We certainly looked as good as I can remember during the spell at the start of the second - we need to find a way to increase the numbers of these spells as that's how you win games. Defensively we seem a bit fragile though.
Said it before Saturday but i'll say it again. If we are seriously considering signing Stewart for next season he MUST start the remaining seven games alongside Parrett. We know what Jose can do and what he can't so I can't see the point in persevering with him now. If we can get Parrett on a season long loan next season, and let's face it he ain't gonna get anywhere near the Spurs first team, then we have the makings of a very good midfield duo for the assault on the League One crown next season.
Good performance, the second half was as we played for the whole 90 minutes at Rochdale and I don't see why we can't start like that. We need to play at that tempo for the whole game. Left very happy for once, long may it continue. Win the last seven and we may still make the play offs !!
A game of two halves. First half was like something from an episode of twin peaks. How their keeper did not get booked in the first half for time wasting I will never know. I come to watch a game of football for 90 mins, not to watch someone mince around a football. funny that the keeper had a bit more urgency when losing 3-1. Tossers. Overall an exciting game to watch if you forget about the 1st half. Scoreline could easily have been 5-5. Orient have a couple of decent players and might have got something from this game had their chances not hit the woodwork ( and maaaan don't we know how they feel! ). Just goes to show what a bit of fight, luck and skill can get you these days. Altogether now.........We're gonna bounce in a minute.................
Ah, a victory. Forget how enjoyable it could be, and also forgot how the post count dramatically drops on here when we win :-)
Universally slated for the first half, but if you were a neutral i think you would have thought it was a very decent game of football for League One if you weren't so caught up in our hellish run. Both teams tried to play football and the game was very open. The huge frustrating point for me at half time was that you expect in this league to be occassionally beat up and outmuscled by teams with much smaller budgets occassionally, but we have also been outplayed in a football sense by the opposition far to many times than we should. The first half on Saturday was another example, and if we had gone on to lose the game i would have attached zero probability to Powell being here in the Summer.
But it was noticeable in the 2nd half right from the whistle we come out with more purpose. The tempo and attacking intent was clearly raised and it just showed at this level how teams can struggle once they are put under the cosh. The equalizer noticeably gave us a lift and i feared when we never followed it up with another in the 15 mins after the goal with all the pressure we had. Couple of great saves from their keeper, including a world class one.
An then the moments which may ultimately keep CP in a job, and just shows how sometimes a bit of good fortune can make all the difference. The ref sees a push no one else sees and chalks their (very much against the run of play) goal off, and their keeper undoes all his good work with a hilarious act of casualness.
BWP is reminding me more and more of a pre-Charlton Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink; doesn't show too much around the pitch but comes alive in the box and is pretty much guaranteed to either score or make the keeper work.
Benson made a big difference for me. He is not great, and league one is definately the highest level he will get to, but christ he put in a shift, won a lot of arial ball, and generally made things uncomfortable for their back four. Racon frustratingly is growing with every game, and when on form is a class above this level.
All in all, a really enjoyable game of football with a pleasing outcome. It was a well deserved reward for the fans who have stuck with it in recent weeks. Thought the crowd, from 5 mins before KO to the very end were absolutely superb given our dire run.
What a shame that 2nd half performance and result come about 8 games too late.
Yes, we are at a point now where we are looking for signs that next season will be better, and they were there. I liked Chrissy's after match comments when he said we were too passive first half and the fans demand more - We certainly need to use the remaining games to bed in a more offensive style. The abtly described passive style has to be surgically removed from our repotoire.
I am heartened - I didn't see Rochdale as a backwards step as from the reliable accounts I received, they couldn't have complained if we won that game and we were the better team. Yes we were fragile at the back as we were on Saturday but if you are the better team every game, you will win most of them. Benson has proven that at this level he is more than capable of finding the net and BWP more so, so next season we will have 2 proven goal scorers at this level so that has to be a positive start.
Stewart looked very good in the short cameo and Powell seems to be getting the best from Racon and Semedo is Semedo. If we can keep these together and strengthen defensively and make the squad a bit stronger - players of McCormacks ability - no disrespect as he does his best - shouldn't be anywhere close to our starting 11 - then maybe we could take the division by storm next season.
Of course false dawns are a Charlton staple so we can't get too carried away - just you can see what needs to be done and maybe not as much needs to be done as we might have suspected.
Deighted to predict the correct score despite the mocking from the doubters and cynics now backing Saint Chris again.
This win was on the cards after the Southampton and Bournemouth fight-backs which re-built sagging confidence.
Also pleased to back Saint Chris to start to turn things around trying to play football good enough for promotion not hoofball good enough for secure wins against poor teams.
We are still fragile at the back and too lightweight in midfield but the second half was by far the best I have seen at the Valley this season and last season.
Great to see Dailly in the Beckenbauer role, striding forward from defence and he would be great sweeper in a back three. Hats off to Benson who I have criticised in the past as part of Parky's Abott and Costello comedy act. He was superb on Saturday and fully deserved his standing ovation.
Poor first half display but decent second half. As soon as we started pressing Orient they became very nervous in possession. Dailly was outstanding carrying the ball forward and getting moves started. Great to have a proper striker in BWP, terrific finisher.
FAO Colin Powell and his team: I don't usually notice but the pitch looked particularly fantastic on Saturday.
TBH I didn't think the first half performance was that poor. I went up for my HT pee thinking I'd seen a decent half of open and attractive football from both sides.
We played ok first half and much better second half. Fully deserved win. Plenty of opportunities other than the goals. Even though our second was a howler from their perspective, the keeper could've done better for the first and they hit the woodwork twice late on, I still think that 3-1 was about right. Their goal had a large element of firtune to it and their keeper pulled off some good saves.

They say it all.
As Chris Powell said himself 'Don't expect Llera to get it, anticipate the 2nd ball'.

I agree.
Certainly not poor as in the pre Saints at home performances.
Last time they both played, they scored three goals between them.
Parrett played too.
