what about when leaburn mk2 swivelled on the edge of the box and swung at the ball and hit the bar .... well it would have been the bar if the jimmy seed stand was the worlds biggest goal
[quote][cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite][quote][cite]Posted By: LenGlover[/cite] Final question which will appear stupid as I was at the game: was it 1-0 or 2-0? I saw Weston's shot go in but wasn't sure whether the ref had already blown or not.[/quote]

what happened at the end cos all i saw was solly made to look like a schoolboy as he was shrugged off the ball and the ref blew his full time whistle and then i thought the brentford player at the same moment put it in the net ..... i thought the ref saved solly there or was he fouled or something[/quote]
As far as I can remember the shot went into the side netting....could be wrong though as I was so dumbstruck by yet another clueless performance he could have overhead-kicked it into the far corner.......
Appalled at negativity on here. Many players out, they scored with their only real chance, A corner when our best two defenders (and over 6 foot) had gone off, and a new strikers perhaps not up to speed at set plays. We could easily won by two or three.
Weston beat Solly with ease and slotted the ball home but the ref blew for full time just before he shot.
I think Brentford were the worst team I've seen at The Valley this season bar Charlton. We had more efforts on goal than Mk & Tranmere put together but the football was appalling. Our strikers didn't fashion one chance between them and the only one who looked likely to score was Llera (from McCormack's delivery). It was another total non-event in terms of entertainment but I guess at least Brentford's goalie has had to do something unlike those of Tranmere, MK, Walsall........

Sorry Tranmere are the worst team I have seen at the valley this century
[quote][cite]Posted By: Nozza2310[/cite]Totally agree with harveys gardener.
Could of, Would of, Should of. But didn't. Maybe we created a few more chances than we have done recently. Would be nice to see someone actually get a shot on target instead of row Z too.
I enjoyed our attempts to play football today but still have hangovers of Parky's regime of get rid of the ball. We need time and our injured players back.

[cite]Posted By: Jimmy Seed Shooter[/cite]I have just about got over my disappointment at todays showing enough to be bothered to comment, this is without doubt the worst Charlton team i have had the misfortune to witness. We have a short inexperienced keeper wearing a pink shirt,an ancient center half who was replaced with another past it centre half, a left back who should play at center half due to his lack of footballing ability. In the midfield we have a Portugueser whose only attributes are tackling and putting in a lot of effort, a short bald bloke who cannot tackle, pass, shoot or keep up with the play and a French man who bearly tackles, cannot shoot, does too many fancy flicks and could not split the oppostions defence with a pass if his life depended on it. Up front we have brought in another striker who has very little skill and lacks the ability to hold the ball up sufficiently well to mount a sustained attack, surely if we are going to bring in new players they should serve to improve the squad not just have the same poor attributes of those that we have recently let go.
Our manager, whilst i want him to succeed is very much unproven and needs to improve matters fast otherwise we will shortly be in real danger of enduring a further relegation. Also why bring in Parrett and then play McCormack, surely he's better than the OXO kid? I'm not sure Powell and his team have got a clue.
One positive note is I do think Jenkinson is a real positive and could play at a higher level ,however he's now injured .
This team is an embarrassment to our club and the new owners need to take action to change this without delay.
Very good post in my opinion. Funny, but it shouldn't be because of how much this hurts.
It felt as though we were a bit unlucky not to get a point or even three today. But when you keep feeling as though you've been unlucky you have to realise that it isn't actually luck at all. It's that you're just not good enough.
How on earth did Parky made a play-off challenging side out of this lot? 1 point out of 21. Shameful.
No point repeating what everybody has said but why on earth did Macormack start instead of Parret or why at least, did he not come on in the second half? It's beyond a joke i'm afraid and if we are to build a team for next year how do we do that with serious question marks about our manager? Granted, he was an unknown quantity when he arrived (we needed experience but thats done now) but he's becoming more and more of a known quantity as each game passes and on the basis that he has now taken us to a point where we are more worried about relegation than promotion, how do we build for next season? That now must be the big decision the board have to look at because there is only so much of this that fansare going to take. I'll be there come what may but i fear for our season ticket uptake and i can't understand how we can plan the team for next season given what is currently being served up.
BD I would suspect that Parrett did not start because he was only brought in on friday and had not played with the team in any format and that the plan would have been to bring him on but we had two defensive injury substitutions. Whilst Nouble was a similar situation, his inclusion was out of necessity as CP has less faith in NE39 playing as a forward than McOxo playing as a midfielder. And there lies the issue, why was NE39 on the bench when an untried 19 yo, with no experience of his team mates played.
Doesn't matter when he was brought in - he has to be better than McCormack. It's frustrating because he played as good as he can yesterday and gave us nothing. 3 things said it all for me - firstly 2 excellent cahnces to sore with an ounce of composure for Wagstaff and Racon - both balooned over - ok this can hapen but how many of these sort of chances do we need for a goal - I'd say about 20 when opponents may only need 3. Secondly - near the end of the game - Forune played a good forward ball, their defender mis headed- where was the anticipation it was a set up for a team that knows how to get forward - I'd say most teams at that stage with the game 0-0 would have been pressing more and they would have had somebody there or thereabouts to at least have a chance of capitalising - we didn't have a player within 50 yards!!! And finally, ball near the corner- Fry decides to go through when there was no real threat - gave them a corner ad right at the end- much more threat - corner led to another corner which led to the gaol - total lack of brains and football intelligence. If I was manager he would be back at West Ham now.
Didn't go today not because i had any prior arrangements, i made an executive decision on the way home from mk dons not to have my weekend/evening/week ruined by them anymore. It's the first home game i've missed for unenforced reasons for about 17 years and, although i listened to it on the radio, keeping that distance definitely reduces the emotional attachment and, as things stand, and i can't believe i'm saying this, i'm not sure i'm going to renew for next year or when i'm going to go again. Maybe being too 'glass half empty' but i can't see a way out of this run and i don't need this negativity in my life and my family don't need a moody dad/husband ruining their w/e anymore. Very sad....
Yes, it makes me snappy and irritable too - detaching yourself can help - The club is in a real state and needs a lot more fixing than than I think it did when Parky left. Of course it may have more resources to sort it our now - we don;t really know for sure.
The speed (i.e. lack of it) at which we play concerns me the most. It was the same under Parky. Our slow, ploddy approach makes it easy for other teams to get men behind the ball and cut down our space.
I'm not expert enough to know whether this is being driven by lack of ability, fitness or confidence but, until we play with a bit more 'zip' I fear we will be easy to play against.
Hard to comment on that, we lost a game we should have won although we only created from set pieces. We missed what Francis is good at, running forward and crossing the ball. Reid, what has happened to him the only real break that looked like coming to something and the only time he really had the ball, and he does that.
Nouble looked good twice the rest of the game he was chasing his first touch, also BWP is better in the air than him?!?
Thought Powell should have changed it earlier but what do I know?

Francis good at crossing the ball? Majority of his crosses either don't beat the first defender's shins or they usually go out for a goal kick or throw in.
It's pretty dire, haven't renewed my season ticket yet and I'd like to hear a few answers before I do
The game was quite entertaining at times, Lee made a couple of brilliant saves which another keeper wouldnt have got to on another day and overall a draw in the game would've been a fair result.
Nice to see Solly back, when Jenks got injured Francis started warming up and then got told don't bother as Solly was coming on. Seems to me he's dropped to 3rd choice now which is fair as he has cost us a goal a game over recent weeks.
Llera was impressive for me, unlucky with a few headers and he was being man handled everytime we had a set piece. Dailly looks older and older each week.
In midfield, Waggy still isn't really doing enough for me, McCormack I forgot was playing until the 80th minute. Nouble is a big lump, has a bit of skill and looked okay
Overall bring on the summer, but 6 defeats from 7 I can see things getting alot worse before they get better and we may have to make a big decision over CP is this continues.
We didnt play that badly in my opinion, we have played worse and won earlier in the season. We had a few good oppertunities to score and we were unlucky that we hit the cross bar from a llera header and their keeper made two excellent saves.
Worner looked all over the place, his posistional sense from crosses was woeful and it made me nervous everytime they put in a cross. He made one good save though.
I thought llera and fortune/daily did ok at the back and jenkinson looked good again, although got caught out defensively a few times.
Semedo's confidence seems to have plumeted and mccormack should have been replaced instead of racon.
BWP didnt really have much service, but he won quite a few headers in the air and showed some nice touches. He also seemed to tryng much harder yesterday.
Nouble looked ok, considering he hasnt played alot of football this year. It will take him time to get match fit and get back into the swing off things. Showed some positivity with his runs.
Nowhere near as bad as some are claiming - but there are some refreshingly positive views expressed above, too.
Racon and Wagstaff had great chances, Llera hit the bar. Nine times out of ten we would have won that match and we certainly did not deserve to lose. We were better than we were v Notts County, a game which we won. I'd say we were far more deserving of three points yesterday than we were in that game.
Powell must wish he had 11 with hearts as big as Llera's and the advance of Jenkinson and return of Solly are plusses. Between them, hopefully it means we won't have to suffer any more of Francis's goal-gifting errors.
Just my opinion, of course , but there was enough there to convince me this bad run will come to an end very soon.
Negatives from yesterday:
- Worner's distribution was terrible. When he did manage to keep it on the pitch, he aimed long balls at BWP (1.73m) not Nouble (1.9m).
- Too slow to the loose ball - especially midfield.
- Not enough grit in our tackles, too half hearted - especially midfield.
- No movement off the ball at set pieces (except Llera)
- Poor quality of passing.
- Dithering before shooting.
- Shooting too high up in the air.
- More injuries.
- On a personal level, it's my youngest's birthday today so yesterday he took two friends to the match. That's two kids that won't be back to The Valley in a hurry.
Positives from yesterday:
- Llera was very good again.
- Nouble tried hard (though it would be nice if he showed a bit more control).
- Solly looked ok when he came on. Maybe he'll get a start next time.
- One more ticket was ripped from my book - one less time I have to watch Charlton this season.
Always leave it a day before I post my comments so I can think it through without the inevitable emotion - maybe a few others should...
I think we did pretty well in the first half. Must of been 2-3 really good chances we just didn't take. Any one of those going in would (I think) have changed the game. We looked the better side and most of the play was in their half (1st half). Llera hitting the cross bar and Racon's chance over the bar - all better chances than any they had - we just needed a bit of luck or more skill and we'd have been a goal up and I'm sure that would have given us the confidence to push on for a second. Also the injuries didn't help us and Solly did OK for a first game in a long tome - but thats not the point the 2 enforced changes meant that Reid could be our only offensive sub. Also Richard Lee is one of the best goalkeepers in this league and made a fantastic save yesterday. Shame we last concentration towards the end and got mugged with a minute to go - but I think it could have been very different.
All in all I think we are suffering from the injuries - esp. Jackson and Anyinsah. Think, in the end, we were unlucky not to get at least a point yesterday.
