absolute shite all round, really thought when we went 1 up we'd comfortably go on and score 3 or 4.
complete shambles all round and can't even be bothered to type everything I think about the team.....suffice to say this squad needs a massive overhaul (if that's possible) and the play-offs are now looking distant on this form.
i thought everyone who went last night should have been taken away in white coats and offered help
i went and watched that shower of shite when it was my sons parents evening , shame on me , shame on charlton , those players don't deserve fook all support ...PATHETIC
carlisle came and were the perfect lay down and die team that were there for the taking in the first half hour, we just didn't have the ooomph or ability to go on and do that and as the game wore on they realised that and took full advantage of our ineptness
in fairness i thought robbie did ok , for him , tonight ..... but still not good enough for our aspirations he just goes down in instalments
jenkinson did ok
as for the rest pub player performances against a not so boozed up pub team who done a job on us
despite the doom and gloom i still think we have a 30% chance of getting into the play offs(it's a pub league and if we sober up we'll have a chance) 70% chance of my nostradamus like prediction that these will in fact be the worse footballing times in our history , still it's better than the boring prem ... keyuuuuuuunts
my love for Charlton and Sir Chris Powell is unconditional ...................................but boy it's being tested !!
Last night made me reflect on what I'm doing with my life. I decided that I'm not renewing my ST (that I've had for 19yrs) until we start playing football as a team. I'll give SCP until the end of the season to show signs of getting it right with the squad he has but the standard last night was woeful.
I don't mind so much when we get thumped by a better team, like Brighton, because at least I can appreciate when we get outclassed. But getting beaten by a poor Carlisle has made me reflect on what on earth I'm doing with my time, surely I have something better to do with it.
Both teams were poor last night and maybe its a reflection of League One rather than Charlton but it was like watching amatuer football at best in the 2nd half. This league isn't about dominating matches or keeping the ball but just making sure that the oppo doesn't have it. 85mins of boring rubbish and 5 mins of actual football. I realised last night why so many Charlton fans are staying away and I can't say I blame them. I feel sick about this.
Didn't like the look of that lineup when I saw it last night. Sounds like Wagstaff was up front instead of Eccleston, but still any combination of Waggy, BWP and Eccleston is surely not a good partnership?
We've rarely played well in this division with two out and out wingers. Has always left too much work for our central midfield, who again are not a good partnership. Same at centre back.
Seems if we really want promotion this season we need to go back to the way we played under Parky, with something like Keith Peacock's line ups. Jackson at LM to make us a bit more solid, Waggy or McCormack on the right for the same reason. Anyinsah or a new targetman alongside one of the other strikers. Direct football as Zinedine Bagheri said to stop the opposition having the ball.
Alternatively let Powell experiement as he has done, write off this season and rebuild in the summer.
To a certain degree this is Powell's pre-season. He does not know these players or this league. He is trying different formations and players in different positions to see what his best team is. Hopefully he now realises that the material he is working with is mostly shit regardless of formation and wil try and get in three players on loan asap. If Fry isn't going to be used in the first team regularly then send him back for the third loanee. This lot will not deliver they just are not good enough.
Alternatively let Powell experiement as he has done, write off this season and rebuild in the summer.
Give over!
Funny how you didn't go to the game, yet you reckon we should write off the season?
Bollocks to that!
What about us fans that do go to games, home and away all season long, what about our effort this season?
Shall we give up after all the hours, miles and hundreds spent on this season?
[cite]Posted By: Jarman[/cite]Elliott f%4ks up again. No surprise there!!
We have no passion in the side.
We need someone to stand up and fight for us, like Nick Bailey did.
been saying it for ages we are to nice we need a robbie savage sort of player someone who pisses everyone off but at the same time gets his own players going just like kinsella used to.
Alternatively let Powell experiement as he has done, write off this season and rebuild in the summer.

I don't mean completely give up. Just that don't consider it a failure if we don't get promoted.
I'll still go to games this season. We're just not going to play the exciting attacking football we want AND win promotion with this squad.
Pretty abysmal all round last night. I can imagine the scene in the dressing room afterwards, CP with the defence: Christian Dailly, let me introduce you to Jon Fortune, Jon Fortune, meet Christian Dailly. Simon Francis, meet Gary Dcherty, Gary let me intoduce you to Simon Francis. Rob Elliott, meet Carl Jenkinson....... you get the idea. To me it really did seem as though none of the defenders had met each other before last night.
Midfielders as well. Why does Racon, when finding some space to crack a shot with his right foot, cut back onto his weaker left foot? And then his shot always seems to get charged down!
Their number 14 impressed me a lot, always willing to run at the defence and letting off shots when offered the opportunity. Just the sort of player we need.
After 20 minutes I said to my son that Carlisle were there for the taking ... weak side, no threat ... and that a team like Southampton or Brighton would take them apart on the night. His response: 'you know what's going to happen now then - it's going to fall apart' ... I had a suspicion it might but not as badly as it did.
Were we lucky to win 4 and then unlucky to lose 4? On this showing, we were lucky to win more than a couple of games. There is no cohesion in the team ... and too many players that have no passion or willingness to win ... they almost seem to be going through the motions ... and at this level that is a disaster waiting to happen.
We have no midfield and therefore no supply to strikers ... the ball spent so much time in the air last night that I thought I was watching the 6 Nations again.
We seem to be scared to play to feet ... even though we have that (limited) capability ... and other teams, even poor ones, just overwhelm us. Have Carlisle managed 3 goals away this season prior to last night? I have no idea but it was presented to them on a plate ... they didn't even have to play well. 4 bookings for them and none for us ... who wanted it more?
Any why oh why is Fortune back on the pitch? Totally woeful and one of the wost performances ever by a Charlton player ... all he did was kick the ball out for throw-ins or corners ... and he couldn't even do that properly ... whatever form Llera is in he will be better than that.
And the worst thing? At 80 minutes I was totally resigned to a defeat ... I couldn't even raise the enthusiasm to get pissed off ... although I'm getting angrier today ... it's just not good enough. I accept we are now a 3rd division team ... but I will not accept we are a weak 3rd division team ... the backing is there from the board and the fans ... desire and playing to strengths needs to be brought back agan.
I'll be at the Valley on Saturday and expect to see a team that wants to win ... even if we don't get a result (and we should!) ... I want to, at the very least, come out of the ground saying 'at least we tried'.
another game we lose at home because the oppositions play and work for as a team like exeter have done and carlisle work and chase from the kepper to our striker work as a team.
Didnt look like we had anyone who wanted to play for the shirt prob all pissed off that couldnt watch the man u game.
Be there on Saturday, just hoping we can give Tranmere Rovers Fc a decent match,
Well, I wasn't there and I'm not sure when I'll be back - the recent run of results and performances are testing me beyond limits. Luckily, I will not be about on Saturday either, so won't be tempted to give the team another chance to p!ss me off.
I've said this before, we don't have a team on the pitch we have 11 players....and the majority of them are substandard and wouldn't get in my sunday league side (that's if I still play).
But saying that, I'm actually looking forward to saturday to witness at least some changes to how we play. Otherwise we are in danger of freefalling (again) and that could be in to league 4.
[cite]Posted By: Solidgone[/cite] Otherwise we are in danger of freefalling (again) and that could be in to league 4.
Thats a scary thought, but wouldnt be impossible based on the last four years of dross.
Id love to hear Powell saying we were awful and things are going to change rather than implying it will be alright if they stick together....We just seem to stumble from bad to worse..........
Matched up to the opposition. So no opposition spare players in Central Midfield this time, (first game in 5!). The manager had the team set up to attack (4-2-4).
Simply out-worked, out-battled and out played, by a honest hard-working but limited opposition.
The ageing Central Defence was exposed to opponents running at them with the ball, (where was the holding midfielder?),dropped deeper and deeper, and we paid the penalty.
This game further exposed a central defence that lacks pace (all 3 of them) and a midfield which is easily stifled and out-battled. Please, no more comments on CL like Semedo is deffo premiership class (Tottenham thread) and Racon is class (numerous threads). I want my Cent Mids to match the opposition for work-rate at the very least, and then do their jobs. The holding player needs to protect the back four; and the attacking mid, needs to produce something like an assist, a shot at goal or a run beyond the centre forward (see Lee Bowyer - League Cup Final). Tippy Tappy football is pretty, but no good in League One, as illustrated by the third opposition goal.
Oh well, onto Tranmere & I'm looking forward to the summer transfer window opening.
All too predictable I'm afraid, no one holds it up. The midfielders cant run more than 5 yards without over running the ball and gifting it to the opposition. The forwards cant hold it up.
I said in the preview if we lump up balls to BWP and NE it will come back we sold the only player anything remotely resemballing a hold up player.
I didnt expect us to score one TBH.
Semedo is only a hero because of the song but is a very limited player.
everyteam must be told this lot are for the taking work hard and do the basics you'll get a result.
They hunted in 2 and 3's and worked for each other, us well I dont think i've witnessed a side that doesnt pull together as much as ours.
The biggest depressing part is we will fill the playing squad with loan players that probably wont be here next season therefore we will need another massive influx of players again in the summer.
I hopr CJ confidence is not getting destroyed at LB I think its highly harsh to ask the kid to play there and not sure its the right move.
The 1 thing i had hoped was CP would get them playing with a smile and a hunger it hasnt happened they just dont want it.
The vortex of misery appears to be never ending. I love my club but at times it takes you to soul-destroying depression at times. We deserve better than this, surely ?
Just about sums up how I felt last night. I try not to inflict my inevitable bad mood after a poor result as it's not fair on the missus but last night I could not resist. I was shouting about how god damn awful we are. Depressed, it's sickening to the pit of my stomach.
Also like many others on here I am seriously considering whether to renew my season ticket next year - I want to be entertained or at the very least witness a committed effort.

Thankfully I'm well past even bothering to tell my wife about the game now. She automatically assumes that we played badly and lost. The next stage for me is just not wanting to go at all. I know people say that things have been worse, but I'm not sure I can remember feeling this disinterested before.
As bad as anything over the last few years. Utterly, utterly shambolic.
The only player to come out with any credit is BWP who still managed to look dangerous on the rare occasions the rest of the team managed to get the ball within 15 yards of him.
That was one of the most abject centre midfield displays I've seen im my life, both Racon and Semedo were awful.
Short of replacing two thirds of the team I honestly dont know what the answer is. Possibly move Semedo to CB and Daily to DM but other than that what can you do with a team that has so many donkeys and bottlers in it.
Can't believe how dissinterested I have become in going suddenly, especially as Mr Slater writes off this season as not imperrative to get promoted. Really? Can I please have my season ticket money refunded then! What sort of message does that send out to our squad of players, let alone our promotion rivals!!
I go to most games now expecting to lose so I'm not too dissappointed when we do (as was the case last night). Even when we do win I don't even feel that elated anymore because I cannot remember the last time it was totally convincing, or worthy, or great to watch over 90 minutes.
And I, what a fool, brought a 5-year season ticket! So, so deflated at the moment. I want to have a nice time with my family this weekend and that is why I will not be going on Saturday. I hope I miss a 5-0 win but I doubt that very much.

maybe the problem was that we scored too early ;-)

Agree with that.
I think its time to bring some of the youngsters in (in their correct positions)) we surely can't be any worse
