At his age, and bearing in mind how short his career in football has been, he should follow the money, and that means taking the longest contract he can get. He is almost certainly not independently wealthy, and he can have no idea just how long he will be able to play at league level, so he needs to protect his family's financial position.
He could stay with us and not be given another contract next season and find himself out of work. If he signs a three year deal with Luton (who are still a big club with good facilities) he is guaranteed three years income and can still be looking forward to another season as a professional footballer in two years time.
From that point of view it's a no brainer in my view.
As for us? Well we get £150k ish for a player that will be 32 in six weeks time. Sure he will score some goals for us this season if he stays, but the new owners have made no secret that they intend to manage the club more like a business, so we can hardly be disappointed when they signed so many young talented prospects if they intend to cash in on a soon to be 32 year old can we?
but why turn down League 1 Notts County to sign for Bradford IF the reason you turned down Notts C was because of distance ?
Perhaps, and this is just a guess, he really did turn down Notts for that reason. But since that decision the squad has changed so much that moving on, anywhere, would be preferable? Like I said just a guess.
I thought that he did not want to uproot his family for a two year contract, which is all Notts County were prepared to offer, not because he would not move away from where he lives now.
Just because he looks to be off doesn't mean that Powell didn't want to keep him. It's all about making the tough decisions and this is clearly one of those.

you are entitled to your opinion of course but accepting bid after bid for him and not having him anywhere near the first team kinda says to me that he wanted to sell him.
I don't think we have properly replaced Anyinsah or Sodje, so I hope we get decent replacement for Benno. Euell not going to do much at this level, his forte is in the hole, so can only play with Hayes effectively.
according to Bradford forum Rich Cawley has tweeted that a move to Bradford looks likely and that the player is keen on the move. Anyone confirm this ?
Bournemouth double deal for Francis and Benno...wonder how much that would raise...maybe £250K...add that to say £150K for Robbie and we have £400K for a striker...(all guess work)
Bournemouth have had a bid for Feeney (alledgedly from Millwall) so they really need a striker. I actually wouldn't mind Feeney signing for us but don't think the Bournemouth fans would like that.
Parkinson also confirmed that he is interested in signing the Charlton striker Paul Benson."He's a player I've worked with before, a goal-scorer, and he's one of a list of strikers that we're looking at and talking to their agents and the players."We haven't got permission to speak to Paul Benson, it hasn't got to that stage but you've got to have a lot of plates spinning at this stage with the transfer deadline looming."
Not even spoken yet !!!!!! Can't see this one happening. Benson obviously has had doubts about moving north and can't see him agreeing to move to Bradford without sleeping on it.
Lived in Bradford, and loved it. Having said that I think I'd advise any mature adult to go nowhere near it. Sure he'd commute but driving throug lum and manningham lane, or getting lost on little horton or great horton knocks Thamesmead into minor deprivation.
If he has any brains and his SE roots are true go for Luton. They're about to go on one of their quick promotion years, before club-immolating at the steps of the next Kohler dome. They'll be lot's of win bonuses, appearance fess and a damn good basic.
As someone else said go for the money and security. Liked watching him as a player and with us or without wish him the vedry best.
One particular player on Parkinson's shopping list recently has been Charlton Athletic striker Paul Benson.
The Bantams boss has revealed that he believes City were close to grabbing their man at one stage, but he now feels that any deal for the forward is beginning to look unlikely.
"It was close at one point, but we couldn't quite agree to certain criteria in the deal," explained Parkinson.
"I felt we put in a reasonable offer to him, but unfortunately at the moment it doesn't seem like it is going to get us over the line with that one."

I think he has now clearly got the message that he isn't in CP's plans despite what a few wise guys tried to tell us at the time.
