  • I noticed that as well, Hamer did look to throw it out but no-one wanted it
  • Thank god a lot of our fans have nothing to do with the coaching or tactics. There are also the idiots that want players to chase impossible balls and bemoan them when they sensibly don't. What bothers me is when the collective gets to players influencing their decsions during the game. Tends to happen most when we are playing badly and people get frustrated.

  • Just seen BWP's goal on Player, what a strike.

In all seriousness, this bloke has got to be the best striker in this League and - arguably - could do a job for a lower Premiership side.

If we give him the chances he could score 30 goals this season.

not really sure why we need Euell to cover midfield as well since we have Jackson who can switch to the middle, plus 2 other mids on the bench, deffo need Benson on there in my view

have to say I'm not sure we have enough quality at centre back yet, we seem weak both defending and attacking set plays in the air

echo bwp strike, gotta be goal of the season contender

It was also outside of the box, when was the last time we scored from outside the box?
  • Waggy against Bournemouth????
  • And Stephens against Bournemouth?  Or was he just inside?

When is the last time BWP scored from outside the box might be a more pertinent question...
  • O
We looked a good side in the first half but Wednesday, physical bunch that they are, certainly made it difficult for us after we failed to ram home our advantage. Be that as it may, our back four did well and it was only really a poor attempt at a near post clearance by Johnnie Jackson that let them back in it. I haven't seen it again and hope I'm not being too harsh (especially as he's done well for us ), but I think Alan Gilzean would have been happy with that. Harsh to point the finger at Hamer.

My main concern is that the energy levels of our midfield seem to dip alarmingly in the latter stages of certain games ( Scunny being a case in point, although they passed it much better than Wednesday ). I was hoping that Powell might give Pritchard a go late on to try and inject a bit of life into us. One man who is supposed to have a good engine is Mikel Alonso, although I'm beginning to wonder if we'll ever see him. The silence is also odd from the club (mystery injury ? Unresolved issues in Spain ? Who knows ).

Overall, though, things are much improved and with some tweaking and improvement here and there, we should be capable of staying up there. A pity about Green's illness last night. His quality could have made a difference.

Nothing to do with the defence dropping so deep they had too much ground to cover and launching long balls over their heads?
  • Brilliant start, but that was all really.

Then the second half came about and we took the foot off the pedal and it cost us like it did against Scunthorpe.

I thought the Wednesday play was just dull with no excitement whatsoever but also thought Megson did well to change his play to at least block ours.

I thought Waggy running at their knuckle dragging centre backs would have caused more problems or even bringing on Pritchard to give an extra body to combat Prutton and Semedo.

I think Sheffield Wednesday are going to be a tough team this season and we are still gelling. I still stand by the fact of when it gets to 15 games i know how i will feel about how we are playing as it is still far too early.

Also stupid to boo Morrison? Really? He would have been fired up to play against us anyway.

    Was that on Radio 4?

  • I think the fans were right to boo Morrison. It's always
affected him when he has been booed before and he's had a shocker against us, particularly
    for one game for Birmingham
    a few years back.

The one that he scored at the Jimmy Seed end?
  • i knew booooing improved players
  • The more criticisms I read, the more I am encouraged - because it was the first game I've seen this season and I really thought we were streets better than last season's abysmal dysfunctionality.

I saw a team full of desire and playing for each other, and that will do for me, because I never saw that at any stage last season.

Clever substitution by Megson and I hope CP took that on board. When it is not working, be bold and change it straight away, rather  than cautiously keeping a sub up your sleeve for the 85th min when someone gets injured or their legs go  - the game is usually won or lost by then, anyway.

There are so many better technical anaylsts than me on here like Scoham, so as always I'll leave that stuff to them. But I can read the  the 'mood music' and I felt  that despite dropping two points and there being an obvious element of frustration in that, we were in tune and on song on Monday, when last season we were disharmonious and off-key, even when we were winning.

Now the cricket season is drawing to a close and I've at last got a bit of time for football, I'm really looking forward to this winter's football for the first time in several years.
  • I thought Semedo did well. He seemed to have been gifted a lot of space though.
  • In response to Blucher, Alonso nearly fit, may feature against Preston in the cup next week.
  • Done agree with the game changer comments 'If stephens scored its a matter of how many etc'
We would have gone to deep as usual and invited pressure.

Never really thought we'd win this deservedly so it doesnt bother me.
  • Our biggest problem once the team feel they've done enough to win, is dropping deep.......thus isolating the front line, longball to compensate and inviting opponents to push up and pressurise.

We're at our best when we play a higher back line and take the game to our opponents.

I think this season has shown that you are right but I don't believe these are our tactics- more a team instinct that Powell needs to try to address going forwards. No big deal though - a win on Saturday and the start looks better than we could have hoped for with what looked like reasonably challenging fixtures.
