Fair enough NLA. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I think Benson is twice the player a 34yr old Euell is and would link the player better (much better touch) plus score more goals from flourishing from Danny Green crosses as he did at D&R.
thats football mate all about opinions, i like paul he is a nice guy and an honest footballer, i would never dream of slagging a player off who is a tryer and benno would work his socks off for the cause, if i was only worried about goals then benno over Euell all day long, but i think powelly is looking at the bigger style of play,
There is every point sending benno out on loan and none of them financial now
benno deserves to play football this is not his doing and he has acted in a very professional way
we need all cafc players playing just in case of injury or suspension so it keeps him fit and potentially on form
it releases a space that a better player can fill and with Beckford going to leicester who knows their plans for Schlupp
True NLA, but the problem with using a loan spell to keep Benson fit would be that we would have to have a 24-hour recall clause in the loan and that would make it far less attractive to clubs to take him on.
Powell has said that he has no personal or professional issues with Benson, this is solely about getting money in while we can.
We know that, despite his limitations, Benson will get goals in L1, we can't say the same for any potential incoming youngsters - just look at the disaster that was Frank Nouble!!!
As for Schlupp, the bloke is in their first team squad and setting up and scoring goals - why on earth would they let him go on loan? Even with Beckford arriving Schlupp gives them something very different from the bench. I think we are barking up the wrong tree there.
I reckon your right with schlupp personally, it just doesn't seem to go away as a link, might just be the powelly link but the name keeps appearing,
I think that with powelly being ex pfa chairman he will look after players like benno, and parky won't be put off with the recall because the majority of the loanees he bought in had them with us,
I can't see benno staying tbh without a spell on loan, he deserves to play as he is a great pro who has gone up in my estimation with his attitude towards us,
No point in sending Benson out on loan, the deal was only ever about recouping the 150K transfer fee and if there is no money in it then what's the point of him going on loan from our POV?
Bottom line is that if Benson had been offered good terms by a southern club then he would have probably moved but as the best offers were from Bradford, Notts County etc then with a young family he chose to stay put.
He will play the season out here and then head off in July on a freebie and pick up a nice signing on fee at his next club.
BTW, I wish people would stop going on about Schlupp! Leicester would be mad to let him go on loan at the moment.
not true, unless Parky is lying. According to Parky, in the Telegraph and Argus, Benson had agreed to the move and was prepared to uproot his family and move up there. Then it all went pear shaped our end and the move did'nt materialise.

If it went pear-shaped at our end then it must have been because Bradford did not want to pay what we wanted for the player, there can be no other reason surely?
As I recall, we are due to pay D&R the Benson fee in (roughly) 3 X 80K tranches (this was reported at the time), therefore I guess we are pretty keen to make sure we get our money back in fulll, given that he has only been at the club for a year.
I didn't know Benson had actually agreed to go there, he must be desperate to get away to agree to a move to Bradford!!!
going pear-shaped could be because we couldn't get in the suitable replacement we wanted and so decided to stick with Benno as is our perogative. Still think he'll be off on loan so saving his wages or permanently in January. Feel sorry for him because on the face of it it does appear that we have mucked him about somewhat.
We can still re-coup some money by charging a loan fee plus freeing up his wages.
I've thought for many weeks that he would move but to a more local team such as Orient (as Gazza suggests) or Colchester but if he stays then he is not a shabby player and showed against Reading he can still score.
Beckford moving to Leicester moves Schlupp further down the pecking order so he could still go somewhere on loan.

In all seriousness, can clubs in L1 realistically charge "loan fees" - I though that was the preserve of the big boys? Can the likes of Orient really afford loan fees?

We can try, that's down to us and the other club. If Bradford were willing to pay a transfer fee why not a loan fee as long as they can convert the loan into a permanent transfer.
Orient have just sold a player so who knows and badly need to start scoring goals. 2 so far this season i think
We might need him until we get someone else in on loan.
Thought he might have been useful as a sub against Bury, for instance.
We'll have to see what happens. Would love Schlupp to arrive, but not sure that they would want to let him go with his form at the moment.
I've got a feeling CP knows exactly who he wants to bring in, and he has probably made all the arrangements already. The sooner this happens, the better!
I'd really like to see what he can do with the team we have. He's a serious threat and will keep defenders very busy. They can't cover him and BWP properly at the same time. Even with a passing game there'll be times when being able to play effective long-ball is going to be a +ve option.
But what the f*** do I know? I haven't been a professional footballer with England caps. Just like to see BWP and Benno combining upfront. I thought they looked good when PB came on in Bournemouth game.
