[cite]Posted By: Screamer[/cite]Awful first half. I thought we were good in the second half though.
That's about it, should've won really. Ropey game overall; just when you think you've seen the worst team ever to visit the Valley this season, along comes something even more dreadful. How can Tranmere not get relegated?
Let's get this point into perspective. Tranmere are awful. A team of spoilers at best. Once again not a single sign of any creativity. Didn't make Warner make a save. Double substitution at the end was wasted completely because it was at least ten minutes too late. Not sure where we are heading to be honest. Bright spots were Jenkinson and Llera and Waggy in the second half. Utter shite.
Old cliche, but game of two halves.
Having said that, I don't think Tranmere deserved anything from that - what a godawful team they are. One of those teams that starts timewasting after 2 minutes with the score at 0-0.
Llera was MOM by some distance. This despite a ricket shortly before he scored. (Which was Bradley's goal, by the way, but who cares? Mig deserved it.) He put some great tackles in all game and looked twice the player Doc has been recently.
We should have won, but we just aren't threatening enough. Tranmere had no problem dealing with us in the first half. Francis was dire in the first half. We (including Francis) did improve and looked a better side in the second half, but we still never really looked convincing.
Overall, an improvement, but that's not saying much really is it?
Biggest positive? Big Mig. Obviously.
Dreadful first half, good second. Appauling ref. Llera outstanding. Francis useless. Should have had a pen or two. How we didnt score the late chance I do not know.

Well done Shooters hill Guru, at last someone who is not intimidated by the pro Powellites.Tranmere were awful and we scraped a draw with them, how much lower can we go? We were better in the second half but that wasnt hard as we were absolutely shocking in the first half. I have run out of adjectives to describe our play so will end no before i say something i might regret.
Seemed to me (listening to CPlayer) and reading Red's commentary that two things improved - better set pieces / corners, better defensively. Still seem weak in the final third but that may just be this game. I'm really glad to see that the heads did not go down and we seemed really up for it in the second half. So that may be a turning point after a difficult spell that made me utterly depressed and ready to give up. I don't think any team in this division are 'utter shite' it seems to me that bar Brighton, anybody can beat anybody on the day. But like I say I can't comment on Tranmere - they seemed reasonable when we watched them play Argyle at Home Park a couple of weeks back.
I'm praying that Llera starts from now on because I rate him and he made a difference. I'm praying we do it better on Tuesday. It may seem better on Tuesday if we get a result.
I thought we did ok today, especially in the second half. Here are my views:
- The ref was terrible, the worst I have seen for a while
- Llera played well for the majority of the game, but made a few mistakes that would have probably lead to a goal if we were playing a better team
- Waggy played well in the second half, and him and francis played some good football at times
- Did the goal get a flick off of BWP, from where I was it looked like it (I could be wrong though)
- The fans really pissed me off today- Booing when we were keeping possesion.
- Jenkenson kept playing people on side (I think he kept their player onside for the goal)
- Thought racon played well (in patches) today
Seen us play a lot worse. Looks like players are being told to get the ball down and try and play football as were some good moments out there. That style of play with better able players and we would be destroying teams.
Werent too bad the first half until we had the silly mistake. Great seeing the crowd start to turn again as always does wonders for players confidence.
Second half performance was much improved and we deserved more than a point.
Tranmere didnt want to play and were more interested in trying to get players booked by feigning injury and time wasting. Cowardly performance and cowardly players in that team.
These sort of home games are must win and we need to start winning.
Performance wise we deserved more than we got and I think we played well on the whole.
Agree with most of what SHG said other than to say Racon showed 2nd half a glimpse of the player he can be.
Also Tranmere were limited and unambitouis but not awful. They did just what they set out to do which was to time waste, pull 10 or even 11 players back and nick a draw.
We just didn't have enough guile to break them down first half. Second half we upped the tempo and finally got behind them. In reality we should have gone on to win but just weren't good enough on the day.
Very late subs were baffling.
Llera was better than Doc, waggy was good second half, jenks form makes you wonder why we brought Bessone in.
Worse game I can recall from jose for a long while. Ref was a joke but we should be able to cope without him.
If Jackson and Anyinsah had played we would have won IMHO but they didn't so there you go
A win at MK Dons and we still have a chance of the play-offs. I'll be there.
First half we were as bad if not worse than Tuesday night.
Yet again we gave the ball away constantly, created nothing and looked vulnerable everytime Tranmere came near our goal.
Took a deliberate look at our movement off the ball today and basically it is non existant. At times in the first half it was like watching a netball team. The ball was offloaded and the passer then just stands and watches what happens.
Also alarming was virtually our entire teams inability to make a decisive pass whilst on the move. Again we played at a pedestrian tempo.
Francis had a shocker for the goal. Anyone who is saying jenkinson played the bloke onside is probably right. Powell needs to get in his ear about it as he does it a lot.
To be honest I wandered off for a beer around 35mins and didn't even bother to watch it on the TV on the concourse.
2nd half was an improvement but not by much. How many saves did Warner make? Can't remember us extending him at all. Genuinely believe Tranmere missed a trick. At 1-0 we started to resemble the shambolic mess we have been in recent weeks, had they gone for it and not simply wasted time I think they probably had a chance of putting the game to bed.
Then again our manager again left it too late to change things and really go for it.
In recent weeks we have played lesser teams. In our current form I fear for us against an in form side. Tuesday night could get messy imo.
Given the dross served up, I actually think the crowd were quite patient today. Plain and simple for me. This season is done with. We'll fade to midtable.
Only positive, had Llera first in the second half and last goalscorer. 60-1. Even sweeter that it was clearly Wright-Phillips goal.
Hard to disagree with what has already been said. Tranmere are by some margin the worst team to play at the Valley this season, but despite this they secured a deserved draw.
Charlton did improve in the second half, but even then had rarely really threatened until Lera’s free kick. Thereafter we did improve a little but can have no real complaints about the result. I don’t recall their goalkeeper making one serious save.
The lack of quality evident this afternoon was a feature under Parkinson, but his teams always persevered and their resilience often brought reward. The determination shown by Parky’s sides was missing this afternoon though and as a result we gave Tranmere very little to worry about. It is not looking good.
Central midfield remains a problem. We are so one paced and ponderous that teams must really look forward to playing us. I’m not sure that problem is easily solved. We’d probably need a complete clear out. Perhaps that’s why Powell wants a big lump up front. It may make sense to forget trying to play football and simply battle, knock it long, try to retain possession and aim to get our pacey forwards into the game in advanced positions.
The one positive to come out of Powell’s rein so far is Carl Jenkinson. He’s a player and already looks more confident and aware when in possession than many of his colleagues. There was a notable moment around the 55th minute when he and Semedo had the ball between them and in space. Jenkinson took charge. Good for him, but it was a sad reflection on our midfield fulcrum. The team simply lacks leaders.

At least it wasnt only me who thought BWP got a toe to it....I would collect your money asap, just incase the goalscorer changes once its viewed on tv...

Might as wll capitalise on our BBC match page:
"The visitors grabbed the lead when Enoch Showunmi capitalised on a Simon Fuller error to race clear and finish".
Definitely BWP's goal, he was claiming it like mad after it went in as well.
Tranmere were rugged like an old Uruguay side all niggle and no real invention.
Francis was poor first half but in the second he was very good, some of the runs and crosses should have created something but most of the time there was no one in the area. Benson and BWP kept making the same run and we did not get anyone else in the box. Racon made up for Tuesday today as he was illusive and creative today, yet as everyone has said the forgotten man was immense today, Big Mig stole the show
Not jumping on the bandwagon but I thought Francis and McComack looked pretty awful to be honest, was a slight improvement in the 2nd from them. Ref was awful but equally so for both teams so no blame there. Subs were 10 minutes too late. Agree that Llera looked much more committed to the cause than any player I've seen for a while. And if you're going to play long balls at least he gets some decent ones in with a bit of pace and direction rather than the big lump up into the air. Can't see us doing anything this year not even playoffs. Can't see any reason not to play Solly and give another of the youngsters a run ot see if they've got anything about them.
We played the way I have been wanting for ages. Llera and Dailly passing between them and bringing through ball to halfway line. Missed JJ's late runs and Joe's harrying. Didn't test their keeper much but it will come. Much better.
It felt like watching a bunch of strangers who had just met on the pitch in the first half. After Tuesday night I didn't think we could get any worse but the lack of confidence and ideas was shocking for the first 45. Nobody to blame but Francis for the goal as his first touch was abysmal and then stood there whilst he was robbed of the ball. Solly has got to be licking his lips at the chance of getting his place back and I will admit that Francis was better in the second half but you need to concentrate for 90 mins, not when you feel like it. Week after week we are suffering from those sorts of mistakes that cost us. Is it a wonder that Southend went down with him in the back four!
Second half was an improvement but why take BWP off? As for Tranmere? They are a joke and their timewasting throughout the game was even less funny along with some of the poor decisions by the ref. I was lost for words in the first half at some of the things going on. Just didn't seem real that that was happening and the ref just letting them carry on. BWP, Jenkinson and Llera all having good games and Llera especially solid. All in all very depressing to think that we will be in the same league as cloggers like this lot ( not that we are much better either! ).
Thought we were poor again today with glimpses of being decent in the 2nd half. Thought Llera and Jenks were good but nobody else merits any positive mention. Most annoying thing was that after the game Alan Mc was asked did they get a rocket at half time to get stuck in. If replied by saying that if anything they were trying too hard and that CP was calm throughout telling them to carry on what they're doing as they're doing it right. This I found very worrying as I think we've looked awful for long periods of CP's reign. Hoping that when some new faces join the football will improve and the Valley will become a place that people look forward to going to again.
On the OS, the Tranny manager was asked about the penalties not given:
"They had a couple of shouts for a penalty at the end. I'm not doing an Arsene Wenger, but I honestly didn't see it."
Comments
Probably a fair result. If we had someone instead of the hapless Mccormack we would have probably won.

Anyway, Millwall and Palace BOTH lost.

First half was appauling, much better second.
I thought their goal was offside.
Still need that creative midfielder and possibly another striker.

Will be given to BWP. No doubt.
