Plenty of wingers offer either pace or crossing ability as one of their main strengths. Unfortunately you don't often get a winger who offers both at the highest level. For example, look at the calibre of player if you could combine say Lennon's pace and Downing's ball-striking - alone neither will ever be world class. As Scoham says, good options... Green has definitely got a lot of qualities to put aside the fact he isn't a whippet like Wagstaff - also allows having a left-sided player like Martin who is rapid and not losing the balance in the side.
It'll be a change for Charlton to have a good crosser instead of just pace. I mean look back at the wingers in the previous seasons and it's been only pace and no delivery, i.e Reid, Eccleson, Waggy, Newton, Ambrose, Rommedahl.
Still think Wagstaff would be better off as a support striker playing more centrally, don't think he has got the necessary skill-set to be a winger. The way I see it his key assets are his pace, workrate and eye for goal.
Im sorry but No1 can knock Waggy, he has had 2 great seasons imho.
He has his flaws but so does every player in the world.
It's a forum for opinions, nobody is knocking him, it's about recognising his strengths and weaknesses which obviously he has both, if he had few or no weaknesses he would be a Premier League player wouldn't he?
I don't know how old you are covered end junior, but I like a lot of your contributions to this site. I agree 100% with the above statement. As for Wagstaff, I think he will be used as an impact player from the bench this year if Green's signing comes off.
Thanks and im 16.
I think covered end junior needs a scouting job a the club!
sorry new to this site and whilst looking back throught the thread I notice everyone waiting for announcement on o/s. What and where is that?
People are waiting for an announcement re. Green on the official website (O/S) to confirm that he's signed... until then there is the worry that we might be beaten to the punch
Already been mentioned but pre season starts on Thursday so if there are "done and dusted" deals then we should know by then. Would think CP and co would be very keen to get as many signings in the door by Monday next week latest in order to get a team out of so many newbies. Would expect any loans to plug gaps to come in much later.
1 He signed in the US and they want to wait till he gets back for the photos etc
2. There were no more shirts in the shop for him to hold up in the obligatory photo
3. Steve Kavanagh hates Charlton Life and so is deliberately holding back the news to annoy all of you.
4. It's fallen thru' and he's off to Palace
5. The club are saving up this and the four other signings/re-signings for a big announcement on Thursday, same day that we learn Robbie has gone to Leeds for £300k

It'll be great to see a 'beckham' like player.
I hope so
That's quality.
Why no annoucenment? Because the whole of the department were too pissed to type!
