“The gaffer was happy with the job I was doing for the team, but he said I can go forward as well. He makes me believe I can go into the box and score.
“He doesn’t want me to just be defensive midfield, he wants me to be a complete midfielder, going box-to-box.
“I’ve been trying to update this to my game and I may keep scoring. This is the first one of the season and after the first one, anything’s possible.
“I don’t want to wait another year and a half to score, so I will try to get into the box more. If you go into the box, you have a chance of scoring.”

unless Jose is really Dean Parrett can't say I've noticed any difference.
My man love for Semedo is pretty well known on here but this kind of quote is as rare as a rocking horse poo in modern football.
I'd like to think he will be offered a new deal and it will probably have significant "promotion" clauses - whether that's enough incentive is anyones guess but if I put my "loyal" head on i'd hope his thought process would be "I've been paid a lot for league 1 football so why not take a cut on the provisio I get more to get us out of this place"
For what it's worth I also noticed on Saturday that he played a much more advanced role and was even pressing the keeper. I wonder if Mr Stewart's arrival has made him change his ways or if its just something Powell has asked of him. Admittedly Parrett also tracks back so maybe Jose isn't constantly having to cover for the wandering Therry beside him
Either way Jose - my love for you just got cranked up a notch
i'm with large , jose had a great season last season , this year countless passes given away and nowhere near the high perforamce he put in last season
and he's our defensive midfielder and we haven't kept a clean sheet for 13 games
not the end of the world if he goes, he is a very limited footballer
and i struggle to get too excited about any of the players who have been in our side for large parts of this most dismal of times to be a charlton supporter
I'd rather have him doing the tunnel jump than fatboy Elliot!
I don't get all the negative talk about 'he needs to be a squad player, nothing more' next season. Does everyone really think that we have 10 million quid to spend on Premiership players for the entire starting 11? I got news for you, we don't, and even if we did, why would they want to come to us?
We say he needs to have reduced terms for his contract, as 8k a week is far too much, then immediately talk about people like Parrett joining full time. I'm sorry, but does anyone think Parrett or other promising young premiership players are going to come here for much less than 8k a week?
If we're going to play 4-4-2 he should be a squad player. If we're going to play 4-3-3/4-5-1 he should be the anchorman in midfield. All depends on the system we're going to play.
Its simple really, in the summer we replace players who are not good enough with players that are. We then have a better squad. Players are asked to play to a system. If they do it well they are in the team. If they don't they are out until they get another chance.
Can't see him staying personally, nice a moment as Saturday was , our cenre midfield has not been good enough and needs overhauling IMHO , sorry to disagree with a lot of you, he does show a lot of heart, probably his best performance in recent times, I don't think he has had a lot of competition to be honest, if he goes to Palace or Millwall which I think he will, I'll still wish him all the best.
On his day he is awsume, however those days have been far and few between this season.
On saturday he was woeful first half but excellent second.
Personally I love the man and would love him to stay but he needs to improve, as will any player in league one - thats why they are playin in league one
the guy is more than proficient on either full back or defensive mid, whether he is the answer in a 442 I take the point, however not sure why any squad in this div or the champs wouldn't make room for him
It's just a delight to have a player who cries for us rather than the other way around. Good to see Jose pushing forward and breaking up play higher up the pitch rather than 5 yards in front of the defence - and the bonus is he scored a goal.
There is no way Semedo would play for Palace or Millwall - I think he will have shown Powell enough for him to be kept on and as long as we don't try to haft him financially, I'm sur ethe deal will be done.As razil says, he is a player at this level who you ensure you accomodate. You build your team around your best players and he is definitely one of those.
Excellent player - flexible player - committed player - passionate player - loyal player.
What is not to like. Sign him up, play him in he first team, we will not get any better and he is more than capable of playing for a team in the Championship so i have no doubt he can play for a team on the way up to the Championship next year.
As I posted immediately after the game on Saturday, it just feels so good to win with Chris Powell as manager and with Jose Semedo scoring, 2 of my favourite players of the modern era.
I am with Large & Ooh Aah on this, some people really do have short memories. He has been part of the mIdfield that has failed for the last four seasons. I am not in anyway against him being offered a new contract, just think we should have a slightly more dynamic midfield if we are to ever entertain going up next season, doubtful we would with Semedo in central midfield every week in my humble opinion.
Love the guy and would be very happy to see him stay. However, if he stays he needs some competition. I am about as much competition as McCormack has been this season so would be good to see Stewart sign as well to give an extra option in CM.
If he goes, wish him the very best and sure he can play at a higher level.
Not comparing him as a player to CP, but Semedo's goal on Sat was a bit like Powell's v Cov, great moment in an otherwise disappointing spell.
I still think given how poor we are in defence he should be back at his natural position of centre back or even at right back (he played very well there a few times). It would also take the pressure off him as his passing is awful. A great defensive midfielder should be someone who not only breaks up opposition play but has a very high pass completion percentage, and he must have the worst in our team.
Love his effort and commitment though, I must say I felt for him a bit on Saturday as he was obviously so emotional to have finally scored at The Valley, especially in front of the Covered End.

how anyone can see a negative in this I do not know, passion and loyalty are so rare in football, and a player of his quality is saying this about us.
did they ask if he "really dislikes Millwall"?
Sign him up now![/quote]
We asked him that in an interview last season. His response was along the lines of "Of course I do, I have to really".
One of the easiest and most enjoyable articles I've put together for the Shopper. Easy to talk to and such a deserved, memorable moment.
unless Jose is really Dean Parrett can't say I've noticed any difference.
ok, how many other times did he get in the box on Saturday, or at Rochdale, away at Bournemouth, home to Saints ?
Errrm, not many if any at all. One goal and he's suddenly Frank Lampard.

I love you
I really do....
You are fast approaching my favourite player ever. Rufus currently holds that title, but you are approaching.
Love you big man

CatJnr asked him if he liked Millwall at the Young Addicks Christmas party - he smiled and said No! Top bloke.
He was asked this in an interview the season before and he said 'Who are Millwall? Why do I hate them?'
Love the bloke, I hope we do offer him a contract for life and player of the season. He was genuinely gutted not to win last year.
Couldn't agree more and while were at it. I want him doing the tunnel jump when we win.

Our problem in the last two seasons is that we have had a good team but a weak inflexible squad , which suffered once injuries started .
Powell talked about taking the load away from Semedo and Stewart could do this as well as playing alongside him in a 4-4-2 .
On saturday he was woeful first half but excellent second.

I just hope he stays. 1st name on my team sheet week in week out. Got a lot of man love for jose
He could be the first ever six yard box to six yard box midfielder on that performance ;-)
