Wagstaff (Eccleston 75)

Unused subs: Sullivan, Francis,Parrett,  Nouble.

Remember this lot?  If you still need a nudge to remind you just how much has changed over the summer this is the line up for the last game of last season, a nil - nil draw with Hartlepool so meaningless that the oompah lumpahs stole the show.

Now barely 8 weeks later we kick off again with the familiar trip back to Park View Road but so much has changed.  More than a dozen signings and nearly as many departures.   Behind the scenes the scouting system has been shaken up and the Academy has a new boss but that is later.

Only Elliot, Solly, Wagstaff, Docherty, Benson, Harriot's and Wright- Philips remain although Sullivan left and came back, now a permanant Charlton player.  Only BWP would seem to be guarenteed a starting place come August 6th although Johnnie Jackson, fit but not risked v Pools, is still likely to be number one choice on the left side of midfield.  Francis maybe gone before the Welling game kicks off.

Players will be rusty and Powell has already said he'll play different XIs in each half.  At least those who go will see most of the new faces.  Fans of Mikel Alonso will have to wait a little longer as he is still in Spain.

Much will be read into who starts and who doesn't and which combinations appear but it's far too early and Powell's trip around T-K Max doesn't not yet show any signs of stopping.

A day in the sun drizzle to include one hoof into the main road, an appeal for boys to get behind the railings at the Park end, a pitch invasion and a comfortable 2 - 0 win for the new look Addicks

misread that lol thought you meant the last game against welling not of the season
  • Never expect too much from this game.  Don't expect a big scoring game - even in the Premiership days when, in theory, we should have walked these games - always seemed to struggle a bit.  Think Welling always try harder to get a win or at least a goal.  Really going along to try and get an idea what this new bunch even look like and to see if anyone stands out.  Want to see the German triallist get a game and hope that if he plays as well as Bolanas played (was it last year or the year before - all starting to blur a bit!) then he gets a contract.

Expect 1-1 or maybe 2-1 to us.  Be surprised to see any more goals than that especially if CP mixes it up a bit.
  • get there early, i would imagine turnstiles will be open on both sides of the ground but its sure to get very busy from 230pm
  • This is going to be a gentle exercise in the sun (hopefully!), a workout to get players familiar with each other during game conditions -

players will be specifically instructed not to bust a gut.

It won't be a full blooded encounter, so no point being disappointed. But it will be good to catch up with mates, enjoy a beer and try and put names to faces. In any case, we MUST beat Welling!

Can you get a beer in the ground (I believe so) , but can you take in onto the terrace ? (I believe not).
  • Could last year but a couple of games later they stopped it. So see what they are doing tomorrow.
  • Match Odds..

    Welling 6/1
    Draw 16/5
    Charlton 4/11

If you're mad enough to bet on pre-season games..
  • out of interest wellingfan, do you support any other team or just welling?
  • Bring it on!

    Because i won't recognise a sausage tomorrow

For all i know the Welling players could swap their shirts with the Charlton lads before the game ,& run out , i wouldn't recognise any of them , and still cheer them on unknowingly.

  • Wellingfan, no disrespect but this time of year is when your most popular on the forum, can i ask how does it feel to be outnumbered at a home game by away fans

  • half the charlton fans there probably support welling as well. looking forward to this!
  • cray addick no offense but its great the addicks fans turn up in pre season despite them not being the premier league team anymore, i think your in league one now?, i couldnt care less if we get outnumbered 1:50. Im just glad the football season is around again and hope our two teams have good seasons.

I don't live in the area now but when I did (erith) I can't remember ever going to watch erith & belvedere play are they still going? i can remember going to watch welling & bexley united, though not who against. would I be right in saying you could sneak into the ground from danson park?

are you now finically secure and good luck for the forth coming season?

A mix of the young and experienced. I'll be interested to hear reports on Ruben Bover.

So that leaves - Sullivan; Solly, Morrison (or Osbourne if he isn't ready), Doherty, Evina; Green, Hollands, McCormack, Harriott; Hayes, BWP (or something pretty similar) for the 2nd half.
  • Popo a youth player?.
  • Tom Harvey got it wrong, Hayes instead of Benson in the first half.
  • Popo a youth player?.
    First year pro.

    Why are you mentioning Osborne?

    & the german trialist??
  • No BWP he already confirmed he's not playing, and I would expect a trialist or two to play in the second half
  • Any one on trail playing?
