  • what oohaa said no grown man would call him sir or saint lighten people.
  • CP may or may not deserve his knighthood. If he does where does that put our other legends? Players with over 300 appearances include Keith Peacock (our true Knight IMO), Steve Gritt, John Hewie, Bob Curtis, Mike Flannagan, Nicky Johns, Brian Kinsey, John Robinson and so on.
  • How many England caps did any of the above win and how many of their appearances were in the top flight of english football .......

And as I said above if the internet and banter had existed in those long gone days , they'd have all had titles
I small think some of you freaks aren't in love with SCP the player prolly the same goons who aren't so keen on Sir Alan Curbishley

Wales doesn't count , even morison got a cap for that bum nation !

  • [cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]I think it's funny that Dick feels the need to pull people up for calling Chris Powell "Sir" on here when it seems he is not at all embarrassed when Powell is daily called names such as "cretin" and "clown" on the other site he posts on.

And before you say it Dick, no you don't call him that but neither do you challenge those who do.

Yet you seem quite happy to challenge those on here who continue to use a term of respect that was common place long before he was manager.

You seem to be using this as a stick to beat me with. I will now go onto the Into thevalleymessageboard find the thread,if i can, and post what i think on that thread. Then you can have a look at it and give it your seal of approval. Is that alright with you Henry? Perhaps we should call you Saint Henry, because you have never posted anything derogatory have you? Oh yes posting on a football message board that someone hasn't paid a bet to a Charity. Do you think that is right?

With the number of appearacnes Keith Peacock had for CAFC it really does put CPs England caps into perspective. I don't think the level played comes into the equation......we are talking about the Club and it's heroes. I find CPs knighthood shallow and desperate, perhaps a reflection of the way we live nowadays

LOL, yes let's make it about me when it was your hypocrisy we were talking about. Yes, do go and post what you think about people calling Powell a "cretin" but will you be able to do it without slagging off me or CL?

And yes, since you raised the £20 unpaid bet issue again (not me, you) someone promising to pay a bet to the Upbeats and then constantly dodging paying that bet for over 4 months (and as far as I know having still not paid) is worth mentioning. And before you say it I offered (privately) Reams the chance to give me the money. He dodged that. I sent him (privately) a link to pay the money on-line. He dodged that too.

I don't think anyone in this thread has criticised cp, criticism has been of people going over the top in making him into a deity.

As for your curbs comment, well as you are wrong re dislike of cp, you totally miss the mark with curbs, another legend but nobody has been calling him sir Alan and he did more for this club than any player over the last 20 years.
  • curbs has been called Sir Alan on numerous occasions

Remember when Charlton sacked Bob Stokoe, (who later won the FA Cup for 2nd Division Sunderland and promotion to the top flight)........?

He was replaced as manager by almighty Charlton legend and free scoring goal hero, Italy international and ex-Inter Milan, Eddie Firmani.

Firmani even guided us to one place off promotion to the top flight 1st Division, but when it all fell apart and he lost the dressing room, he was sacked. No sentiment.

Legends, eh? To directors and fans alike, they are only as good as their last win.

Or in the current circumstances their next season!
  • I find it very similar to the way we changed our playing style when Dowie took over from curbs.

Dowie liked the ball on the floor, keeper to roll it to the defenders etc but couldn't get results, whereas curbs knew how to play certain teams and sometimes produced dire football (reason why fans started booing etc).

Ah, so Parky really was the 'new' Curbs.
