I think if we could opt out of he competition we would. We have shown this season that a disapointing cup result doesn't affect us in the League - I think if you make loads of changes it is easier to distance one performance from the other.
hopefully not too many changes...........maybe Alonso in for Hollands and Hayes or Benno in for BWP - Kermit can play 45/60 mins. Evina in for Wiggy .......................too many changes and A) we look like we aren't taking it seriously and could upset the rythem of the side.
Let me just say, I have nothing against Euell, in fact I thought he was underrated when he was with us before, but, I don't think he should be starting matches these days.
Agree with most of the posts, I think we should keep the spine of the team intact. If we're 2 or 3 up by half time then rest a few more players. Nobody has mentioned Jordan Cousins getting a game at full back? Also, I'm not convinced by Kermorgant and Hayes as a partnership. I see both of them more as providers than out and out goalscorers. For that reason I would opt for Benson who, with the right service, could score goals fo us. I don't feel this is the type of game to introduce Bover, its not going to be a great surface so probably won't suit his game.
The playing surface at the shay, will put most Premier league clubs to shame. It's a shame it's so good, we could have done with a mud heap to even game out.
If Pritchard's fit I'd like to see him get a run out in some capacity. I'd also like to see Alonso play and Doc nowhere near the team. Other than that I'll be happy with whoever we put out
If we're going for a reserve team that needs to get minutes on the pitch under its belt - then I reckon a draw is the best result, so they can get another game in the replay. Best way to get people like Alonso match fit
I would expect Taylor to play as an old Halifax Town player. Could also see Bover and Pritchard in the team as they have played at this level before and need to demonstrate that they have progressed. Alonso probably needs the match practice - as he may need to play in the League if Hollands/Hughes are injured in Stephens absence. Evina will also play a role - since has been in match day squads but not even on bench in recent games.
Pritchard has only just come back from injury so I wouldn't start him. A mix of old and young in inevitable but I would like to see something like that. If only Mambo was with us.
what im wondering is.... how often would a manager (SCP) ask his star player (BWP) his interest toward the cup fixture. i understand where BWP might need a rest but what if BWP is chomping at the bits to go on a good cup run. ya know what i mean...? then would u rest the player or let him play? or would the thought of SCP asking his player what his own thoughts are sound ridiculous enough?
SCP is focussed on the league - he has said so himself. So every decision will refelct that and BWP will be rested. That isn't to say he won't try to win the game and be upset if we don't but there is no way he'll take the slightest risk -we are not going to win the FA Cup but we have a great chance of winning the league.
If you were playing this season on Championship manager - what would you do against a team you should be able to beat with a weakened team?
I cannot believe that some of you are advocating that we play a Reserve side.
We are on national television, for Christ's sake!! Do we want a repeat of the shame and humiliation that we suffered against Northwich Victoria? Isn't bad enough that we have already had a bad defeat against Brentford in another cup game that was shown on Sky?
I agree that the league has to be our first priority but it is not as though we have to contend with mid-week games either side of this fixture. No, let us be professional and put Halifax to the sword. If we are 3-0 up after an hour, then let's rest some players through substitution, but not till then.
Its on TV, everyone will want to play and get themselves in the shop window for january just in case. Plus it would look good for Chris if we put in a good performance- near full strength team I reckon.
Harry Winter scored the winner against us at Norwich last season, he is now a Halifax player - live on ITV again - Harry Winter again - 1st round of the FA Cup again - ???????????

Eh? Pretty sure it was Wayne Riley who scored for Northwich...

We have a hell of a lot stronger reserve/development team than then though, also the mentality across the entire club is completely different we've gone from what seemed like dread to delight at playing football, regardless of the opposition. Personally all for 11 changes if we can and still compete
If the league is our number one priority then you play a weakened team. The worry is that a poor result could effect our league form but evidence this season suggests that it doesn't really have a bearing. Would I be disapointed if we lose - yes- Would I be more disapointed if a key player gets injured in that game - yes again. The trick is going to be to win with a weakened side but one that should still be better than them.
As some have alluded to there is also the prospect that the game is live on national TV, not Sky, and we could attract more supporters to the club if the team play winning attractive football, so the trick is to win with a weakened side playing attractive football - over to you CP.

And it's been said that Cort is playing for his country.
Stephens has an op coming up, so he won't play.
BWP will be wrapped in cotton wool. And so will Wiggins.
Hughes is amongst the fittest at the club, but at 33 he won't be allowed to burn out - unless he insists on giving Powell a hard time!
I'd be surprised to see more than 5 of last Saturday's first X1 named, although most of the bench should start.
Powell will include a significant number of squad players - reward them for their patience. and keep them match fit and ready to step up when needed.

the money that can be made from a 3rd round tie could be useful and also to avoid the embrassment of going out 1st round.

Can see Green and Waggy both starting on either wing and they can switch as the game goes on.
