Neither are bad players per se. Both did well at Southend (they turned down a 150k bid for Francis a few months before he signed for us). So what changed when they got to The Valley? Maybe, just maybe, it's the fault of our fitness guy. I've no evidence for that, but we have just sacked him and replaced him with Southend's fitness guy (ie the bloke who had McCormack and Francis playing well). I'd suggest if you wanted to boo/criticise anyone last season, you should have picked on the fitness guy. But no, boo-boys are too simple to look at the wider picture, and it's so much easier and more fun to pick on a player. That lot are no better than playground bullies, quite frankly. People around me boo Benson when he's warming up, ffs. They say the atmosphere at the NOTW was toxic, the same goes for The Valley these days imho.
I have no evidence to base this on but im going to assume you have no idea what you are talking about. Im also going to assume that your negativity is in some way affecting the people who sit near you, so probably best you stay away?
I can't see any negativity in this post. Booing is as negative as it gets. Try booing your child and see if that is as effective in improving his/her behaviour and attitude as a word of praise or at worst, keeping quiet. Yes, people go to football for all sorts of reasons and booing could be a substitute for clumping the wife or smacking the boss after a bad week at work. Fair enough, but booing a player will only make him worse, more nervous and more 'cant give a fuck in playing in front of this lot'. I've said this before ad nauseum. I have followed Charlton since the early 60s and there has always been a whipping boy, a scapegoat player for certain parts of the crowd. They dont like his hair, his nose, his mannerisms and they pick on him mercilessly. School playground bully stuff
I am in favour of a 'Cantona' Law, whereby if a player spots a spectator repeatedly abusing and heckling him, he can get into the crowd and stick a few on him and then stick his season ticket in his gob and make him eat it.
Some excellent points raised in this discussion , but can't we please acknowledge that the said 2 players are / have been rubbish and need shipping on please?
McCormack confirmed on twitter that he has been told to find a new club. Advised D & R were one of several clubs he was talking to. Same for Francis. Left out of Spain trip has negotiating personal terms.
I am slightly miffed by the utter mind blowing fury that some have on here towards McCormack.
Didn't set the world on fire last year, but I seem to remember some people raving about him after the Orient game at the start of the season.
And as for the meal thing. My company lost an account last week, and I went out to Gaucho with my missus as I had been stressed and working hard the last week or so and wanted to have a nice night out and forget all about it. Does that make me a bad person?
Why not just keep him? So he's not the greatest midfielder ever, but there is an argument for having a 'deep' squad. He could make appearances in the 'Painters' cup, convert in to a full back.....

If you were responsible for losing that account and you tweeted about it and then said something along the lines of sod it I'm enjoying myself and your boss were to receive that tweet I think you might see why it annoyed some people.
Francis I have some time for - not the best player we've ever had, but he looked like he gave a damn. McCormack I found hard to warm to, after a couple of decent early performances and I thought we had a player of limited ability, but one who would compensate for those deficiences by being a midfield battler and be prepared to get stuck in and tough things out. Sadly and strangely he looked disinterested, spent most of the time chasing the ball aimlessly and never seemed to fit in.
I think he's a case of the "Peter Principle" applied to football - the theory that everyone rises to their level of incompetence. At a small club he looked a good player, he worked hard there, got a move to Charlton and no doubt a decent pay rise and suitable signing on fee to boot. In more exalted company he looked out of place having to fight for a place in a match squad let alone starting XI.
If he's turned down D&R I can only presume it's because D&R have offered him something that's so far below what he's earning at Charlton that it's not worth his while moving, even perhaps with a longer contract. Fair enough, we signed him we may have to keep on paying him. For his sake I hope it doesn't wreck his career. A year of playing no football and an ordinary player may become a very forgettable player. I presume if he stays though he'll be loaned out so some unsuspecting L2 outfit can secure the benefit of his services while we pay most of his wages.
''Great header, but his all round game was superb. Ruffled a few feathers which is what you need in this league, and showed some real leadership and character, especially after Dailly went. Keeps passing simple too. Based on tonight and last Saturday, I haven't been this impressed with a new signing for years''
Henry said he was 'Immense' - having said that- it was a promising game and none of the comments were not unreasoanble - just he didn't follow it through as the season progressed.
where is the OXO tower? .. when I was a kid OXOs were made in a factory opposite Peter Pan's pool in Catford/Bellingham, I can recall the smell even now as I sit here typing

"Box to box involvement. A star in the making"
He had a good game that day, shame he didn't push on from there.
I have to say those ratings make interesting reading given subsequent comments certain people have made!
That can probably be said about all of us one way or the other though!
