have come to us.  Of course at the time he wouldn't have known that we would have done as well as we have done so far this season.

His agent tried to bring the deal back to life but I think our chairman was a bit p'eed off with it all!

My personal thought is that we maybe cut off our nose to spite our face as I still think he would've done well for us.  Surely you won't get anything like 150k in January?

So this Bradford thing...it wasn't some new injury they discovered?  They were just trying it on to get him for less?

I still think he could easily do a job in league 1 and I'm surprised that only league 2 clubs seem interested.
  • I am not upset he is staying over Xmas ,Powell said we do not want to be caught short.
  • Large addick love child of pardew

it was the same thing that parkinson knew when we signed him. benson is fit a raring to go anywhere
  • I just wish that the deal for him to come to us could be revived in January.  It's surely a much better move for him than Bradford or Swindon.  Sadly, I can't see it happening.

He would have been magic for Bradford, they messed up big time there.
  • More chance of Paul going back to daggers mate, from what I have been hearing from in the dagenham camp they will be back in for him come January,

Feel for benno because he is having a tough time with it all, and I know that up to just a few weeks ago he didn't feel like a footballer anymore

He needs a move , it was a bad move for Paul to come to us, we didn't need a benno we as a club and fans would never have taken to benno ( not 100% as a collective) he would've divided opinions

Tbh he is a dagenham player and should've stayed there they all loved him and he was at his level

  • I think he's above league 2 level.  You have such a strong squad this season that I understand why he won't get a game with you, but I think he would have had a starting place at ours.

The deal he was offered, although not the 3 years he wanted was def on more money than he was getting at yours too.  I think we pay pretty good wages for this league, although not on a par with what you, the sheffield clubs and hudders can afford obviously.

I imagine he didn't think he would have all these problems finding a club at the point he was considering coming to us.  It's a shame that he insisted on the 3 years, I hear he regrets it now and his agent def tried to bring the deal back to life.

The wages Daggers can pay must be way less than in this league.  If he does go back there I would back them to stay up though.  Are you still expecting a fee in January?
  • He's out of contract in June, so I'd imagine we would want a fee, but I reckon we'd settle for £100k - pure guess though.
  • Not sure about the fee mate from what I can gather the move is now all about gutting Paul playing and playing regular,

Benno don't move for the money but the 3 year deal would've seen him right for a while so I think it was tempting

At. Daggers I believe they have found a way internally to pay him his wages outside of the annual funds they had set aside for this season

Paul just didn't fit cafc , under Parkinson he had a chance which I believe is why there is a bitterness for how bradford let him down

I think your wrong about him being above league 2 but I just hope he gets a move stays fit and makes the most of his last 2/3 seasons in pro football

Before going back to counting numbers for a living

I have always said he is a great guy very humble but unfortunately I never rated him as high as a footballer
  • Benno could still do a job in League One.
    Sharp enough in the box.

He'll always be as good as the service he gets.

Sorry Oggy gotta disagree on this one the sooner we move him on the better, Conference level player, always will be IMO. Nice guy maybe but can't hold a ball up, can't win a header, can only score tap ins, (most of the time) not my idea of a striker and I don't care what his goal scoring stats say. Cost us the away game win at Brighton last year, missed two tap ins which even at my advanced years I would have buried!
  • This discussion has been done to death. Last year he fitted into our aspirations.

He isn't good enough for where we are now and where we are hopefully headind. Powell knows that. Hence the desire to move him on.

He'll never play for us again and will be replaced in January with a better player.

Agreed Clem but why do people on here keep singing the guy's praises? I know it's all about opinions but I watched him against Preston in the League Cup and he was subbed at half time because he was poor........very poor whether he had returned from injury too early or not and SCP did him a favour by saving him from further embaressment.

Same reason other slag him off, differences in opinions.  There are players that have represented us over the last 5 years who are much more deserving of a slagging off than Benson.

Who's slagging him off? I'm just telling it as it is and as for the other under achievers over the last 5 years there's hardly any left, most of whom incidentally were also signed by the previous manager or the management team he was part of.
  • Agree not good enough for where we are or where we are aiming to go, but in a poor team last season he had a decent goalscoring record (10 in just over 30 games).

We knew he was a limited player that could score goals when he signed. I wouldn't say he underachieved as that was the level of player available to us.

Abbott, Fortune, Francis, McCormack etc struggled last season but Benson was one that did a job for us. In the end those goals helped keep us in this division last season. Good luck to him hope he gets the right move in January.
