Tony Warner from Tranmere is one of the best keepers in this league. I would have tried for him if i was Powell.

Sullivan. Warner has been here on loan and didn't last, settle or make the grade

Looks like it might be Hamer.

I don't think Sullivan is up to much when crosses come in to be honest. He shouts a lot but he looks nervous. The thing I'm wondering about is if Sullivan came in under the impression he was fighting Robbie for the number 1 spot then how's he going to feel when Hamer comes in? You'd have to think Robbie is off for us to bring a third keeper in, which on its own might unsettle Sullivan knowing he suddenly has a new fight on his hands. And what if Robbie isn't off? What message does that send to our current keepers, that they haven't impressed enough in pre-season to get picked? It's a strange one for sure

    just signed foster.
  • Rob saying on twitter that he will have to train hard to be number 1 does that mean that hes not first choice? and foes that mean we will haave three keepers?
  • Seems that Robbie's performance on Saturday may have been the final straw for CP. I've never been overly impressed, having seen him play on probably 15 occasions live, plus a few on TV. He does seem to be an excellent shot stopper, but seems to get beaten so often from long distant shots and free kicks. It happens too often to be put down to bad luck or Beckham quality strikes. A commanding keeper is so vital in developing a confident and strong defence that concedes goals rarely.

Hamer will be No.1 - they won't spend money on a bench warmer

His performance for Exeter against us last season is a very promising sign

    hamer!! ;-)
  • I still can't buy that we will be running three senior Goalkeepers. Either Elliot or Sullivan is surely off.

I'd need to see more of the new guys.  I don't think that Robbie has ever really let us down and he's come through the ranks so I'd like him to get the nod all things being equal.

Makes no difference if he has come through the ranks. If he is best, he gets the shirt. If not, he doesn't. Simple.

I think, as a potential source of income, he will be sold. Hamer and Sullivan is ok - and the money from Elliot can go towards a stronger CB or ST.

  • 2 more keepers to be signed by the end of the week , we're gonna have one heck of a defense!

I can't understand how Championship/Prem clubs are chasing Elliot, when he's second or third choice in this current squad. I wouldn't have him as first choice at any team that was aiming for the top half of League One or higher.

Not having a go at anyone here but this thing of setting the wall at free kicks is this down to Robbie or is it something the goal keeping coach should be working on with him ?

Bringing in Ben Hamer seems to me to indicate that Rob is not in favour. Somehow Sullivan seems to give confidence to those around him, my vote goes to him.
  • Don't see the point in paying money for a keeper who's arrival would have upset the pair of them anyway and then not play him.

    Hamer to start.

Can't really see Hamer being brought in to sit on the bench, but I can't see Sullivan being too happy about not being given a chance. If there are no offers for Rob WTF happens then? Occasional reserve matches will not keep the number 2 (or number 3) keeper match fit.

Do we have reserve matches now?

Yes a few - think they are called 'development matches'.

We had reserve friendlies last season. Doesn't look like we're entering a reserve league this season so I expect that will continue.

We've also got the Kent Senior Cup games for the reserves as well.

It certainly does and I have to say I'm pretty OK with it.

Hamer, from what limited I have seen of him, is a better keeper than Robbie and Sullivan.  As an ex goalkeeper myself I am always watching them more closely and Robbie just isn't agile enough to be a keeper.
Sullivan is hugely vocal, seems a sound shotstopper but his kicking really does worry me - he doesn't look comfortable when kicking.

For me Hamer has the jersey and it's up to someone to dislodge him now

Many on here wanted rid of Semedo and Racon as they were the mainstay of our midfield in our demise (and even though I quite liked them, I agree to a certain extent).

Cannot the same logic be applied to Elliot?
