I hope that it will be quieter tonight. Perhaps the fact that all the shops have been shuttered up early and there are more police on the streets will have an effect.
Having seen the police handling football fans, and reading some of the comments above the reasons for them holding back and about them being outnumbered, I don't get it? A reasonable crowd at the Valley is 12,000 - how many cops are in attendance - they're always outnumbered, yet any trouble and they steam in anyway because they know that the vast majority won't be "up for it". If they'd treated the rioters a bit more like a football crowd they may have found them to be the same. I.e. most of those young men and women faced by a policeman on a horse wielding a baton would've thought it was time to call it a day and go home.
Im a firefighter and start my tour of duty tomorrow, rest assured if ANY of those scum come anywhere near me or my crew they will get very high pressure hose pointed in their direction, its powerful enough to take your eyes out, literally. I would have no qualms whatsoever of blinding them or running them down with my 11 tonne fire engine if they stand in my way!
Just heard (second hand ) that the police helicopters have spotted 200 kids heading up from Anerley to the Crystal Palace triangle. Hope it's not true but just passing it on.

Good for you, stay safe and that you guys for doing such a thankless job. We really appreciate what you are doing.

I'm just waiting on the first story of parents waking up today, finding a brand new 50 inch HD TV in their front room and deciding to shop their kid in...............wishful thinking or not?
I don't mean to be rude but all this rumours of stuff really isn't helping anyone.
Probably in reference to my quote and i hope i'm wrong but if you get caught driving on the Crystal Palace one way when it kicks off you're stuck there. The Sainsbury guard (Westow Hill) was in touch with the police helicopters and passed the information on.
Iwork in croydon, all sorts of rumours flying about and the shiopping centre has closed. Sparrows, where did you hear about eltham? I hope this isnt true.
It's true. Eltham being advised to shut down. My mum works nearby, shops are shutting there too.
Locals are out in force in Eltham, a mixture of Millwall, Charlton & West Ham plus other assorted loons waiting to defend it.
You going? Will be up there soon! Already know a few are up on the high street and a few of our lot will be in and around Eltham, welling and bexleyheath.
Mate who's a fireman at Woolwich said they've been playing up in Plumstead and looks as if it could go off at any time. He's heard from another station that Welling and Bexleyheath are next.

Stuff over the last few days has been pretty reliable, but sensing a massive rumourfest now
Cos history shows, that the greater the level of rumour, the more chance there is of an early leave from the office. The information been fed to my boss, from staff, has got him thinking that the whole of london is under attack and it is actually not safe to let anyone leave the building.
I hope that it will be quieter tonight. Perhaps the fact that all the shops have been shuttered up early and there are more police on the streets will have an effect.

Look at the video from woolwich last night, if the police had stood their ground they would have been overrun with ease, 12k at the valley is a bit of an unfair figure, as of that 12k how many will be involved in any trouble? How many of the rioter will fight? A hell of a lot more I'd imagine. The police should not be risking their lives against these scumbags. I imagine with a much larger police presence tonight we may see a change of tactics.
didnt wanna get involved in the rumour shite...but...just got a text from a mate who's brother is a bexley councillor. 'wellings just been done my brother gets updates' was the text.
Ok I've just had a call from my sis, she has managed to contact her son....he told her is on way home but there is currently trouble in Downham and Bromley...not sure how big (if true)....but again just passing on for information.

Hearing Gravesend is being prepared with Police and Ambulances in the town centre.
