And Sky are always going to cherry pick games.

They chose Charlton v Sheff Weds as two of the biggest clubs in the Division, who are both expected to be involved in the promotion places.

Which is why they didn't pick Chesterfield v Leyton Orient, for example.

I think it also helped that none of the top two divisions were playing that weekend. I like us to be on TV when we're away - especially when it's a long journey, but I'd be happy to never be on TV when we're at home. It is never as convenient than it is on a Saturday, and if we are losing money as well then.....
  • I couldn't really see a reason why we couldn't play Sheff Weds on the Sunday afternoon though?
  • I like the idea of Charlton away games being on the tele , not that we get to choose! would save a bomb in fuel and accomodation trekking up north.
  • Sky pay the money and show they call the tune.

I'd much prefer it to be our away games but every game is a home game for someone : - )
  • one thing I think Henry forgot. For Sky games the home team gets 30k, the away team 10k. We actually lost money on the game. Last season Sheff Weds brought 2,200, this year 660. That loss of income alone is nearly 40k.
It's not. Apart from the fact that we get a substantial six-figure sum from Sky for the rights, on top of the facility fee, the average revenue per ticket in the away end isn't going to be the same as the adult price. Even if you assume that it's £20, which it won't be, that's 1540 x £20 then deduct the VAT and the "loss" on tickets is about 26k.

Which begs the question, can you refuse to be on TV when sky pick a game to be shown live?
    Guessing no

    Yes...

But then your shirt/cub sponsors might get upset if they don't get any live games.

Pretty sure you're wrong, can't see sky paying all that money for the TV rights if clubs can then get to decide if their games are shown or not....

Try telling Alex Ferguson that Man U are going to be shown live on a Monday night on a date that isn't convenient to him and get back to me with the results.

  • Bolton held up as a benchmark club for what we can achieve (minus the £90m debt) long term.(MS)

Anyone else slightly worried by this?

Way things are going we'll be in the same division next year so maybe that is what Slater meant?  ; - )
