Have you not been watching the news then? A building in Croydon that has been there for over 140 years and survived the blitz was brought to a pile of rubble, people all over the city people are losing their businesses/cars/having their homes ransacked, can't see how it's an over-reaction at all.
no need for sarcasm stu ... I meant the total closure ... something is happening and no-one wants to take a chance obviously
Unbelievable. They blame "the rich, "the conservatives", "the government". I despise them - AND I despise their parents. How can you let your kids turn out like that. Quite frankly, I hope those girls die in a car accident tonight, and the parents kill themselves with grief.
Thanks for updates all. I'll be heading home to Hither Green later, any info concerning Lewisham, Lee and Catford greatly received. A few police sirens on Kingsway where I work but not seen anything out of the ordinary so far.
Can anyone give me any definitive evdience that there is anything happening in Croydon? I need to know, as my missus will be coming home later and don't want her walking into a warzone like I did yesterday. I'm going back there tonight no matter what - but if it looks like it's kicking off again, I want to divert her to my brother-in-law's instead

I'm not sure I'd want to be working in a shop if there was any chance of it kicking off.
@Leroy Ambrose - BBC is currently showing live pictures of DC in Croydon at the furniture shop, although it's only a very small part of croydon it all seems under control there.
I have a consultant working at my place today and his wife has just called him to say she is being sent home from her job in Welling as the police have said they expect trouble there by 15.00 then moving onto Bexleyheath.
On hearing the above I just called my daughter to make sure her and the kids are in doors and she said she had heard the same and everyone is shutting up shop.

Yep, just a few kids having a bit of fun ! Nuffink else ta dooo ya no wat I meen
I think Greenwich Park is just a meeting point Seth. I have seen problems with gangs in Greenwich park over the last two summers, witnessed fighting between groups amongst the picnics. Last year's one was particularly depressing in such a beautiful spot.
I think people just have to stop spreading "apparently" rumours and only state cold hard facts.
BTW, if there was a good method of exposing faces to whatever cameras are around that would help a lot.
The problem with CCTV is it only gives you so much, I went to a trade exhibition at the NEC a couple of months ago and was amazed at some of the high-def cameras that are now commercially available. They can pick out a wart on a face from 300yds but many of the looters and rioters covered their faces so the OB will have to rely on information from the public. First to get their front doors kicked in, if they haven't already, will be the utter numpties who've posed for pictures that are on the web or other media formats, the more guarded looters will take a while to catch unfortunately.

Iwork in croydon, all sorts of rumours flying about and the shiopping centre has closed. Sparrows, where did you hear about eltham? I hope this isnt true.
It's true. Eltham being advised to shut down. My mum works nearby, shops are shutting there too.
Locals are out in force in Eltham, a mixture of Millwall, Charlton & West Ham plus other assorted loons waiting to defend it.
Just been to Bexleyheath...hardly any police up there. Most shops are now closed and told customers its for 'precautionary reasons'. Small number of youths (2/3 groups of 3) there on their phones the whole time....everyone could sense problems tonight.
My wife and I spent a restless night in our Croydon flat. Two of the major fires were only a couple of streets away and Reeves Corner backs on to my wife's mums road.
If these scum think they're so tough we should put them on the next plane to Afghanistan and point them in the direction of the Taliban. Then we'll see just how hard they are.
They are not worthy enough to fight for this country.
Because Gary those seeking to defend their high street will be those frustrated at having to watch it on telly and wanting a piece of the action. Don't want to riot but giving a rioter a kicking is the next best addrenelin rush. They won't be formed by some overriding force of good but just an excuse to get their kicks.
You defend your home. You defend your family. You leave the protecting of the local Argos and Poundland up to the police.
I went out last night and driving around for 45 min we didnt see a single police officer. So the like or argos ect wont be protected mate. I think what Gary is saying that the community will protect the community.
I was told by two police officers today that they are expecting it in woolwich again and also thamesmead. When said what will happen when we get a good number of us together tonight and end up fighting with the rioters I was told we would not be getting arrested.
I hear a few people in the pubs of Eltham with golf clubs last night in case anything went off. I honestly think the police would turn a blind eye to people standing outside shops/pubs with baseball bats ect.
Curb it, point taken about Greenwich Park, and I want to add how sorry I was that you were so close to things yesterday evening. You're one of the best posters on here, and your information is always reliable. I also get the feeling regarding your degree of upset. We must try not to let things intimidate us individually or collectively, and I hope you're OK today.
Set up a series of penal regiments on some remote far flung group of islands off the coast of Scotland. Search the military (eg Paras/Marines/Guards for the hardest and nastiest bunch of NCO's (that's corporals and sergeants if you didn't know) that can be found. Along with unforgiving hardnosed officers of a similar ilk.
Five year stay minimum........possibly reduced to three for good behaviour...similarly increased for bad behaviour.
Had a call from my sister again...she has been trying to contact one of her sons who is working in East Dulwich....cant get hold of him on either of his mobiles or landline, all she can hear from her house is sirens continually. Any info I can pass to her would be appreciated.
He is more than likely ok and in the pub having lunch!! but want to put my sisters mind at rest.
all the shops have closed up and some busienss are sending staff home, apparently there is a crowd gatehring by RSA, but not sure if thats true. Im still in the office,. be safe mate.
