When asked today outside the ground when are you going to spend so money Tony Jiminez replied "in the summer". Obviously written this seson off then, don't think many people will renew if this continued rubbish is served up again and again.
maybe already written the season off or maybe he just remembered he can't actually buy anyone until the summer because it is outside the transfer window?
What are they gonna do Steve? Filling a squad with expensive loanees might (or as proved before more likely might not) guarantee success.
Theyd be off the end of the season and wed be possibly in the Championship but all the loanees will have gone back to their clubs so we wouldnt have a promotion winning teams.
Cant buy anyone til summer so that leaves out of contracts and let's face it anyone who is good enough to make a difference will be contracted.
What I mean is that, (if we don't make the play offs) will Powelly still be there and even if he is or isn't, will it be Jiminez who picks the players we buy?
Anyone remember the Wise/Jiminez situation at Newcastle??
[cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]ok crowds of 8 thousand it is next season
What so we are shite so we dont go anymore? We take the piss (and rightly so) out of millwall for their supporters coming out of the woodwork anytime they are on the up and for big games but when the going gets tough at ours everyone is jumping ship?
25000 home supporters in the premiership and 8000 a few years later? Says more about the "supporters" than it does about the club to me.
[cite]Posted By: YourTheLoveOfMyLife[/cite]But will it be Powelly who buys the players?

Jeez let's not moan at the board before they do anything wrong.

sorry mate but that is a fact if the shite keeps being served up people will vote with their feet, I seen the crap times , 3 thousand over at upton park, just remember quite a few season tickets in the prem were purely to watch prem football from non-supporting charlton fans
I know mate, and trust me im as thoroughly depressed by days like today as anyone but Ive just accepted we are shite and resigned myself to paying my hard earned cash and giving up my time to do it. Its absolute madness cos I wouldnt put myself through this misery for a job, a bird or anything else come to think of it let alone pay for the privilege! ;-)
But it's what supporting Charlton is about for me. I was spoiled by the years in the premiership and now we've come back down to reality as much as i hate this utter shite league i wont stop going.
Makes me a mug I suppose but I will continue to do so unless we merged with palace or something like that or did an MK Dons sell out.
Would rather support my club through thick and thin than turn my back on it when it needs supporting most.

Oh for goodness sake give a rest!
Read what Slater has already said. They have already decided that promotion this season is not likely.
They are building for the long term.
If we want to completely derail this project, lets carry on suggesting that CP isn't going to last the summer.
Jimenez was at the Toon working for Ashley. He/Wise were carrying out Ashley's orders!

Are you for real ? Considering, you know a hell of a lot about Charlton, you must know that we have been trying to get in loan players for weeks. It ain't always so easy to get in the right players, there's no magic wand.

Did Slater really say promotion was unlikely Bing? Seems a bit strange considering how close to the top of the table we were when they took over. Even more so when you consider they knew that many of the teams we were about to be playing were in the bottom half of the table. Suppose it could have been to take pressure off Powell but doubt they wrote promotion off too early.

Agree with you there CE!
Seems we've lost a fair few targets to Championship clubs too. Powell won't want just anybody, not with only 2 loans left, \& the possibility that one might have to be a keeper.
[cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]also we had all January to do business
The board brought in Eccleston prior to Powells arrival, & we bought BWP.
CP said he wanted to assess the squad before buying anyone, & he didn't start at the beginning of January either.

No. Powell assessed the squad in the time he had left in the transfer window, & got his main target.
If Jiminez was going to usurp CP's power & choice on players, he would have done so & bought a few more players in, irrespective of what CP thought.
To me, that doesn't show a man who will interfere. No doubt he will utilise some of his oft-mentioned contacts to potentially swing a few gems our way, but the way it looks to me, is that Powell has the autonomy on all potential signing choices.

why did he need time to assess the squad, I could of told him we are shit and I would have thought Wise told Jiminez we were shit

Well, if that's the best you can come up with, there's little point replying further.
for christ we all new we needed a overhaul through the spine of the team, we got bwp but have failed on the other 2 positions, it is now coming home to roost.Who says that spending money in the summer will mean we will stroll to promotion next year.We were in a decent position at the turn of the year, unfortunately that position worsens with every game we play.

If we lucky
Like who? (in the January window in League 1 by a manager who is just getting to grips with what is at his disposal?)

Sounds like the we will spend money in the summer comment has been taken out of context.
I think Jiminez will have a big say on who we bring into the club, and not just on the financial side.
Only time will tell!
I want Powell and the the new board to be a success as much as anyone else.

Good news if it was Jiminez.
Thought he was mute!
