Looks like Benson is on the way out soon

  • It's beyond me why these clubs leave it until the last minute to push the deals through. It does no favours for anyone and in this case has left Benno in limbo. Feel sorry for the bloke
In fairness to Swindon, in this case they didn't expect Benson to be available, it was widely expected his move elsewhere was already sealed and signed. That, or what Oggy said...
  • It's the same old story, Valley Mac ..........the buying club holds a gun to the selling club's head at the last minute, in the hope of paying a fee much reduced from that previously agreed.

If the selling club needs the money, they panic and are pressured into selling cheaply.
    Anyway, that's the theory.

It seems to be the football equivalent of gazundering - and presumably clubs try this on because it works.

Are you sure you mean gazunder, which I thought was a pee pot that goes under the bed and not gazumping?  :-)
  • Gazundering is the opposite of gazumping, where someone is selling their house, everything is set to go through and at the last minute the buyer offers a few k less or they'll walk away. Similarly in football it seems that there are a number of these sort of deals - the player has cleared his locker out and is entering the new ground on his sat-nav only for the buying club to start re-negotiating the deal.

  • Thanks BFR, you learn something new on CL every day.
  • what is amazing is the amount of paperwork needed just to loan a player !!  I read that Benno & his agent stopped off at a service station to fax the necessary paperwork to the FA & The Football League  - one arrived & the other didn't.  Surely in this age of communication an easier way of confirming  it all can be used.

yes what happened to e-mail, although I suppose they would not have had a signature on it

Why can't they scan documents  and send them via email?

Who uses a fax machine in 2011?

  • Who keeps a scanner in their car?

Who keeps a fax machine in their car?

You can get a handheld scanner for about 99 quid, battery powered with Wi-Fi.

Football must be the last industry in the world still using bloody faxes!

The FA/FL only need to check the players twitter or facebook page...............C'mon guys, keep up.
  • The FA/FL don't accept scanned and emailed docs, only faxes.

I would suggest that if you are in the midst of a last-minute transfer move that will require paperwork to be sent - don't get in your sodding car you muppet!!
  • I think you'll find he was on his way back from Bradford after they renaged on the deal..............what was he supposed to do ?
  • ah that lovely Parky bloke has shafted us. Who would have believed that, such a nice guy too.

I very much doubt it was Parky's decision. Why would he care about the money side and I'm sure he certainly doesn't make the financial decisions for the club.
If you're gonna have a pop at him at least have some semblance of realism.
  • Some people just can't resist a cheap dig at Parky.

It was the Bradford board that tried to re-negotiate the fee at the last minute -  nothing to do with Parky.
  • Don't see why Parky should owe CAFC any loyalty - none shown to him...

Oh I dunno, maybe book into a hotel for the night? Seriously, we must be talking a matter of hours until the window closes. If you really want a move and you know the paperwork needs to be faxed then surely even a footballer can work out that staying near a fax machine might be a smart move?

  • No loyaly to Parky   !!!  worst ever Caretaker manager in footballs history ---hid in the cupboard for two years as Pardews number two--- we go down 13 points adrift------but we showed him no loyalty ???
  • come on goonerhater he turned down the huddersfield managers job cos we offered him a load more money to be that wallflower of pardews
  • C'mon, we don't need no dissing of that lovely Mr Parkinson now do we ?

The Bradford board are surely considering a change of manager, looking at how Parky has been doing up there. so they didn't want to be left with a Parky player when they tin him.
  • Wonder if he'll play Saturday.
  • Wonder if he'll play Saturday.

He'll be cup-tied if he does which in turn might affect his chances of a move. I'd rather play Smith and Hayes with BWP on the bench.
  • Shame they didn't slate bradford

And from what I heard parky was party to the renegotiate

I do not think him being cup-tied will make any difference.  They wont be expecting to get to Wembley.  Whoever buys or gets him on loan will be more interested in what he can do in the league.
  • I feel really sorry for Benson - none of this is of his making.  Wonder if he wishes he'd stayed in accountancy?
