Can't add a great deal to the two previous reports. Solly was outstanding, particularly in the first half - he's got a hint of Steve Brown about him, nothing flash but he made quite a few crucial interceptions, tackles and clearances which diffused potentially dangerous situations. He doesn't make defence splitting passes but he does make sensible passes and he doesn't take risks.
Stephens also stood out, and Wiggins had his best game so far in my opinion, and posed a real attacking threat. I really like the look of Green, he was superb on Tuesday and good today, hard work and flair. I think it's inevitable that he'll eventually dislodge Wagstaff from the starting line up, but Wagsaff once again did enough, out of his natural position, to make it very harsh to drop him when BWP comes back.
We are something special this year, if you're sitting at home following the away games on the match thread, then I strongly suggest you start getting yourself to some away games if at all possible - it's a much better day out than it was last season!
To anyone who was there or has seen the goals on tv. What was going on with the group of lads who were sitting in with our lot and when we equalized, they not only didn't celebrate but looked pissed off to boot.
Was at the game, 1st half reminded me of our performance last season against Dagenham , we were awful, thought Solly was class in the 1st half as was Wiggy. Wondered if we were in for a bad day not having Elliott and BWP in the team.
2nd half we certainly went up a few gears, both goals , bish bash bosh, well done also to the charlton fans and drummer, I'm sure it lifted the players in the 2nd half.
Thought the ref totally missed some key decisions , players being hacked down , Waggy took one in the face from SOdje and also got pulled down in the box, sat near Mr and Mrs Wagstaff, very nice family, told them they can be proud of their son , he never gives up.
Bury fan here. Congrats on the win. A few random thoughts. Closely-fought game between two teams trying to play football not hoofball and not much in it. Predicted a 2-1 win for yourselves but thought no-one could argue if it had ended a draw. Thought all three goals were very good in different ways. Great free-kick from Lowe who has been brilliant for us; good cross for your equaliser and your winner was classy. Great pass from Stephens who was impressive all afternoon and cracking finish. Certainly think you will go up. We need to keep current squad together before transfer window to survive. First team is good, but no back-up. Good support from your 500. We just can't seem to up our home support above 2,500 even though this team has been playing really well for months - frustrating. Percentage who go away is good though. See you 7th Jan.

I think it could be argued that a draw would have been fair today . We weren't at our best . I must admit i was surprised at the attendance figure , there looked more than 3000 there. Everyone in Bury was very friendly today and i enjoyed my first trip to Gigg Lane. On today's showing i'm sure you will take plenty of points at home this season. Enjoy your trip to the Valley in January.
Apparently the ref let them take a quick fee kick and he wasn't ready - still organising his wall as it sailed in. Good job Elliot wan't in goal as he would have got slagged of mercilessly by some. I said before the game that this is a game we would have lost last season and as it panned out I believe that all the more - there is something about this team and I do think we can get better which is the best thing of all.
Good point about our away games -3 very tough ones - can't see many teams getting 9 points from that treble.

I think they were Bolton fans who had come to the game but wanted to sit in a part of the ground with some atmosphere. They sat near me in the first half - pretty harmless i think.
Day started badly with pint of ribena knocked over me in dodgy local pub without apology. Then arrived at ground to discover no Elliott and no BWP. Then 1-0 down at half-time. Feared the worst. BUT fantastic spirit in this team and second half performance/ come back made trip v worthwhile. Really good that fans did not turn on team when we conceded silly goal- last year that would have led to vitriol.
Oohaah, mate- will only take your comments re crowd seriously when you make the effort to make the trip yourself... until then, I suggest you hold your peace.

MIserable lot. Didn't even clap the goal.
And Oohah is on a wind up i think. Shame travel is so costly these days as would have loved to have gone to this.
whether im at a game or not 505 (with bolton fans in our end ????) is poor in our situation
as ive said before peoples personal circumstances are all very different but how comes home/away fan ratio we are so poorly supported (numbers wise) compared to most clubs.
wednesday will bring around 3 times that to us for a live monday night game
but im only making a remark on what i think is a poor numbers turnout, should i not remark on a "great result" or the fact the few that made the trip "made a good noise and atmosphere" if im not there or just make comments that wont be considered inoffensive
wouldnt have been a new ground to me if my personal circumstances had allowed me to go cos previously, when they did, i made the effort to make the trip myself (midweek for a glamour cup tie as well , am i allowed to comment re crowd now :-)
If results and performances continue as they are people will start to really believe again and crowds both at home and away will increase considerably to the point where we are selling out allocations away on a regular basis.
I just think after 5 long years of utter garbage and a downward spiral that never looked liked ending, a lot of supporters still need to be convinced. Only time, results and performances will do that!
I will say one thing though............Charlton are back!!!!

Have to agree with that, E-cafc.
In the small group of away fans that I travel with, one is already seeking to join us for more matches than before and another , AWOL last season for various reasons, is looking to return to the fold.
It's also still school hols/Bank Hol weekend so let's not judge our fantastic away support this early in the season.
And let's not forget the cost of tickets & travel which put the day out of reach for many . Let's be grateful for what we have as I'm sure SCP would agree.

While not disagreeing with your comments about home-away fan ratio you should always remember that most teams visiting London will always have a lot of their fans who live in the capital - far more than Charlton fans living in the north-west, I expect.
There are also many like me im sure who don't live near Charlton anymore and it cost an arm and a leg just to get to the home games. I have a season ticket and Norwich to Charlton takes about two and a half hours and about 40 - 50 quid in petrol every home game. There's no way I could afford to go to many away games on top of that.
I don't think you are going to get a lot of Charlton supporters travelling to places like Bury to watch third division football however well we are playing and wherever we are in the table. Similarly, I expect we'll soon have complaints on here that home attendances haven't increased by as much as some people expected (although that's more complicated).
A good benchmark for this will be Tranmere on February 18th. If we continue to do well, I would expect us to take no more than 700. And the same people will be on here making the same remarks!
i don't think millwall or palace would of taken anymore to bury in this league, 505 isn't that bad, why does it have to be compared to our home support? bury is hardly a glamour game is it, no disrespect. if we'd of played bury away in march and were in the top two my guess is we'd of had a 1000 or so.
I wasn't at the game, but sometimes you can pick up a lot by reading the reports and watching the highlights. First of all we are benefitting from buying quality, the two finishes were of the highest in terms of technique including the balls in by Stephens and Jackson. It is obvious from this thread that Solly was a candidate for man of the match, but the report reveals that he had a couple of dodgy moments. For me that says that he is very close to being an excellent full back who plays with wonderful energy and spirit, but we need to be careful about who would replace him. Lastly it seems that Lowe was quite a handfull for our defence. Is he worth a punt ? He can't get too excited about playing in front of meagre crowds. Shouldn't be too expensive.

Lowe is I think 32 and has scored at a rate of slightly better one in two games for the last couple of seasons. With respect to Bury I'm surprised that a bigger club hasn't taken a punt on him.
Good to see Solly improving with experience and match time, he's not yet 21 and has only 30 first team games under his belt. Give him another season and another 30 odd games and we will have an even better player. With Francis and maybe Hughes I hope CP takes the long term view and doesn't over-play him.

That's a good shout Granpa. Good scoring record and good free-kick technique.(i.e take it before they're ready ;-)
I wish people on here will stop mentioning Solly's height ffs, he has been far and away our best player, height does come into it. FFS this makes my blood boil. Grrrr. Anyway another great win, were on the march with Chrissy's army! COYR

Wednesday will bring 3 times more becuase more people from sheffield have moved to London for work than London people moving to sheffield
