The Udinese info sounds intriguing, but we've had these link-ups before, they haven't come to much.
An interesting bit though, is that Udinese do have a massive pool of players, who they part own with other clubs & they loan out to clubs around the world. Never heard of owt like that before.
Good signing by the way, did well at Bolton. Will give us a bit of class lacking in this division, in a way that Stewart did, without being such a ginger mercenary.
Meant he come from Tenerife; as in signed from 'em
Udinese have just propelled Granada CF back to La Liga in Spain with their loan-link up scheme with the likes of Dani Benitez, Oscar Perez, Alexandre Geijo and Jonathan Mensah playing on-loan in Granada this season turning newly-arrived, pleased to be here's into a free-flowing force.
Granada were promoted from third tier to second in 2009-10 thanks to the shot in the arm from Udinese providing half their squad for peanuts and have gone straight through winning the play offs in 2010-11 to compete in the top division next season for the first time since the mid 1970's.
If we could get something going with Udinese we could be on to a very very good thing.
Udinese's academy are churning out top level international footballers at an almost unparalleled rate at the moment.
Alexis Sánchez and Cristián Zapata are just the tip of a whopping great iceburg.
I'm afraid Bojan going to Roma tonight has pretty much cleared the desk for Sánchez to go to Barcelona... I'm sure Chris was on the phone til the last though
No idea of how good this fella is but at least we're having a go in the signings department if you don't have a gamble there's more chance of standing still , so fingers crossed re all these new signings cos I don't think anyone of our fans will have seen more than a dozen games from any of these newbies
If we get a pacy (and decent) centre back in , I'd be more than happy with Doc starting. likewise, more than happy with Francis starting -could be a breakthrough season for him with us. I not saying they were brilliant last season but I coulkd see that they could be good. Collectively Dailly and Doc were on the slow side. As for Francis, He is tall, athletic, gets invoved in games, can put in a good cross and also showed on occasions that he can defend. Needs to improve concerntration and make more right choices but an attacking full back is going to get caught our a bit more than a more defensive one. Solley is very good too defensively and it will be down to how the play in the friendlies but my money is on Francis.
And as for Alonso, if he can put his foot his foot on the ball he could be effective for us.

Mutley - you make a lot of sense. I agree that Doherty with the right partner could really work. To me at least Doherty can be dominant in the air, something that Dailly certainly is not when faced with a "big lump" up against him. Also Dailly is out of contract so it makes sense to move on. There's no time for senimentality - so we should ship out Dailly, Fortune and Youga. With such a small squad we can't carry players that are always injured. I was concerned when Powell described Dailly as a "leader of men" - I did not see that last year at all - we all know that certain other players could not give a crap. I would not expect a "leader of men" to lead a team that showed no balls for most of the season(I am not saying that Dailly had no balls - I just did not see him inspire others). To all the crap that has been written about Mark Hudson being the worst captain we've ever had; to be honest I was n't sad to see him leave, but he (and even Paddy McCarthy) had a lot more about them than Dailly. Re Francis, I have often though that but then he will just do something you would expect from a Sunday League player such as slice the ball off the pitch or just get completely skinned by a winger. I agree that he has attributes that may be able to turn him into good enough player for a League One team. A pacy Centre Half would certainly put a different slant to the new back line. The signings so far look good - but I think that the quality of the new Centre Half will give us an indication of how well we'll do next year.(I see that Rueben Hazzell has just left Oldham - would be a perfect signing IMO)
Hi, Tenerife supporter here reporting on Mikel Alonso. You have got yourselves a good hard player there in Mikel and he can get himself in the box frequently as well for goal scoring chances. He played a bit part in CD Tenerife´s last season to be honest as he was injured then there was an alledged problem with his contract.
We had a hopeless season and we have now fallen from La Liga (Premier) to 2nd B in the space of a year. We have had to get rid of 20 players this summer (can´t afford the wages now) most we say good riddance to except three players who fought all the way and Mikel was one of them.
Slightly different subject but I was reading today in the Spanish press that Italian team Udinese have a sort of agreement with Charlton is this true? The four club link is as follows ; CD Tenerife, Charlton, CF Granada (just been promoted to La Liga) and Cadiz. It is either a done deal or a proposed deal. Basically Udines have a pool of 90 odd players and they then loan them out to "their clubs".
btw, I run a CD Tenerife Fan Club, Armada Sur and 100´s of ex-pats follow Tenerife at home matches and many away games on the mainland.
three centre halves, another central mid, wide left, wide right, another striker. Another 7 in my opinion. Then a couple of young loanees to bolster the squad.
But, o how this Board is collapsing into silliness. 3 pages and hardly any info on him. Into the Valley had some real info - first time i have ever said that site is better. Come on CL let's get back to number 1!

Would guess two centre halves, one from from this division (The Beast from Col U) plus Dailly, Youga, Martin or Green but not both before 1 July.
Then another striker and attacking wide player on loan in late Aug/2nd week in September.
aye but loanees might bring it up to that number, I guess if they are good ones..
CP at Bromley said he wasn't particularly in favour of loans unless they were season long loans and even then would only like a couple. Said other than that it would only be short term loans in the case of absolute emergencies.

even if The Beast and Dailly signed we'd still need another. Can't rely on Youga and in my opinion we won't see him in a Charlton shirt again as he'll either not get fit, get injured again or bugger off back to France.

You two are making a lot of sense. I'd be happy with Francis at right back, Doherty at centre back and Evina at left back (If anyone knows the requirements for a good left back it is Powell). I'd go for Mambo alongside Doherty. He's what is needed, a big, tough, no nonsense defender who will learn a lot from the Doc who is, after all, an experienced league and international player. If Mambo never gets a start we'll never know how good he is. Keep Llera (if he's willing to stay) and spend what little money we supposedly have on midfield and attack where more class and power and pace is urgently needed.
I think Mambo could be that player but Powell says he needs to progress - I think he was kept on because he ticks all the boxes and could yet come good but we can't forget that he hasn't made the strides we expected. I think he'll need to take the opportunity but If I was thinking of centre halves, he wouldn't be in my thoughts for first choice at the moment. The ball is in his court as to whetehr he can establish himself this season but we need to bring another couple of centre halves in and a pacy first choice at that. I'd be happy with Dailly as a reserve but would he? I think we would see the best out of him if he played the 10 or so games he could be expected to play.

Mambo's weaknesses are similar to Doherty's, both lack pace and are uncomfortable on the ball. It just wouldn't be an improvement on last season.
We'll need at least one centre back that is decent on the ball if we're going to play good football.

Sounds like his signing could be a real coup!

Not sure we can rely on Youga but I think CP is willing to take a punt on much lower wages.
Will be interesting if Dailly and Doc depart as we'd need 4 new CB's which could be a difficult task.
I agree - If Mambo comes good - brilliant but he has been given another year on the off chance he does I think, rather than the expectation.
