  • This was an important result for us. To come back at 1-0 down away from home after being outplayed for the final 20 minutes of the 1st half is some achievement. Chris got that absolutely right. Will do lots of good things for the confidence of the team. I'm very happy.  :-))))))))))))))
  • Most definitely the sort of win that we have to get for promotion.
  • Great stuff today, all we can do is keep getting results like this! Showed real character. Could it be that we finally have a team to get us out of this posh league. Just need to sign another centre half and striker and tie BWP down and we are in business.

Chuffed Charlton fan, Bring on Wednesday COYR
  • Last season this would have been 2 or 3 lost points.. So i`m positive :-)
  • Meant POXY league lol
  • Meant POXY league lol
Thought you meant, pish not posh
  • We've got a lot of away matches up north this year, so it's vital that we perform once we start heading into north west England. We don't want a reputation for being soft on the road.
  • Lanc Lad will put the player marks up when he returns from the game in the next hour.
  • I know the player marks thread isn't up yet, but is there anyone who really stood out today?

From the commentary I would say Solly
  • Outstanding result. We went behind for the first time, and we learnt that CP knows what to do at half time when things haven't gone right. And for the second time in a few days we closed out a 2-1 lead. I havent seen them live yet, but Hayes sounds to me like an under-rated player who did a good job in a different formation today.

And if Steve Brown says there's a different feeling around the team and the club this season, that's music to my ears.

  • The beers will go down nicely tonight now.

Well done lads & the 500 or so supporters who went.

  • Good solid win, 3 tough away games 3 wins. Nice to see Hayes score, didn't sound like we played as fluid as we have been doing but a win is a win and teams who get promoted have to fight and scrap for wins throughout the season.
  • other than the team the big difference was the fans this year always behind the lads an thats what we need not to start getting down and living in past when we get outplayed it is going to happen this season just like any other team CP changed things rightly and we got a really good result today well done to everyone associated with the club we should all be chuffed today
  • gotta say from going to notts county and hearing of col u and bury our vocal support on the road seems to have really improved which is great to see. Makes away games a lot more enjoyable and spurs the boys on
  • also id just like to add ray wilkins should be struck of the commentators register if there is such a thing what a penis
  • random but true :)
  • Excellent result. Steve Brown said Solly was MOM so if he says so it's good enough for me. Looking forward to comments by those there. Well done CP too. Identified problems and sorted them out at ht.
  • Just got back (oop north).  Great support.....great comeback......scored with what I think were our only two shots on target....at times in the first half our midfield got a bit congested...spread out in the second and played the ball quicker paricularly to Waggy who was a constant threat.
  • Just back from the game and very happy with the result.

CP must have inspired them at half time, because when we came out we were pretty unstoppable...first for the equaliser and then for the winner.  However, after that, we took our foot off the pedal and invited pressure which nearly cost us two points; this is a slight niggle that I now have about the side - we need to be utterly merciless and kill off the opposition and the game!

However, the plusses outweigh the minuses by far.  Dale Stephens is beyond awesome and he just controls the game; his pass for the second goal was simply outstanding.  He received the ball quickly, looked up and played a ball so sublime that I will be dreaming of it as I drift off to sleep tonight.....JJ did very well to finish it still, as he had a defender and the GK still to beat and he was coolness personified.  His work to set up the first goal was excellent and he had a great game today.

Hayes did very well today - his sheer determination, strength and guile to get the equaliser was superb and he seemed to really enjoy celebrating it with the fans, which was good to see.  He really is one hell of a player and will be invaluable to us this season.

Special mention must go to Solly, who was immense today.  He worked so hard, and even though he occasionally looked like he was going to get bullied and turned over due to his height, he fought back like a terrier and came out on top in nearly all of these situations, as well as snuffing out attacks on quite a few occasions.

I think Hamer was badly positioned for their goal, but just before this he had made a superb save when they should have gone 1-0 up.  In the second half he made another double save which he had no right to make, so his shot stopping looks pretty impressive as far as I can make out.

The defence did pretty well all game, although the last 15 mins was nervy as most of our support (including myself) expected an equaliser.  That it did not come is one of the things that shows the differences between our team last year and this year - I don't think we would have come away with the 3 points last season.

Waggy also deserves a mention because he stepped up to the plate and ran his arse off all game.  How he still had the energy to make it to the full 90 minutes I will never know - his stamina is incredible.  However, I think it became obvious that we missed BWP as we did not have a pacy player to come off the bench late in the game, which I think may well have seen us put more past them as both sides tired later on.  I think Mr Slater is right about the pacy striker - get one in, either on loan (young and pacy would be even better), or even better, permanently.

So, a great team performance - the two centre backs did well, as did the defence overall against a good footballing side (we should never underestimate the likes of Bury, or it will hurt us) who had a damn good go.  If we can strengthen our striking options (especially in light of the BWP injury) and learn to kill teams off, we are definitely going to have a glorious season.

Lots of happy Addicks at the end, a happy team and a happy manager.  Let the good times roll, COYR!

  • Interesting that in commentary the goalkeeper allowed the quick free kick for Bury, but when charlton had one, stood in front of the ball whistle in hand
  • Thought we played very well first 20 minutes of the second half. JJ has an uncanny knack of being in the right place at the right time.

Thought Waggy played very well second half and that could have been a pen. The ref was poor again today, let them take the free kick without blowing for the first goal yet made us wait for the whistle. Solly played well again.

Hayes seems lazy at times or off the pace. Thought Holland and Stephens were superb in the middle again closed down and hassled everything. Green put some decent balls in and will do much better. Amazing ball from Stephens for our second!

JJ made one an scored one not a bad day for the captain.

    Well done boys.
  • The ref was shite, Riscardo.  Pure and simple.  He didn't look bent, just inept!

  • Great to read your report bigstem.  Sounds a very good team effort.
  • agree with bigstemmara.

For Bury's goal the Charlton players just weren't ready, Hamer was still organising his wall, I didn't hear the ref's whistle, they just took it, I don't think Hamer even saw it.

Both our goals are very well crafted one in from the left with Hayes unmarked at the far post and then from the right with Jackson rushing in to his far post.

For the last 15mins we went very defensive but held out.

Pluses: The Back Four, Hollands and Stephens, team focus and morale, the fans- we made lot of noise
Minuses: Hayes, OK he scored but he missed about every other header that came down field, the way the midfield surrendered the middle for the last 15 mins.

Overall a great result that we wouldn't have achieved in the past 2 seasons.

  • There seems to be a great spirit in the team at the moment and there is definitely a bond building up with the fans too.  All good to see.
  • How did Green play?
  • in spite of our great come back i think bury were pretty aweful. they just lump the ball up from the back and their neanderthal forward run around like headless chickens hoping for scraps. i felt at half time if this is a good as they get then we have nothing to worry about,as they were one dimensional. we were poor in the first half due to trying to play them at their own game.

in the second as soon as we got the ball on the ground, the game changed instantly and two very well worked goals were a joy to watch and celebrate. i feel that our attractive football is so enjoyable and its great to see a team pushed around on their home turf.

on their goal from a free kick i was wondering what had just happened as did hamer. he stood there staring at his defenders and waving to powell in disbelief. i heard no whistle and was unsure whether the ref had allowed play to begin. a great strike but no way hamer thought it was about to be taken. it was the kind of goal that leave you wondering how/why that just happened.

overall a great away day and another three valuable points. the team worked hard and ran into the ground with some including hayes coming to a full stop, to the annoyance of his team mates. another great weekend and that has set me up for my 40th this week. thanks again Mr Powell and buy the boys a celebration drink as they deserve it.
  • Dam nearly got my prediction right. good to see we can cope with out BWP

    Up the ADDICKS !!!!!!!!
