Plenty of wingers offer either pace or crossing ability as one of their main strengths. Unfortunately you don't often get a winger who offers both at the highest level. For example, look at the calibre of player if you could combine say Lennon's pace and Downing's ball-striking - alone neither will ever be world class. As Scoham says, good options... Green has definitely got a lot of qualities to put aside the fact he isn't a whippet like Wagstaff - also allows having a left-sided player like Martin who is rapid and not losing the balance in the side.
  • It'll be a change for Charlton to have a good crosser instead of just pace. I mean look back at the wingers in the previous seasons and it's been only pace and no delivery, i.e Reid, Eccleson, Waggy, Newton, Ambrose, Rommedahl.

It'll be great to see a 'beckham' like player.

  • don't see pace being an issue, if he can keep at a lb for 75mins then we can bring waggy on to run at them it'll work.
  • Still think Wagstaff would be better off as a support striker playing more centrally, don't think he has got the necessary skill-set to be a winger. The way I see it his key assets are his pace, workrate and eye for goal.
  • Wagstaff reminds me of Walcott. If he hasn't got the space to beat a player for pace then he's not really got a plan B.

I said exactly the same sentence about 2 days ago to a mate discussing the Green transfer

Doesn't seem to know what to do to deliver the ball and the more time he has it only exacerbates the problem
  • Im sorry but No1 can knock Waggy, he has had 2 great seasons imho.
He has his flaws but so does every player in the world.

He had a great season last season and his only real flaw is the inconsistency that affects all young players

It's a forum for opinions, nobody is knocking him, it's about recognising his strengths and weaknesses which obviously he has both, if he had few or no weaknesses he would be a Premier League player wouldn't he?
  • sorry new to this site and whilst looking back throught the thread I notice everyone waiting for announcement on o/s. What and where is that?

I don't know how old you are covered end junior, but I like a lot of your contributions to this site. I agree 100% with the above statement. As for Wagstaff, I think he will be used as an impact player from the bench this year if Green's signing comes off.
    Thanks :) and im 16.
I think covered end junior needs a scouting job a the club!
    lol i wish.

People are waiting for an announcement re. Green on the official website (O/S) to confirm that he's signed... until then there is the worry that we might be beaten to the punch
  • thanks for that. Well heres fingers crossed. I'm not too concerned as cafc are famously reluctant to release info to fans.
  • Already been mentioned but pre season starts on Thursday so if there are "done and dusted" deals then we should know by then. Would think CP and co would be very keen to get as many signings in the door by Monday next week latest in order to get a team out of so many newbies. Would expect any loans to plug gaps to come in much later.
  • All a bit previous that Talksport stuff
  • i've given up caring with all these sites banging on, they all copy and paste eachother,
  • Sheff wed, peterboro ready to match the bid
  • oh dear. However, as it seems, he has already agreed to sign it would be disapointing if he renages on that.
  • As Rothko says that is a replica of the SLP's line first thing on Friday... over 3 days ago

think as Rothko says that is all old news
  • and it's all a bit pointless, cause I'm 99.9999% certain his signature is already on a playing contract for us

    I hope so :D
  • Why no official announcement ?
  • Cause the whole communications department was on a stag do on Friday
  • Isn't Green still in Vegas as well?
  • And this morning is a sloooooooooooooooooooooooow morning, Hangovers have to be earned.
  • That's quality.

Why no annoucenment? Because the whole of the department were too pissed to type!

  • His agent is one of the chuckle brothers, hence the delay.
  • Possible reasons why it hasn't been announced

1 He signed in the US and they want to wait till he gets back for the photos etc

    2. There were no more shirts in the shop for him to hold up in the obligatory photo

    3. Steve Kavanagh hates Charlton Life and so is deliberately holding back the news to annoy all of you.

    4. It's fallen thru' and he's off to Palace

    5. The club are saving up this and the four other signings/re-signings for a big announcement on Thursday, same day that we learn Robbie has gone to Leeds for £300k
