How a club in league 2 could pay league 1 wages i don't know, he'd be better off at Colchester, nice & local to him , he might have to take a hit on his salary, perhaps thats the real reason Bradford fell through?
For me the problem with Benno - much like it is with Hayes - is they never seem to be alert enough. Countless times there would be a ricochet and a loose ball but Benno would be on his heels and fail to react.
I see Hayes as very much the same sort of player. Sadly Euell is also in this bracket
Neither are particularly fast. Neither have a particularly good first touch on a consistent basis. Neither trouble defenders in the air.
Admittedly Benno has one great quality in that he is often in the right place at the right time but a player like this in the 3rd tier is a bit of a luxury (unless he's prolific) Hayes has some nice flicks occasionally but many don't come off. He doesn't win enough aerially for my liking.
The problem for all of these players is Big Yann. He's a bloody nuisance - aerially awesome. Lovely touches and flicks. Extremely powerful. Good technique and works well with BWP.
Sadly I do feel we need someone else as backup as Hayes, Benno and Euell aren't up to it IMO
Hope Benno does OK at Bradford though - seems a really nice chap but just wrong place wrong time it seems
Edit to add - I am staggered that there is talk of £100k I thought the £250k was ridiculously high at the time (though Im led to believe this wasnt the true fee - more like £60k a year). If we got anything I'd be surprised given he has not long left on his contract and his age is against him
Skysports.com understands Swindon made a beat-the-deadline swoop for Charlton striker Paul Benson.
Benson was expected to join Bradford on Thursday's loan deadline day, but the move fell through at the last minute. That alerted Swindon and they are believed to have made a late swoop for Benson as Paolo Di Canio looks to bolster his attacking options. Charlton are willing to loan out Benson as the former Dagenham & Redbridge man is will down the pecking order in Chris Powell's plans. Swindon are believed to have agreed a deal with Charlton for Benson, but are now awaiting confirmation from the Football League that the move went through before Thursday's 5pm deadline
teaming up again with McCormack. I'd have gone to Bradford !!
and team up with Parky: I don't believe it.
This would be a nightmare decision for you: your worst rated Charlton player and worst-rated Charlton manager to choose from. Surely it's easier to put up with the player (?)
Bradford come up with bs about an injury to benno that was picked up in the medical, same injury Paul had when he signed for us , parky knew about the existing condition as it has not got any worse than when he signed him, they left it very late to say anything and when they did it was not that they didn't want him just were not willing to pay the agreed fee,
They knew that Paul couldnt get to daggers in time to sign and that the Swindon one would be hard ,
They tried it on we stayed firm and wouldn't move ,
Benno not to pleased either from what I was told .
It's beyond me why these clubs leave it until the last minute to push the deals through. It does no favours for anyone and in this case has left Benno in limbo. Feel sorry for the bloke
It's the same old story, Valley Mac ..........the buying club holds a gun to the selling club's head at the last minute, in the hope of paying a fee much reduced from that previously agreed.
If the selling club needs the money, they panic and are pressured into selling cheaply. Anyway, that's the theory.

I expect Benno to roll up and save the daggers has until today to make up his mind, dont believe the failed medical shite,
On Sky now
