  • Some things in life are bad, they can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you're chewing on life's gristle, don't grumble give a whistle
This will help things turn out for the best

Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life

If life seems jolly rotten, there's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
When you're feeling in the dumps, don't be silly, chumps

Just purse your lips and whistle, that's the thing

So, always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a counterfeit and when you look at it
    Life's a laugh and death's the joke, it's true
You see, it's all a show, keep them laughing as you go
Just remember the last laugh is on you

Always look on the bright side of life
And always look on the right side of life
Always look on the bright side of life
And always look on the right side of life
  • [cite]Posted By: Jpb Junior[/cite]Just got in. What an absolute load of rubbish. Had anyone actually watched Nouble play before we signed him. Mccormack is just so poor it is unbelievable. Why play 2 so called ball winners in the middle when one of them is scared to tackle. Waggy has no confidence at all. Only Miguel and Carl Jenkinson can come out of this game with any credit at all. We have Nathan Eccleston on the bench yet play THE worst striker since Mike Small up front.

Parky lost 1 game under the new regime and was dismissed, if we had won against Swindon we would have gone 2nd, we are now 13 points off the play offs.

The publicity stunt to appease the North upper has failed dramatically. Chris Powell is a legend at the club and was given a job that he didn't even apply for.

Bring in Curbs now before it is too late

Curbs was punditing during the Man City game on Al Jazeer TV. Didn't look like he wanted to come back anytime soon. BTW some nice pictures of The Valley in this months WSC.

    Urgh.
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: ISawLeaburnScore[/cite][quote][cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]What really pisses me off are the thick twats who throw the ball back on to the pitch when another ball is already in play.I find it embarrassing that our fans are so fucking thick that they don't understand the multi ball system is supposed to speed the game up yet, our fans manage to make it slower than just having one ball.[/quote]

    Drives me insane.

Possibly made me more angry than the result or the performance.

    Absolutely incredible.[/quote]

Before I start, please excuse the bad language. I feel this is the only way I can express myself properly..........anyway here goes.................

NSS - spot on, does it speed the game up any more than just having the one ball? Doubt it very much. And if we can't even get this right how the fuck are we going to win a football game? Talking of football, this midfield would struggle to grace a conference league side at the moment. McCormack is worse than a joke and as for Semedo, well, he makes Ronald McDonald look like Ron-al-fucking-dinho. And I can't even think of anything witty to describe that useless c*** Racon. Without doubt the worst Charlton team in my history of supporting them.
As for Brentford, they were much more organised and still looked tuppence but once again you don't have to do much to beat us. Makes me sick.
  • Litte unlucky today I thought although still not good. We had looked more like scoring. Llera unlucky twice off the bar and off the line while Rac and waggy both had good chances. They didnt really look like troubling us even when Dailly went off except when Worner flapped.
Poor goal to give away and earned by forster instructing alexander to block off Worner and Worner obliging without a fight. Also not sure who lost Legge.
Positives were again Carlo (altho how long is he goinr to be out for!), Solly when he came on and Llera who looked good.

I think we should give up on this season and build a new side involving more of our youngsters. Solly and Jenkinson look the part to me.

Don't tell the players that - we have to avoid relegation first.
  • i honestly cannot believe what i am watching at the moment the team is a total disgrace to the badge on the shirt, we dont have a leader at all on the pitch ,and powelly must seriously be worrying about his job , all in all it is not good enough ,shite shite shite .
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: nolly[/cite]Stop getting nice players in get some brutes in who can kick back and dominate other teams[/quote]

    Totally agree.

We need a Webster or Brown type of player. We need someone to skillfully wack a player and scare them into mistakes. We are to nice and dont put the boot in to them.
  • Really glad for Solly who when he came on looked very good. Just hope he can stay fit for the rest of the season.

I am just desperate for a couple more wins to not get sucked into relegation - Daggers is MASSIVE for this club now, make no mistake, a defeat there and we are in serious trouble.

I just pray we can survive this season and then get rid of Francis, McCormack, Racon, Reid and all the other useless buggers we have filled the squad up with.

To those above having a pop at Semedo - mental, he may have gone off the boil in recent weeks but this boy gives everything each week and is without doubt one of the few who is more than capable in a promotion side from this division - but as a DEFENDER which is his hatural position.

Couldn't make it today, had other things to do.

Good to see Solly got on, how did he do? Hope he gets a run in the team

Doesn't sound like Nouble impressed. Parrett will surely start the next game.

We surely need to grind out a couple of wins to make sure we are nowhere near the relegation zone in the last few weeks of the season. Once we're definitely safe we can then experiement with the formations and systems. What did we play today? The OS mentions Powell changing to 4-4-2, did we start with 4-3-3 then?
  • Solly was impressive - hope to see a lot more of him from now on.
  • I have watched every game under the Powell regime. I now feel that I am able to give MY opinion. Powell is not has not been a first team manager anywhere. That taken into consideration it surprises me that he has not surrounded himself with staff of first team calibre, that is not discrediting Damo or Dyer but it seems that the best analogy is "blind leading blind".
furthermore on a more personal note i feel let down by CP's initial statement on th OS that all players were on a level playing field and all would be given a chance, unfortunately to date and with so many poor performances he still carries on using players totally out of form( im not going to label anyone we know who they are) so please Mr Powell give our home reared players who are desperate to wear the shirt and impress and do well for the club and supporters a chance instead of bringing in unknown youngsters from higher leagues in. I gurantee that when CAFC were in the prem or championship these boys were here, and doesnt change their pedigree!

Really? Can't trap a bag of cement, can't shoot straight, can't pass forwards and his second touch is a header.........Semedo has lost it. Was one player you could put your house on always having a good game. This season he has looked like a cart horse. Definitely not the worst but you can see that he doesn't have the confidence in himself to make an easy pass.
  • Llera and Jenkinson are the only players who did well in my opinion. They both deserve to wear the shirt.

Why on earth did we get a useful midfielder in Parrett and stick him on the bench, choosing McCormack to start. I will state again and again, McCormack is useless and brings nothing to the team. If the kid from Spurs wasn't ready then put Racon in the centre and Reid wide left.

Nice to see Francis was dropped - well deserved. Nouble looks too raw for me, has an awful first touch and isn't that good in the air. His best play seemed to come from dribbling down the wing.

Wasn't surprised or bothered when they scored. It doesn't really matter as a point would have been rubbish anyway.
  • Spoke to a senior pro after the game. He told me he couldn't believe how poor we were at the moment but felt we'd turn it around. He said the inability of the team to pass to each other was hurting us most and said the injuries were taking their toll, but he added that this didn't excuse just how bad some of the football was. I told him I thought our midfield was abysmal and he didn't argue and indeed said he could assure me that despite the poor performances of some, there were no better players on the bench and we had the best players available out on the pitch. He kept highlighting just how thin he felt our squad is and said if we get a couple back soon we might turn it around. Powell still has the dressing room no question. Interestingly he said he thought the fans had let the players off very lightly considering how poor we've been. I told him I believed he was part of the worst Charlton team for 20 years and asked him to pass that on to the rest of the squad. The key thing I asked him to pass on was that the majority of fans don't have an issue if a player has a lower level of ability but a lack of effort is never acceptable and that's what's been seen from too many players over recent weeks.

On a personal note, I've only been coming 16 years but I've never been as down watching a Charlton team ever, and feel there a real embarrassment to the shirt. I'll keep coming but I worry that many have already started to vote with their feet.
  • [cite]Posted By: Saga Lout[/cite]Solly was impressive - hope to see a lot more of him from now on.

maybe its time to see a few more home grown players on the pitch because the current 1st team are shocking ,been saying it for ages give mambo ,harriott, cousins a game blend em in with solly ,jenkinson and a few more players get em playing together and maybe next season the team could be a success .
  • Very worried but even Sir Alex could not win a game in L1 with our midfield of twinkle-toed light-weight fairies. Racon and Mc Oxo conributed nothing today and Waggy very little. Semedo was over run (again) and is looking tired (not surprising as our 1 man midfield for two seasons) .

We get bullied and bossed in midfield week in and week out by poor opponents and offer nothing to our front men.

Parky at least had the sense to bi-pass midfield altogther and use the wings or play hoofball and CP must sort this out now if we are to avoid a relegation scrap with no fighters and then BWP leaving close season.
  • Had four quid on nil nil today 9/1 so felt the pain even more when we let that goal in the 88th min.
  • Semedo And Racon are not good enough. They lack any substance whatsoever. neither score , Neither pass to the strikers , neither are box to box players , neither control a game and neither should have their contacts renewed.
Both have been regulars in the squad in the last few years and it's no coincidence what has happened.

bang on totally agree wholesale changes needed in the middle of the park we really need someone who is gonna drive us forward and make things happen in the oppositions box, racon tries to do this but to no avail.

Don't agree with all you say Beds but think this is pretty spot on. I sometimes think Semedo is struggling because of the crap around him but think he gets away with an awful lot more than some players do when they underperform.
  • I thought we were better today than of late, but that is not saying much !!

    Observations are thus:

    1) Our players need more shooting practice - today we actually had some efforts at goal and if Waggy and Racon could keep a football below 8ft then we might have won.

    2) As mentioned on here by many - Nouble is Leaburn mk2, although probably better on the floor but not as good in the air. No idea why we have taken him on loan - must be Alex Dyer's connection - but must be better players out there somewhere. Not what we need at the moment.

    3) Llera much better in defence than Doc or Fortune - why wasn't he in the team sooner. Same could be said for McOxo - why is he still in the side when we went to the trouble of getting in a loanee ?

    4) Think we have seen the last of Ecclestone - wouldn't be surprised if he tells Powell where to go..............shabbily treated in my opinion.

    5) still don't think we will get relegated, or anywhere near it. We always pull something out the fire and still believe we will get around 60 points by the end of the season.............ending around 10th.
  • I really don't know whether we were a crossbar and brilliant save away from a win or whether things really are as awful as some suggest elsewhere.

We do seem to invariably get overun in midfield despite, on paper at least, playing three central midfielders. Our defenders clear it and opposiyion midfielders are invariably first to the ball to put the defence under more pressure. A third division defence, particularly shorne of Dailly, will crack sooner or later under that pressure.

However there were positives. Jenkinson (until Weston dumped him in the front row of the East Stand) did well and got some crosses in as did Waggy. Fry and Racon also showed well in the first half. Leaburn had an encouraging debut I thought and BWP worked harder than I've noticed to date.

My verdict is that you could almost visibly see the confidence drain out of the players after Lee made that briiliant save from Big Mig. Brentford, rather like Walsall before Christmas, on the other hand gradually grew in confidence as they realised that we were tensing up and giving up.

I'm of the it was harsh to sack Parky school but as we have done we need to unite behind Powell who I think will come good if he receives support.

Final question which will appear stupid as I was at the game: was it 1-0 or 2-0? I saw Weston's shot go in but wasn't sure whether the ref had already blown or not.
  • Westons shot didn't go in.
  • standing in the Con karzie after watching a pile of poo a thought occured to me. we are now clapping a guy closing down play---or a 1/2 pass, or a tackle etc etc yet these are the normal building blokes of any side---yet we clap them like its a good thing ? ho w far have we fallen when the normal is something extra good to u ?
  • We stunk the place out today, frighteningly we have been worse and won

Semedo is a warrior and a very valuable footballer but he is not box to box (and a defender by trade even if he has spent most his pro career in the middle) and we have been crying out for a couple of energetic terriers since Parker left.

Paddy P reckons any of us going to Bournemouth for the football need our swedes looking at.

I'm fucked off I decided to stop doing the decking to go and have my Saturday ruined!

Oh well, an evening of cry masturbation will commence to make up for that
  • I have just about got over my disappointment at todays showing enough to be bothered to comment, this is without doubt the worst Charlton team i have had the misfortune to witness. We have a short inexperienced keeper wearing a pink shirt,an ancient center half who was replaced with another past it centre half, a left back who should play at center half due to his lack of footballing ability. In the midfield we have a Portugueser whose only attributes are tackling and putting in a lot of effort, a short bald bloke who cannot tackle, pass, shoot or keep up with the play and a French man who bearly tackles, cannot shoot, does too many fancy flicks and could not split the oppostions defence with a pass if his life depended on it. Up front we have brought in another striker who has very little skill and lacks the ability to hold the ball up sufficiently well to mount a sustained attack, surely if we are going to bring in new players they should serve to improve the squad not just have the same poor attributes of those that we have recently let go.
Our manager, whilst i want him to succeed is very much unproven and needs to improve matters fast otherwise we will shortly be in real danger of enduring a further relegation. Also why bring in Parrett and then play McCormack, surely he's better than the OXO kid? I'm not sure Powell and his team have got a clue.
One positive note is I do think Jenkinson is a real positive and could play at a higher level ,however he's now injured .
This team is an embarrassment to our club and the new owners need to take action to change this without delay.

    [cite]Posted By: onestevieg[/cite]Westons shot didn't go in.

what happened at the end cos all i saw was solly made to look like a schoolboy as he was shrugged off the ball and the ref blew his full time whistle and then i thought the brentford player at the same moment put it in the net .....
i thought the ref saved solly there or was he fouled or something
  • Poor today again but were better than brentford and were mugged.
